Bug#433905: closed by martin f krafft [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Re: Bug#433905: initramfs-tools: Boot failure from software-RAID1 with debian on nslu2)

2007-07-21 Thread Toon Verstraelen
Please, take some time to read the bug report above more carefully.

I do know what the rootdelay is meant to do. The initramfs scripts
assume a default value of 180 seconds, so one does not have to pass it
explicitly at the kernel command line. That is clearly not the problem.

Bug#423289: Please rename 'splitter' in hsffig, or ask for package removal.

2007-07-21 Thread Charles Plessy
Dear QA team,

the emboss and hsffig package ship a '/usr/bin/splitter' program.
I am one of the maintainers of emboss. Hsffig was recently orphaned and
FTBFSes. For this reason, I am strongly reluctant to change the name of
splitter in emboss. However, since there is no maintainer for hsffig, I
think that policy 12.1 applies: 'splitter' has to be renamed in emboss and
hsffig, because no agreement can be reached.

I am willing to do this only if somebody actually uploads a similar
change in hsffig. I prepared a diff for NMU, which I posted in the
corresponding bug: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=427441

Note that because of anonther bug I can not test he patch: hsffig fails
to build from source.
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=393951

If nobody uploads a revised version of hsffig, emboss will be prevented
to migrate in testing. For this reason, if you decline taking care of
this bug, I would like to request the removal of hsffig. Would you
support my request ?

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=423289

Have a nice week-end,

I do have it installed, however, LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/debug gdb

I even tried to load them with the symbol command, with the same

You don't need to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to /usr/lib/debug.

Hmm, indeed.

Apart from that it should be enough... though I don't know what kind
of symbols are included in the libc debug package. Maybe you should
 ask to libc maintainers...

Hello guys! Any idea?

Hi,

I would like to update the m17n packages in Debian.

m17n and scim-m17n are very important for Sri Lanka because they provide
a flexible yet powerful input method infrastructure. m17n's input method
implementation of the national standard is the best of *any* operating
system. We've also been fortunate to be able to work closely with the
m17n developers.

Is it OK for me to update the Debian m17n packages?

Bug#434045: horde3: Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability

2007-07-21 Thread Steffen Joeris
Package: horde3
Severity: grave

Justification: user security hole

Hi mate

A possible security hole has been discovered in horde3.
The CVE[0] text says:

Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in framework/NLS/NLS.php
in Horde Framework before 3.1.4 RC1, when the login page contains
a language selection box, allows remote attackers to inject
arbitrary web script or HTML via the new_lang parameter to login.php.

It states that all the versions in Debian are effected. Feel
free to downgrade the bug, if I am mistaken.

Bug#434048: ltsp: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2007-07-21 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: ltsp
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Thursday, June 28, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for ltsp.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading ltsp with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, when I
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Tuesday, August 14, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or
changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around DAY25, I will contact you again and will send a final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Bug#434051: quagga: Changes of nexthops of static routes didnt take effect

2007-07-21 Thread Andreas Unterkircher
Package: quagga
Version: 0.99.5-5etch2
Severity: important

Hi,

We have several Linux routers which are using quagga to distribute
routes using OSPF(v4).

The central routers have some static routes - when I change the next
hope of one of them, the changes are not getting recognized by neither
zebra nor ospf (I guess at least the first one should notice them).

It looks like there was a fix in 0.99.6 which hasn't been yet
backported to the Debian stable version.

   * zebra_rib.c: (static_install_ipv{4,6}) Case where existing
RIB is updated must explicitely rib_addqueue the route_node,
to ensure the update actually takes effect.

http://cvs.quagga.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/quagga/zebra/zebra_rib.c

It's a bit annoying because currently we have to remove the route,
wait until the backbone area has unlearned it and then inject the
new route with the changed nexthop again. And this cause a down
time.

Cheers,
Andreas

Bug#434054: twinkle: does not play nicely with KDE system sounds

2007-07-21 Thread Marc Haber
Package: twinkle
Version: 1:1.0.1-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I have my KDE set up to emit system sounds and have chosen ALSA as
output device. However, for some reason, my KDE still uses arts for
output (artsd -F 10 -S 4096 -a alsa -d -s 60 -m artsmessage -c
drkonqi -l 3 -f).

When I start up twinkle (set up for ALSA), I get an error message that
the device Speaker could not be accessed.

Other audio apps work fine.

If I am doing something wrong, please advice. Otherwise, please
investigate how to make twinkle play more nicely.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#434053: twinkle: freezes after call termination

2007-07-21 Thread Marc Haber
Package: twinkle
Version: 1:1.0.1-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I get an incoming call. THe call is established, but I cannot hear the
caller and the caller cannot hear me. This _might_ be caused by my
broken home router which does not NAT correctly (the ISP claims that
VoIP is not supported on what they call Internet Access, and I
cannot exchange the router for something else).

However, when that call terminates, twinkle freezes. The Clock on
the right side of the Line 1 panel simply stops, the detail display
still says Call established, and twinkle does not react to anything.
I only can click on the Close Window button and tell kwin to
terminate the app.

Greetings
Marc

all since the German translation of twinkle is bad. English preferred.

This is not a bug. Your usage is wrong.

ChangeLogReader (and other readers) takes directories rather than files.
i.e. it is a fallback reader in case they are not version controlled.

In any event the exit code of '0' seems inappropriate.

Perhaps.

Bug#339876: [RFR] Restructuring of kernel selection in base-installer

2007-07-21 Thread Geert Stappers
Op 20-07-2007 om 08:19 schreef Frans Pop:

The old mechanism to set default kernels in templates-arch per kernel
major version has IMO become completely redundant. In practice it was no
longer being used at all and we have an excellent and much more flexible
kernel selection mechanism that replaced it. The defaults we still have
left (kernel-image and linux-image) are even invalid.
So basically I have just dropped these templates and renamed the template
we currently use for the actual selection, b-i/kernel/which-kernel, to
 base-installer/kernel/image.
If someone thinks the dropped templates would still be usefull, they could
still be added back in the new structure quite easily.

That reminds me of bug #339876,
which wishes to split kernel-install from base-install.

So the thing that worries me,
is will the above change embed kernel-installer deeper into base-installer?

Cheers
Geert Stappers

Bug#433531: offlineimaps produces doublicate mails

John, it sounds like my patch was a red herring. That makes sense to me
because I can't think of anything wrong with my beautiful change. (-;

Sven, is that what it seems to you, too? Maybe we can try looking at a
diff of the last 4.x to the first 5.x.

Bug#434056: Inputenc and XeTeX don't work together

2007-07-21 Thread Juliusz Chroboczek
Package: texlive-latex-base
Version: 2007-10

I'm assuming this is a problem with inputenc; if you think it's
a problem with XeTeX, please reassign this bug to texlive-xetex.

Specifying something like

  \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}

should do nothing when input to xelatex (XeTeX already uses UTF-8
input by default); apparently it does, because it breaks accented
characters.

I'm attaching a sample file, gzipped to avoid charset conversions by
your mailer. It works in pdflatex, fails in xelatex. Removing the
inputenc line from the input makes it work in xelatex.

Bug#430023: please add gnu-fdisk-udeb and gnu-cfdisk-udeb

2007-07-21 Thread Julien Louis
On Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 11:19:37PM +0200, Frans Pop wrote:
This issue will be further discussed during a Debian Installer team
meeting on Wednesday next week. You can expect some decision from the
team about whether the udebs can stay or not after that.

There is a new upstream release of gnu-fdisk which supports *BSD
disklabels, i have not tested yet (i'm planning to test it soon),
but i really think it could be useful for gnu/kfreebsd porters to
have a d-i based installer.

Even if they accepted, there will be some packaging changes needed,
therefore reopening this BR. We'll give you details of needed changes
after the decision, but basically they are:
 - gnu-cfdisk udeb should be dropped because of its dependency on
ncurses, which is not supported in D-I
 - D-I does not support Conflicts:; Robert suggested renaming the binary
to gnu-fdisk to avoid the conflicts

These issues will be fixed in my next upload.

Bug#339876: [RFR] Restructuring of kernel selection in base-installer

2007-07-21 Thread Geert Stappers
Op 20-07-2007 om 08:19 schreef Frans Pop:
This change also prepares the way to support preseeding.
Up till now users were basically unable to preseed which kernel to use.
This patch makes that possible in the most natural way: using the
base-installer/kernel/image template. Preseeding none - in case you
don't want to install a kernel - is supported too.

The 'base-installer/kernel/image=none' is good!

It reduces base-installer to installing base stuff.
It allows skipping kernel installs to disk in favor to installs in flash
memory. Installs on embedded hardware will benefit from it.

unresolved problems linking with the new debian cal3d and guichan
libraries. There may be other problems as well. If you wish to fix this
package, I recommend beginning from the latest upstream.

I cant reproduce this.

What compiler are you using g++-4.1 or g++4.2 ?
I cant see this problem with g++-4.1 in either sear 0.6.1 (currently in
unstable) nor with sear 0.6.3 (current release).

Unfortunately I cant build 0.6.3 either as it needs an older version of
guichan than available in the archive. I wait for a patch from upstream
for this.

Bug#339876: base-installer turbo charged

2007-07-21 Thread Geert Stappers

Currently, july 2007, base-installer is debootstrap, kernel-install and
some extras.

Having kernel-install spilt-off from base-installer
will make it more easy to tune the remaining base-installer.

Replacing the debootstrap part, which is the time costly part during
installation, with untarring a tarball, would be great time improvement.

Because of limitations in my hardware, I have a Modes section that is
 meant
to explicitly limit which video modes the i810/intel driver uses. The
driver detects, and would normally try to use, several video modes that my
hardware (a slightly dodgy HDTV) does not actually support. The older i810
driver would dutifully only use the modes I told it to, and so all was
 well.
The new intel driver apparently ignores my request to only use 1024x768,
800x600, and 640x480 modes. It probes working modelines for each of those,
but still decides to use the 1280x768, 1280x800, or 1152x768 modes,
depending on how I futz with horiz/vertical refersh rates.

Does it help if you:
* get a ModeLine for your desired resolution/refresh rate with something
like
gtf 1024 768 78
and add it to your xorg.conf Monitor section
* add a PreferredMode line to your Monitor section
Option PreferredMode 1024x768_78.00

I do know what the rootdelay is meant to do. The initramfs scripts
assume a default value of 180 seconds, so one does not have to pass it
explicitly at the kernel command line. That is clearly not the problem.

Have you even bothered to try it? The default value for rootdelay is
*not* 180. It waits for 180 seconds for the root filesystem if
rootdelay has not been specified. But udev also sleeps for
$rootdelay seconds *before* mdadm is called, so there will be plenty
time for the driver to create the usb-storage-SCSI devices.

Bug#433884: Should not depend on libopenH323, libpt, libSDL, libssl, libldap, ...

Which brings me again to ask: should the main asterisk package depend on
odbc, postgresql and such, or do we take some of those modules to
 subpackages as well?

The rational for splitting asteirsk-h323 was that the footprint for the
openh323 depenency libs was very large and the savings justified splitting
off another package.

The footprint for the dependency libs for odbs, postgresql and the like are a
lot more reasonable. But I would be willing to be convinced otherwise.

Faidon,

Why have you tagged this as serious?

While I agree that asterisk shouldn't depend on additional libs, which is why
we split off the asterisk-h323, it isn't actually a 'severe violation of
Debian policy'.

I would perhaps tag it as : minor
a problem which doesn't affect the package's usefulness, and is presumably
trivial to fix.

I certainly don't think this should block all the upstream security fixes.

2007-07-21 Thread Milan Zamazal
There are currently some issues with compatibility of .css files across
crm114 versions on 64-bit platforms. I try to resolve them with the
upstream maintainers. I'll package newer crm114 version after this is
done, in order not to force users on 64-bit platforms to rebuild their
.css files more than once. Thanks for patience.

I'm tempted to reopen this bug report.
Manually adding the rootdelay parameter is all very nice as a workaround
for this issue, but is it really an adequate solution?

How can we expect users to know that such an option is required?

How can we make sure in the installer that a first boot does not fail if a
user does a RAID install?
Adding rootdelay=x by default for all mdadm (and crypto, and lvm?)
installs does not seem like an attractive option.

There must surely be better ways to deal with this issue?

Bug#434006: cron-apt: MAILONMSGSDIR versus MAILMSGSDIR confusion

2007-07-21 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hi Bob

On Fri, Jul 20, 2007 at 05:54:47PM -0600, Bob Proulx wrote:
 Hi Ola,

You are perfectly correct. However I think maybe it is better
to change the variable name in the configuration file instead of the
code. That would make it backwards compatible.

  Or what do you think?

Hmm... Here is what went through my thinking. If this were widely
used I would have expected a bug report from them previously. So I am
not sure this will be a hardship for anyone. In fact I expect no one
or at least very few to notice.

The current configuration file fully documents the behavior that we
would get if we fixed this feature. So I think people would expect it
to match the configuration file. People who have read the feature
previously but not used it will have it working with the new script.

I always hate changing conffiles because upon upgrade it means a merge
needs to happen if a user has made customizations there. So I would
generally avoid changing the configuration file if there are other
options. If it is needed then fine but this seems gratuitous.

I think it is good to keep the name of the variable and the name of
the directory sync'd up. Currently the directory name is mailonmsgs
and the variable is MAILONMSGSDIR. A change to the configuration file
would have this variable out of sync with the directory name. That or
the directory name should change too. I think changing the directory
name is more trouble and not really worth it.

I tend to agree. If someone have found this out and not reported a bug
should not be supported. :) I'll apply your patch.

But your concern over people who might have read the script and
figured out this same issue but did not file a bug report could be
reported to them by checking for MAILMSGSDIR and SYSLOGMSGSDIR being
set and producing a warning in that case.

I attempted to create a new patch with this in place. I found it very
difficult to do so in a way that I did not feel to be too ugly to
share. But attached is my latest attempt at a more complete patch
with this in place. I believe it handles the problem if someone has
 already set the previous spelling.

I don't think it is worth it to try to handle it.

I agree now.

John Wright wrote:

I have a compaq nc6000 laptop, and the brightness buttons don't work if
I use x.org's ati driver. They do work with fglrx, and they used to
work with the free ati driver in sarge.

Assuming you upgraded from sarge to etch, it's actually hard to be sure
what is causing this problem. There are lots of components involved when
pressing such a special button, at least the kernel, X server are
involved too, all of them got a major upgrade between sarge and etch.
Upstream has some bugs like yours, for instance
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8362, without any reply
unfortunately.

Since it works with fglrx, I am going to keep the bug assigned to the
ati driver for now. Does it help if you upgrade to
xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.6.192 currently in experimental?

Bug#434067: libodbc-ruby1.8: Query execution generates random values in queries for SMALLINT values on MySQL

2007-07-21 Thread Enrico Zini
Package: libodbc-ruby1.8
Version: 0.9993-1
Severity: important

Hello,

thank you for maintaining libodbc-ruby1.8.

I wanted to deploy some code of mine on an etch system and it failed
miserably. I've managed to reliably reproduce the problem on my amd64
server with the following script:

#!/usr/bin/ruby

require 'odbc'
require 'csv'

$dsn = ARGV.shift
$uid = ARGV.shift
$pwd = ARGV.shift

@conn = ODBC.connect($dsn, $uid, $pwd)

begin
@conn.do(DROP TABLE test)
rescue
# Ignore errors on DROP TABLE
end
@conn.do(CREATE TABLE test ( id SMALLINT PRIMARY KEY );)

begin
newtest = @conn.proc(INSERT INTO test (id) VALUES (?)) { |stmt|
stmt.nrows }

newtest.call(1)
newtest.call(2)
newtest.call(3)

select = @conn.prepare(SELECT id FROM test)
select.execute.each { |row| puts row }
ensure
newtest.statement.drop
end

If I enable logging in MySQL, these are the queries that I get:

DROP TABLE test
CREATE TABLE test ( id SMALLINT PRIMARY KEY )
INSERT INTO test (id) VALUES ('7734156594425888769')
INSERT INTO test (id) VALUES ('2')
INSERT INTO test (id) VALUES ('651089476973494275')

Best regards,

Enrico

Bug#433877: acpi-support: powerbtn handler missing

2007-07-21 Thread Raphael Hertzog
Hello,

On Fri, 20 Jul 2007, Alexander wrote:
So i installed acpi-support and was happy until i find out that the handler

 BTW, if i do dpkg -S /etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh /etc/acpi/events/powerbtn the
system says not found for both. Do you need me to give you output of
anything to find out the essential difference between your system and mine?

$ dpkg -s acpid
Package: acpid
Status: install ok installed
Priority: optional
Section: admin
Installed-Size: 160
Maintainer: Cajus Pollmeier [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Architecture: i386
Version: 1.0.4-7.1
Depends: libc6 (= 2.3.6-6), lsb-base (= 3.0-10)
Conffiles:
 /etc/default/acpid 8a3a25ed8cb74697cc088150917f9ca2

 /etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh fa93fb2542919749e9b12dccc432900f obsolete

Ok. I still have them but only because I had a previous version of acpid
installed. They are marked 'obsolete' by dpkg.

However looking at the files, I'm not sure we really want them.
The script handles almost nothing:
- if powersaved is running, it doesn't do anything
- if KDE is running, it unlog people ?! (not sure here, this probably opens
a logout dialog where the user can choose to shutdown)
- otherwise it does a direct shutdown

At the very least, we should handle gnome-power-manager like powersaved.
I'd hate to see my machine reboot while I'm logged in Gnome. :-)

Cajus, did you have a plan while you decided to unilateraly remove those
files?

 Purged acpid and acpi-support.
Installed acpid. /etc/acpi* is not there.
Installed acpi-support. /etc/acpi/* is there, but still no handler for
 powerbtn event, nor the script.

Ok. It's normal. I hadn't noticed that my config files were obsolete.

Cheers,

Package: mg

GNU Coreutils supports the VERSION_CONTROL environment variable; GNU
Emacs supports the version-control variable. When these are set to
numbered, backups will be placed at

foo.~N~

instead of the default

foo~

Where foo is the original filename and N is a natural number. It
would be nice if mg similarly supported numbered backups.

Bug#434071: vde2: vdeq/vdeqemu uses uninitialised variable for socket mode

2007-07-21 Thread John Hughes
Package: vde2
Version: 2.1.6+r154-1+b1
Severity: normal

In vdeq.c we have:

 mode_t mode;
[...]
 if (argc  2  (
  (strcmp(argv[1],--mod)==0) ||
  (strcmp(argv[1],-m)==0))
){
sscanf(argv[2],%o,mode);
argv+=2;
argc-=2;
}
[...]
  for (i=0; inb_nics; i++) {
struct vde_open_args vdearg={ports[i],NULL,mode};
conn[i]=vde_open(sockname[i],vdeqemu,vdearg);

so if the user doesn't give the --mod or -m option vde_open gets called
with unitialised mode and so the socket gets chmoded to some
unpredictable mode, which will stop everything working of it happens not
to have write permission.

Fix is simple, initialise mode to zero on declaration.

Bug#434072: clamav-base: No support for tmpfs /var/run mount

2007-07-21 Thread Michel Lespinasse
Package: clamav-base
Version: 0.90.1-3etch3
Severity: important

In debian etch one can set RAMRUN=yes in /etc/default/rcS and get a
tmpfs mounted over /var/run. This works fine with most packages, but not
with clamav. On startup I get a message 'ERROR: Socket file
/var/run/clamav/clamd.ctl could not be bound: no such file or
directory'. When freshclam updates the signatures it also complains
about not being able to connect to clamav thru that socket file either.
Also freshclam complains about 'ERROR: Can't safe PID to file
/var/run/clamav/freshclam.pid: no such file or directory'.

I suggest the clamav-daemon and clamav-freshclam init scripts should
make sure to recreate the /var/run/clamav directory structure on startup
in order to work for setups that use the RAMRUN=yes setting in
/etc/default/rcS

Thanks,

 Dear Debian maintainer,

On Thursday, June 07, 2007, I sent you a notification about the beginning
of a review action on debconf templates for smstools.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
 updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their
 efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

 The attached tarball contains:

 - debian/changelog with the list of changes
 - debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
 - debian/templates with all the rewritten templates file(s)
 - debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting

There are no more apache, apache-ssl and apache-perl packages in unstable.

Another question related to this bug: do we really want to drop support
for web servers that are not in Debian any more? I didn't find any

Bug#434075: Memory corruption by pycurl

2007-07-21 Thread Erich Schubert
Package: python-pycurl
Version: 7.16.2.1-3+b1
Severity: normal

Hi,
I've written a small web spider which retrieves thousands of web sites
via libcurl, closely following the multicurl example.
After some time, the application segfaults (python2.4) or hangs
(python2.5) with the following error message:
*** glibc detected *** python2.5: free(): invalid pointer:
0x2b4c6c5093b8 ***
(yes, 64 bit pointer - this is on amd64)

It seems that this is due to some memory corruption by libcurl; running
it in valgrind shows invalid memory accesses, free() etc. there.

Unfortunately, it's not entirely reproduceable; it only occurs after
some time of data retrieval. So it only seems to cause the crash when
loading a certain sequence of web sites. :-(
I'll try later again with valgrind, maybe I can give you some helpful
traces. I'll also try again on a i386 machine, to see if it's somewhat
architecture dependant.

Bug#434074: Wakes up too often while sleeping

2007-07-21 Thread Enrico Zini
Package: offlineimap
Version: 4.0.16
Severity: normal

Hello,

Thank you for offlineimap!

I've finally managed to play with powertop and it turns out offlineimap
is one of the top causes of wakeups in my system:

Top causes for wakeups:
  52,6% (186,4) interrupt : extra timer interrupt
   7,3% ( 26,0) offlineimap : schedule_timeout (process_timeout)

offlineimap is sleeping during collection of those statistics. At first
I realised it was because of the blinkenlight interface needing to
update the countdowns. But then I switched the interface to
Noninteractive.Basic, and I still get the wakeups.

I guess the wait is not implemented with a big sleep but with many
1-second sleeps, which however could turn out to be a power hit.

Ciao,

Enrico

Bug#434079: dovecot lda sieve plugin works differently than described in configuration/dovecot website

2007-07-21 Thread Willem van Engen
Package: dovecot-common
Version: 1.0.rc15

The sieve plugin is included in the dovecot package, I'm relieved to see
that! I had a hard time though using it with the global sieve script
dir. The default configuration file and Dovecot's wiki
http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA/Sieve mention a parameter
'sieve_global_dir'. Looking in the source though, this parameter is
called 'global_script_path' and points to a file, not a directory.
I added a note on the above mentioned wiki page.

It seems that the parameter name was changed some time ago:
  http://hg.dovecot.org/dovecot-sieve-1.1/rev/fae7f0d39827
a new version of the plugin may be the best option, but the
configuration file should certainly mention the parameter that is used
by the package.

BTW, why the amd64 binary for SVGATextMode is missing from the archive?

That's a good question, but its not a bug in the package itself so far
as I am aware. Active development on this ceased long before there ever
was an amd64 arch, so I guess the buildd blacklist has just never been
updated, and you may well be the first to ever actually try it ;-)

I've recently built it from source on an etch amd64 system and it works
 just fine.

Cool. I don't see too many reasons why it should not, though I also
wouldn't be too surprised if some hardware specific code will need a
type tweak or two. Just for the record here, what video hardware are
you using?

(Unfortunately, I cannot set-up pbuilder environment at the moment
to check for the missing dependencies.)

That's ok, if you think this is a viable addition to the amd64 arch,
please report your success to the buildd maintainers with a request
to update the blacklist.

If that happens, I can check the build logs myself.

Cheers,
Ron

Hi Fred,

We had some reports about Xorg crashing related to playing video (for
instance bug #431655), they got fixed in xserver-xorg-core
2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-7. So first, please make sure you have this package at
least at this version (I only found 1.3.0 is your earlier mails, not the
whole Debian package version number, which matters here).

If it does not help, it would be good to get a better backtrace than the
one at the end of the Xorg.0.log.old. To do so, you should first install
xserver-xorg-core-dbg, then log in from another machine through ssh and
attach a gdb with
gdb -p $(pidof X)
Once you reproduce the crash, enter 'bt full' in gdb and send us the
whole output.

Also, you should send the whole output of
/usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 31 so that we see your whole config
(it will also include the current Xorg.0.log once again, but we won't
use it since we already have the one of the crash).

Thanks,
Brice

The user.

I advocate doing what is done in Fedora, you get a boot prompt from the CD and
then you can type memtest and press ENTER if you want to test the memory.
Otherwise you have the regular options.

I'm not aware of memtest taking any parameters, you just boot it and it can
then take a minor amount of configuration at run-time.

I recommend that you try out a Fedora install, this is not the only idea that
is worth copying.

Bug#358818: status?

2007-07-21 Thread Guido Guenther
Hi Peter,

what's the status of this bug? I had to compile the ubuntu package for
my etch system to work. It's a shame that this fix didn't make it into
etch, but if you uploaded a fix soon then at least we could do
backports, and maybe even bribe one of the SRMS...
I didn't get around to do this yet - any help on this would certainly be
appreciated. So if somebody would extract the patch from ubuntu, test it
on the Debian package and attach it to the BTS this would certainly
speed up things.
Cheers,

Bug#434034: debian-installer: need an option of memtest86+ on the install CD

2007-07-21 Thread Frans Pop
On Saturday 21 July 2007 13:29, Russell Coker wrote:
I advocate doing what is done in Fedora, you get a boot prompt from the
CD and then you can type memtest and press ENTER if you want to test
 the memory.

OK. I'm aware of how to run memtest. It was not clear from your report if
you maybe had something more elaborate in mind, like some basic test
that could be performed by default.
The trick of course will be how to get users to actually use the option...

Note that we only very rarely see installation issues caused by faulty
memory, but it is small and useful enough that it doesn't really hurt to
include it either.

This makes it more a debian-cd wishlist than a debian-installer wishlist,
although the isolinux config file and help screens are generated by D-I.
Not sure how best to implement this. I guess we could just assume that
memtest will be available for inclusion by debian-cd.

P.S. After watching your presentation at LCA, I added supporting Xen
installations as a possible goal for lenny [1], but we would need someone
to actively work on that. Especially to work out the concept:
- how/where would the user get to select that he wants a Xen server
- what needs to be adapted
- what additional functionality is needed
- what extra/specific packages are needed on the installed system
- ...
If you want to develop that idea further, please join the d-boot list.

P.P.S. You seem to be blocking direct mails from me. Would it be possible
to whilelist this address?
