Hi,

(15:01:00) Found a file exceeding max file size.

I using rtorrent to distribute a 100G file locally. Unfortunately the sid
version limits the maximum file size to 64G in src/torrent/data/file_list.cc.
I don't think there should be a limit or at least raise it a magnitude.

Hi Jari,

Is there any reason why this should be limited?

Regards,
Jose Luis.

The max_file_size option allows you to change the limit.

Bug#454917: splashy: timeout during startup

2007-12-08 Thread Cyril Jaquier
Package: splashy
Version: 0.3.5
Severity: normal

Hi all,

I'm a new Debian user and this is my first bug report and use of
reportbug. So please, forgive me if I did something wrong ;)

Every time I boot, splashy hangs up after a few second (the progress bar
shows maybe 5 or 10%).

1/ If I do nothing, after 2 minutes the screen switches back to text
mode and I can see:

Splashy ERROR: Timeout (120 sec) occurred while waiting for a message on
the Splashy socket

Then, switching to the second virtual terminal and typing a few random
keys make the boot process continue. However, splashy does not work
anymore (e.g. no splash screen during shutdown).

2/ If I press a single (random) key before the timeout occurs, then the
boot process continue. And then splashy does work as expected.

Bug#454918: Can't open a deb package with xarchiver through iceweasel

2007-12-08 Thread giggz
Package: xarchiver
Version: 0.4.6-6
Severity: normal

Hi,

Under iceweasel/firefox I want to open a deb package directly : I go
on ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/pool/ and I choose one of
them. Iceweasel ask me what I want to do, I choose 'open the file with
xarchiver'. Then xarchiver fails with an error. I ask it the 'command
line output'. it says :
cp: `/tmp/alsa-firmware-loaders_1.0.13-1_hppa.deb' et
`/tmp/alsa-firmware-loaders_1.0.13-1_hppa.deb' identifient le même fichier.
in english the two files are the same.

So when I click on open with xarchiver iceweasel downloads the deb
under /tmp/ and xarchiver tries to open it but create the same file,
or something like that, isn't it ?
This doesn't occur with tar archives.

Regards,
Guillaume

Your package fails to build with GCC 4.3. Version 4.3 has not been
released yet but I'm building with a snapshot in order to find errors
and give people an advance warning. In GCC 4.3, the C++ header
dependencies have been cleaned up. The advantage of this is that
programs will compile faster. The downside is that you actually
need to directly #include everything you use (but you really should
do this anyway, otherwise your program won't work with any compiler
other than GCC). There's some more information about this at
 http://www.cyrius.com/journal/2007/05/10#gcc-4.3-include

You can reproduce this problem with gcc-snapshot from unstable. Note
that Red Hat, Novell and Ubuntu have done some work getting packages
to build with GCC 4.3 so there might be patches floating around
somewhere. I suggest you talk to your upstream.

Bug#389887: closed by Paul Cager [EMAIL PROTECTED] (OK to close libgetopt-java Debian bug report?)

2007-12-08 Thread Alfredo Pironti

Hi Paul,
as long as java-getopt is not updated/fixed, I'm still experiencing the
same bug I've reported some time ago.

Moreover, I had the opportunity to try java-getopt on windows, and this
bug shows up there too.

Maybe simply unpacking and repackaging the whole library may help (I
still didn't try, shame on me). I also contacted the author directly,
but this didn't help either.

However, if I am the only one having this issue (except for another guy
on fedora forums, as I reported a while ago), and java-getopt is widely
used, then it's probably my fault, and this bug can be considered as closed.

Please note that I'm having this issue with the up-to-date 1.0.13
version too.

Cheers,
Alfredo

Bug#452807: Solved ?

2007-12-08 Thread Hans-J. Ullrich
Hello !

I think, this bug can be closed.

I deleted the entry in /etc/ld.conf.d/*.conf pointing to the chroot:

/var/chroot/sid-ia32/usr
/var/chroot/sid-ia32/usr/lib

and started ldconf.

Now everything is working fine.

I suppose the 32-bit-libs are interfering somehow

Think, the bug can be closed.

Thanks for help,

regards

Hans

this can be fixed by including these lines in the start-up script:

i have iceape installed. if iceweasel is installed, the export line

Bug#319377: New review

2007-12-08 Thread Otavio Salvador
Hello Sami,

I'd like to ask you to try to reproduce your speedup tests using
lastest sid code and see if you could check again where we might need
those speedups.

I want to push those changes on APT and then it would be really nice
if you could help us on it.

Thanks in advance,

Hello Andreas,

I'm doing a look on old APT bugs and found this done. I didn't
understand what's your idea with the patch and then I'd like to ask
few things:

 - do you still want this feature in?
 - could you please describe it more?
 - could you refresh the patch against lastest sid package?

Thanks in advance,

Bug#453728: #453728: pysycache: the first game crashs

2007-12-08 Thread L. Redrejo
The problem is that the themes-move directory was empty without any
theme in version 3.0.1 of pysychache. I'm working with version 3.1b that
has fixed it and hope to upload it to Debian in less than a week.

In the meantime, if you need it fixed before, download
http://download.tuxfamily.org/py4childs/pysycache/v3.1/pysycache-src-3.1b.zip
and copy the contents of the pysycache-src/pysycache/themes-move directory to
/usr/share/games/pysycache/themes-move in your computer and it will work.

Thanks for your reports.

Bug#454921: kpowersave: Suspend To Disk process starts when HAL daemon restarts

2007-12-08 Thread Christophe Dongieux
Package: kpowersave
Version: 0.7.3-1

Hello,

When I made an upgrade of my Debian yesterday, with Kpowersace launched, HAL
was upgraded.
The s2disk process was called when the daemon was restarted during the
configuration process of the
hal package.
I could abort it without any problem.
I tried to reproduce this bug manually with success : a simple /etc/init.d/hal
restart causes the

Bug#351056: FIX for #351056, apt always reinstalling packages because identical versions are not merged in the cache

2007-12-08 Thread Magnus Holmgren
On lördagen den 8 december 2007, you stated the following:
FYI, I am seeing this problem as well, but this patch, while it
applies cleanly, does not resolve it for me. I've tried after apt-get
clean and after removing the /var/cache/apt/*.bin files, and I've
tried applying only the first patch hunk, with no success.

I, too, still see similar symptoms, but I believe the cause to be different.
My patch fixes the code that groups identical package versions together;
without patching, it sometimes fails to do that, i.e. it fails to see that a
version of higher priority is in fact identical to the installed version. By
patching apt-cache.cc so that apt-cache policy prints the hash value of each
version group I can see that pkgCacheGenerator::MergeList() works correctly.
Perhaps the hash calculation is broken?

Bug#454190: I didn't success with either way. Reopening.

2007-12-08 Thread Raúl Sánchez Siles
  Hello:

I'm sorry to say that neither of the proposed approaches worked. First I tried
specifying ftp.debian.org/debian/ as the mirror directory instead of just
debian/, but d-i failed and apt-cache error.log told me:
Sat Dec 8 12:30:23 2007|127.0.0.1|--- /usr/sbin/apt-cacher: Usage error

After this I set path_map to:
path_map debian ftp.debian.org/debian/
restarted apt-cache and d-i failed again to get the packages, but this time I
hadn't any message on either access.log or error.log. On the d-i I reset to
debian/ as the mirror dir.

The only thing I can think of is that the mirror I'm getting the files from
(the one in /etc/apt/sources.list) is not ftp.debian.org but
ftp.de.debian.org.

What do you think about this?

Thanks and sorry for the nuissances.

Bug#454923: compiz-gnome: Needs GNOME configuration dialog

2007-12-08 Thread Manuel Bilderbeek
Package: compiz-gnome
Version: 0.5.2-2

It would be useful to have a configuration dialog to configure compiz in
the GNOME menu somewhere. I've seen this in Fedora (from Core 6) and in
Ubuntu. At least a way to start it (Enable desktop effects). (Isn't it
possible to incorporate at least the Ubuntu stuff for this?)

Configuring would be even better: set up the plugins (without having to
run gconf manually...) and do the settings for them.

 give crackling while

 gst-launch-0.10 audiotestsrc volume=3D1.0 !=20
 audio/x-raw-int,width=3D16,depth=3D16 ! alsasink

 does not?

The first one clearly gives me crackling, the second one does not.

Another thing that would be nice to try would be:

try with one of the pipelines above the have crackling to
set the buffer-time and latency-time properties of alsasink.

You can do so by writing instead of alsasink
 alsasink buffer-time=3D20 latency-time=3D1

Try using higher values than these and please report if this makes
 any difference.

No difference.

Also please try if using alsasink device=3Dhw:0

This does not work:

Bug#451216: /usr/bin/trackerd: Here is causes OOM

2007-12-08 Thread Xavier Bestel
Package: tracker
Version: 0.6.3-3+b1
Followup-For: Bug #451216

Hi,

I have a system with 2Gb RAM (+ 1Gb swap), and today trackerd took
everything (last time I could see it was at 1.6Gb) and finally the OOM
killer started to kill everyone around (gnome-session, epiphany, you
name it). Of course, I couldn't do anything before that because the
machine was in a swap storm.

So, please, could trackerd limit itself to a reasonable amount of RAM ?

Thanks,

Xav

Bug#454847: FTBFS with GCC 4.3: missing #includes

2007-12-08 Thread Reinhard Tartler

Hi Johannes,

Martin Michlmayr [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 Package: pong2
 Version: 0.1.1-1
 Usertags: ftbfs-gcc-4.3

Your package fails to build with GCC 4.3. Version 4.3 has not been
released yet but I'm building with a snapshot in order to find errors
and give people an advance warning. In GCC 4.3, the C++ header
dependencies have been cleaned up. The advantage of this is that
programs will compile faster. The downside is that you actually
need to directly #include everything you use (but you really should
do this anyway, otherwise your program won't work with any compiler
other than GCC). There's some more information about this at
 http://www.cyrius.com/journal/2007/05/10#gcc-4.3-include

You can reproduce this problem with gcc-snapshot from unstable. Note
that Red Hat, Novell and Ubuntu have done some work getting packages
to build with GCC 4.3 so there might be patches floating around
somewhere. I suggest you talk to your upstream.

Bug#406200: gajim: Autoreconnect when connection is lost option not (fully) functional

2007-12-08 Thread Yann Leboulanger
Cyril Brulebois wrote:
 Package: gajim
 Version: 0.11-1
 Severity: normal

 Hi,

here's the situation: I've got 2 accounts set up to be connected and
reconnected automatically (I'm using network-manager), and 2 accounts
that are disabled (sort of backup account, and a test account on a local
 server):
  * Connect on Gajim startup: disabled
  * Autoreconnect when connection is lost: disabled

The first option seems to work fine: no connection is established (for
the 2 ``disabled accounts'') during the startup. The second seems to not
work, since when the connection is lost and then comes back (wireless
 connection...), all accounts get reconnected.

It could be related to the following option:
  * Synchronize account status with global status: enabled

which was enabled by default. Once disabled, the intended behaviour is
OK, but according to the documentation shown in the popup, it is
suggested that its effect is only related to a choice in the dropdown
status list, that's why I think my bugreport is still valid, and at
 least some clarification is needed.

 Cheers,

I've just tested with gajim-0.11.3 and it seems to work properly. Could
you test and confirm please?

Bug#454915: gnome-panel: Can't use the clock applet anymore

2007-12-08 Thread Mike Hommey
Package: gnome-panel
Version: 2.20.2-2

After a recent upgrade, when I logged out of my session and came back, I
got a dialog telling me OAFIID:GNOME_ClockApplet couldn't be loaded, and
asked me whether I wanted it deleted or not. The same message appears
when trying to add the clock applet in the panel.

I get the following in .xsession-errors:

Bug#452167: xserver-xorg-core: xserver crashes briefly after startup of window manager

2007-12-08 Thread Julien Cristau

 the xserver using the SysReqKey.

Downgrading to 2:1.4-3 makes these problems go away.

What I've tried to fix this problem (unsuccessfully):

 - disable DRI in xorg.conf by putting 'Option NoDRI' (This does not
seem to work, xorg.log still showed that libdri.so was loaded.
xorg.conf(5) unfortunately does not tell how to disable DRI.)
 - rename libdri.so to s.th. else so that libdri.so is not loaded

After some crashes, the following lines appeared repeatedly at the end
 of Xorg.0.log:

tossed event which came in late
  mieqEnequeue: out-of-order valuator event; dropping.

These lines mean that the server is stuck, but the SIGIO signal handler
is still getting run.

Which window manager are you using? Can you try to see where the X
server is hanging using gdb (from another machine)?

Thanks,
Julien

Bug#380825: gnue-common: Patch to add missing file encoding (needed by python 2.5)

Hello,

I've applied the changes from the proposed NMU to the Ubuntu package of
gnue-common. I needed also a small patch to setupext/install_data.py to
make python 2.5 happy (it complained about non-ascii chars inside the
file). I applied the patch inline as otherwise the patch gets de-applied
before this file is used in the clean target.

2007-12-08 Thread vesse
Package: kdebase

After doing dist-upgrade yesterday KDE failed to start. When splash screen
showed that it is loading the desktop, screen went black and returned to
the login prompt (can't remeber if X restarted).

After file-by-file copying of my original ~/.kde I found out that using a
fresh ~/.kde/share/config/kcminputrc fixed the problem. I haven't manually
edited the file ever, so I would have expected it to work after
dist-upgrade.

Bug#454677: selectable ionice values

2007-12-08 Thread James Youngman
Might I suggest you also add a comment like this into locate-cron.daily?

Using IONICE_CLASS is a trade-off between locate database consistency
and friendliness to other processes. The nicer we are, the less impact
we have on system performance when updating the database, because we
generally spread our usage out more. Spreading the usage out a bit more
means that updating the database takes longer and the result is a slightly less
consistent view of the filesystem. Since it is not possible to get a perfectly
consistent view anyway, using IONICE_CLASS=3 is normally reasonable.

Package: opencubicplayer
Version: 1:0.1.14-1

Hi!

I have been analyzing packages for the piuparts test, and have
observed that opencubicplayer fails the piuparts because it doesn't purge
some files.

The gzipped log of the piuparts run for opencubicplayer is
attached. The problem is that the process

Install Etch opencubicplayer - upgrade to sid - purge

seems to let the following files remain unremoved:

   /etc/ocp.ini owned by: opencubicplayer

Please consider fixing this bug, as it is a Lenny release
recommendation [1].

Thanks.

Manuel Bilderbeek wrote:
 Package: compiz-gnome

It would be useful to have a configuration dialog to configure compiz in
the GNOME menu somewhere. I've seen this in Fedora (from Core 6) and in
Ubuntu. At least a way to start it (Enable desktop effects). (Isn't it
possible to incorporate at least the Ubuntu stuff for this?)

Configuring would be even better: set up the plugins (without having to
run gconf manually...) and do the settings for them.

compizconfig-settings-manager will probably help here.
The package is currently waiting in NEW.

I hereby request removal of doc-linux-nl as per the discussion above. To
summarize:

- The documentation is very outdated, thus incomplete or even wrong.
- There has been no upstream development for these documents in
  years.
- No one has been found to pick up development on this.
- Modern users have enough alternatives to gather information like this
through a web search finding howtos, web forums and mailinglist posts.

2007-12-08 Thread Bas Zoetekouw
Package: git-gui
Version: 1:1.5.3.7-1
Severity: normal

When starting git-gui for the first time, it warns that /usr/bin/git
claims it is verstion 'debian.1.5.3.7.1-dirty'. gui-gui requires at
least Git 1.5.0 or later and then asks if it should assume that the
version is correct.

I propose that this check is removed from git-gui in the debian
package (as the dependencies should already make sure that the correct
version of git is installed), or that the check is at least adjusted
to detect the Debian package of git.

Hi,

I just installed empathy-haze and entered my msn account details, it
looks like it works. But then I tried changing my icon, using Empathy's
personal informations menu (name translated from French). I choose an
icon (png file) using the file selector, and when clicking ok Empathy
crashes.
Sorry, I have no useful backtrace.

Just follow these steps:

1. Open any of those programs and keep it at top as an active window
2.- Write down something
3.- Copy to the X buffer by highlighting it

4-. Switch out of X to a TTY console
5.- Switch back to X

Bug#418445: [Pkg-sysvinit-devel] Bug#418445: Bug#418445: initscripts: please mount debugfs on boot

2007-12-08 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Bas Zoetekouw]
That should be no problem at all. I just thought it would fit there
best. Afaik there is nothing in the rest of the init sequence that
depends on it and would require it to be mounted early on in the
 boot sequence.

If there is nothing requiring it to be part of the initscripts
package, I would recommend it being done by another package, closer to
the debugfs support. The reason is to reduce the complexity of
initscripts, and keep the changes needed for debugs close to the
packages using it.

Are there packages in debian using debugfs? I would recommend adding
an init.d script to one of those packages instead of adding it to
initscripts.

Or, is it enough for the users of debugfs to add an entry to
/etc/fstab?

If you have a suggestion for a package, please reassign this bug
there.

Happy hacking,

Bug#454929: seahorse-agent leaves a lot of directories in .gnome2

2007-12-08 Thread Olivier Berger
Package: seahorse
Version: 0.9.10-2
Severity: normal

See same problem on Ubuntu bug tracker describing all the directories left
behind in .gnome2 as seahorse-*-like name.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/seahorse/+bug/31336

Seems to have been fixed upstream :
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=336491, but that 0-8 version
changelog doesn't seem to appear in Debian package...

Dunno if some merge didn't happen somewhere... Maybe the problem is fixed in
subsequent releases ?

Hope this helps.

 Hi!

I have been analyzing packages for the piuparts test, and have
observed that ~700 packages fail the piuparts because xbase-clients
doesn't purge all the files it installs.

The gzipped log of the piuparts run for xbase-clients is
attached. The problem is that the process

Install Stable xbase-clients - upgrade to sid - purge

 lets /etc/X11/app-defaults/* remain
unremoved. In particular, the files in question which are not removed
 seemed to be:

   /etc/X11/app-defaults/Beforelight
   /etc/X11/app-defaults/Bitmap
   /etc/X11/app-defaults/Bitmap-color
   /etc/X11/app-defaults/Bitmap-nocase
   /etc/X11/app-defaults/Xgc

For the record, these files are related to some programs that were in
xbase-clients
but have been dropped when splitting xbase-clients into x11-apps,
x11-utils, ...

To fix the problem, either switch to pt_BR.UTF-8 or generate pt_BR locales.

Bug#454546: Cause of problem, possible patch

2007-12-08 Thread Brice Goglin
Pigeon wrote:
Looking at the source code for xserver-xorg-input-mouse it seems that this

 packet from the mouse.

   case 0x00:  break;
   case 0x01: dz =  1; break;

   pMse-negativeW = pMse-positiveW =
 MSE_NOAXISMAP;

 }

So, if it receives any z-axis data that it does not understand, it does not
simply ignore it, it immediately and for no reason nukes the secondary wheel,
and moreover does this in such a way that it also destroys any wheel
 remapping,
with the result that it also destroys my vertical wheel. This is very rude.

So I am currently testing the following patch, which simply reports and then
ignores the spurious packet, instead of making my mouse unusable.

I will report your problem upstream. Does both wheels work very fine
with your patch?
(apart from some unrecognized packet warnings in the Xorg log)

The bug report seems correct to me and the patch can be applied. Of
course, there is a very small chance that it breaks some external or

Bug#454941: lintian: False positive doc-base-abstract-field-separator-extra-whitespaces

2007-12-08 Thread Andreas Hoenen
Package: lintian
Version: 1.23.39
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Running lintian on the attached doc-base file (when preparing dblatex release
0.2.8-1) results in the warning:

W: dblatex: doc-base-abstract-field-separator-extra-whitespaces dblatex:5

To my best knowledge the doc-base file is correct, which is confirmed by
'install-docs --check'.

A workaround is to swap the Abstract and the Section fields.

Bug#448319: vobcopy: CVE-2007-5718 insecure temporary file handling

2007-12-08 Thread Nico Golde
Hi Steffen,
* Steffen Joeris [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007-12-07 19:29]:
 Any update on this?

Nope. I had not yet the time to look into a prospective
patch. A quick look at the source revealed that the code is
pretty bad and it would be some work to integrate this in a
clean way. I contacted the upstream author a while ago and
it seemed like he fails to see that this is a security bug,
so I guess we have to really write a patch on our own.
Kind regards
Nico

Bug#454943: aspell-bg -- Doesn't purge all files after piuparts Install+Upgrade+Purge test

2007-12-08 Thread Kumar Appaiah
Package: aspell-bg
Version: 3.0-8
Severity: important
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: piuparts-stable-upgrade piuparts-stable-upgrade-20071130

Hi!

I have been analyzing packages for the piuparts test, and have
observed that aspell-bg fails the piuparts because it doesn't purge
some files.

The gzipped log of the piuparts run for aspell-bg is
attached. The problem is that the process

Install Etch aspell-bg - upgrade to sid - purge

seems to let the following files remain unremoved:

   /usr/lib/aspell/bg.multi not owned
   /var/lib/aspell/bg-en.rws not owned

Please consider fixing this bug, as it is a Lenny release
recommendation [1].

Thanks.

Bug#418445: [Pkg-sysvinit-devel] Bug#418445: Bug#418445: initscripts: please mount debugfs on boot

2007-12-08 Thread Bas Zoetekouw
Hi Petter!

You wrote:

 [Bas Zoetekouw]
That should be no problem at all. I just thought it would fit there
best. Afaik there is nothing in the rest of the init sequence that
depends on it and would require it to be mounted early on in the
  boot sequence.

If there is nothing requiring it to be part of the initscripts
package, I would recommend it being done by another package, closer to
the debugfs support. The reason is to reduce the complexity of
initscripts, and keep the changes needed for debugs close to the
 packages using it.

I guess I could put an initscript in blktrace, which is atm (afaik) the
only program using it.

I'm not sure I really like that solution though, as debugfs is a generic
kernel feature and not specific to blktrace afaik. As the kernel
developers put it: In principle, it is the same as /proc, just with the
explicit information that binary compatibility will never be a goal
[1]. So I would find it most natural to do the mounting alongside with
mounting /sys and /proc.

Bas.

Bug#454760: e2fsprogs: CVE-2007-5497 multiple integer overflows

2007-12-08 Thread Nico Golde
Hi Theodore,
I fixed this issue in testing-security. The patch I attached
first and the one used in the stable DSA is incomplete in my
opinion. Attached is a complete fix for this used in the
testing-security upload.

Bug#454932: kernel-package: Please support DEBEMAIL, DEBFULLNAME, DEBNAME

2007-12-08 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: kernel-package
Version: 11.001
Severity: wishlist

Many package-related programs in Debian check $DEBEMAIL, $DEBFULLNAME,
$DEBNAME, and GECOS to determine the maintainer name and email to use.
However, make-kpkg requires me to set values in /etc/kernel-pkg.conf
explicitly. I'd find it very helpful if make-kpkg could check these
environment variables and GECOS to determine the maintainer name and
email. For compatibility with previous versions of make-kpkg, perhaps
the default /etc/kernel-pkg.conf could leave the maintainer and email
unset, and make-kpkg could check the environment variables and name
when it does not obtain a value from /etc/kernel-pkg.conf?
