Bug#555857: qemubuilder does not emulate scsi

2009-11-12 Thread Ritesh Raj Sarraf
Package: qemubuilder
Version: 0.58
Severity: normal

qemu support emulating scsi as the device.
qemubuilder's doc says that scsi can be emulated by using the following
settings:
ARCH_DISKDEVICE=sd

When settings the above, I get the following:

The log does understand the sd setting and sets the root=/dev/sda
parameter. But it doesn't do the same for qemu command-line.

To emulate scsi, as per the qemu doc, the following is required:
 qemu -drive file=file,if=scsi,bus=0,unit=6

Qemu also seems to be supporting virtio. Adding support for that too
 would be good.

The current IDE emulation is very resource hungry and keeps hitting
 resets.

I guess it doesn't work either, because I think that you forgot
to enable the plugin with vim-addons install, as described in
README.Debian. Just noticed that README.Debian has a bug (ADDON is not
substituted by vimoutliner) but this shouldn't stop from doing this ;)

 :help vo

After that :help vo works for me.

The latter, I think. It adds in support for Xen DomU, and

Maybe... but how to do?

dpkg -i linux-xenu-2.6.31_custom.1.0_amd64.deb

Something has to be fixed so that a user following the standard instructions

No traces of panic in logs, only flashplayer and french translation of

Can you try with the MOZILLA_DISABLE_PLUGINS environment variable set to 1 ?

 @included from it.

Well, I'd say this is a bug...

Fair enough. I doubt it will be fixed though, I think getting automatic
reloading is not worth the effort (particularly because the original
problem described #397609 is so hard to reproduce.)

So having to kill speedy_backends is now expected behaviour and not a bug.
 I'll update the init.d message and README.Debian.

In fact, /etc/init.d/smokeping could do it itself. Here is what I do to
 reload the smokeping configuration:

 /etc/init.d/smokeping reload killall speedy_backend

Yeah, combined with some more checks for just those speedy_backends
related to smokeping would make this an adequate solution.

I'm reopening this bug to track this.

Thanks for caring,

Bug#555860: please allow building of a DKMS module via module-assistant

2009-11-12 Thread Marc Haber

Version: 0.11.1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

out-of-tree-modules are migrating to a new byzantine format called
DKMS. DKMS-supporting-modules cannot be built with module-assistant
any more which breaks existing setups.

Please consider modifying module-assistant so that it recognizes both
old-style module source packages and DKMS-style module source packages
and allows building both kinds in a unified way. This would be really
great.

Greetings

Bug#555885: use debhelper 7 properly

2009-11-12 Thread Jan Hauke Rahm
Package: autoconf
Version: 2.64-5
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hi!

I just noticed you bumped the debhelper compatibility level to 7. But
you still build-depend only on dh = 4 which is wrong. Now, while this
is not really an issue since lenny even has dh7, your not checking the
actual compatibility is. I at least spotted 'dh_clean -k' which is
deprecated; use dh_prep instead.

Please don't just bump variables to make lintian happy but actually
check if your package is compatible.

Lintian even tells you that:

W: autoconf source: dh-clean-k-is-deprecated
W: autoconf source: package-lacks-versioned-build-depends-on-debhelper 7

Bug#555886: [binutils-gold] Support more options available by current GNU ld

2009-11-12 Thread Peter Fritzsche
Package: binutils-gold
Version: 2.20-3
Severity: wishlist

During my rebuild some packages failed because of missing options for the
linker. Maybe it is possible to add the features and options to support
compilation of most packages in debian:

/usr/bin/ld: --allow-multiple-definition: unknown option
/usr/bin/ld: muldefs: unknown -z option
/usr/bin/ld: -assert: unknown option
/usr/bin/ld: -combreloc: unknown -z option
/usr/bin/ld: --cref: unknown option
/usr/bin/ld: def: unknown -z option
/usr/bin/ld: -fPIE: unknown option
/usr/bin/ld: --no-undefined-version: unknown option
/usr/bin/ld: relro: unknown -z option
/usr/bin/ld: --sort-common: unknown option
/usr/bin/ld: -warn-common: unknown option
/usr/bin/ld: --discard-all: unknown option
/usr/bin/ld: -x: unknown option

This is the default behavior, so it can implemented by just recognizing it by
the option parser:

So this would mean that it will break some setups.

You're right, but the solution could be ask the user, during postinstall
package configuration, to set SSL3_FLAGS_ALLOW_UNSAFE_LEGACY_RENEGOTIATION
(and set it by default) explaining briefly the vulnerability. This
wouldn't break anything existing but give the posibility to protect

This issue is important but is not include into sshguard package debian

Once you noticed the problem with /local/ and put the line

I think this is something to address at the bpo level. You could
require bpo builds to use the latest version of packages in a partial
repository of bpo which would contain the latest debhelper,
 python-support etc.

Fix is simple: Tighten build-dependency like this:

Have you tried to change the record-sample-bitrate and/or -frequency in

Bug#554780: evince: FTBFS with too old gtk-doc-tools

2009-11-12 Thread Loïc Minier
severity 554780 normal
stop

Hi

I'm downgrading the severity because it doesn't either affect evince in
unstable/testing (built against the latest version of packages in
unstable/testing) nor the one in stable.

On Fri, Nov 06, 2009, Jonas Smedegaard wrote:
When compiling on a system with gtk-doc-tools 1.10-1 (which satisfies

 log.

 Fix is simple: Tighten build-dependency to gtk-doc-tools (= 1.11).

Most probably related to the following, found in NEWS file of 1.11:

  o 543855 : Fix for Bug 460753 (enable vpath build in gtkdoc-mkhtml) ...

Hmm gtk-doc is a pain to debug; the change you mention added a grep on
the gtkdoc-mkhtml --help output to see if it supports --path; the test
 is absolutely hideous:
- cd $(srcdir)/html gtkdoc-mkhtml --path=$(srcdir) $(DOC_MODULE)
../$(DOC_MAIN_SGML_FILE) $(MKHTML_OPTIONS)
+ mkhtml_options=; \
+ gtkdoc-mkhtml 21 --help | grep /dev/null \-\-path; \
+ if test $(?) = 0; then \
+ mkhtml_options=--path=$(srcdir); \
+ fi
+ cd $(srcdir)/html gtkdoc-mkhtml $(mkhtml_options) $(MKHTML_OPTIONS)
$(DOC_MODULE) ../$(DOC_MAIN_SGML_FILE)

but I an not sure how it would cause this output:

 Usage: gtkdoc-mkhtml MODULE DRIVER_FILE

NB: the missing ; after fi was fixed subsequently.

I think it would be important to identify exactly which bits of gtk-doc
cause the output of gtkdocize to rely on new gtk-doc at build-time and
fix that in gtk-doc upstream and in stable or some bpo baseline repo.
I can't identify them looking merely at the source right now.

Cheers

Well, you asked for it, don't do that. As indicated by --force-help,
usage of those specific options you used there “can seriously damage
your installation” which is what happened.
Dpkg ignored the request to install new perl-modules. Silently. Why? I didn't
read 'seriously damage your installation' as 'ignore some command-line
requests'.

To try to get out of the situation dpkg tries to remove a package,
because you added --force-depends then it ignored any problem and
considered it an ok solution. The --force-conflicts gets considered
 later on.

Check what apt is doing. Cupt should not use force options on
--unpack, --install, --configure or --triggers-only. Ideally no
front-end would need to use force options, but using --force-depends
on --purge and --remove seems kind of reasonable for now I guess.
Again, this has nothing to do with any high-level package manager.

Bug#555889: Null password also disallows key-based logins.

2009-11-12 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: dropbear
Version: 0.52-4
Severity: minor

Root has the null password so that people with physical access to a
securetty can log in easily, and remote logins are forced to be
key-based. This works with openssh-server, but with dropbear I get:

[2350] Nov 12 21:48:03 user 'root' has blank password, rejected

Even though I'm not trying to log in with the password method, and
indeed dropbear was started with -s.

It seems to me that dropbear should allow key-based authentication
even if the user has a null password -- at the very least this should
be the case if -s is used.

 Hello.

This is because your perl 5.10.1-8 package both Replaces and Conflicts
with the installed version of perl-modules. In such a case, dpkg
removes the offending package, assuming that the to-be-installed
conflicting one supersedes it (because of the Replaces). Note that dpkg
processes packages in the order given on the command line, so the old

Is that all? I would expect that perl-modules should also get configured.

The result: the package 'perl-modules' is not installed (e.g. removed),

Are you sure that it is not installed? What does dpkg -l perl-modules

Yes. The newly created files can have gid of either current gid of
the running process or gid of the parent directory. The SYSV (and linux)

have as a default process while the BSD (and GNU/kFreeBSD)
have as a default parent directory.

See i.e. man mount, Mount options for ext2:
grpid or bsdgroups / nogrpid or sysvgroups
These options define what group id a newly created file gets.
When grpid is set, it takes the group id of the directory in
which it is created; otherwise (the default) it takes the fsgid
of the current process, unless the directory has the setgid bit
set, in which case it takes the gid from the parent directory,
and also gets the setgid bit set if it is a directory itself.

By the way, in order to save bandwidth of both you and
ftp.de.debian.org, you should have a look at
http://www.debian.org/CD/mirroring/#jigdomirror which builds ISO from
your packages mirror.

*Now it's ok we are using Jigdomirror Application and we

Please ensure sync/build is automatic.

The debian-cd mirror is fully automatic. We are using the cd-mirror
script with jigdo-mirror and jigdo-file of this page:
http://www.acc.umu.se/~maswan/debian-push/cdimage/
As you can see on:
http://debian.advalem.net/debian-cd/5.0.3/amd64/iso-bd/
we have iso-bd file generated by jigdo that other mirror doesn't have.
We also changed our upstream server because some files are missing on
ftp.de, now we are using: http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/release
We update once a week for debian-cd.

IPv6: yes

Maybe not in your DNS:
debian.advalem.net has address 94.247.233.17

Yes, but there is still no IPv6 entry. Maybe you didn't want to tick IPv6 at
submission ?

Sorry, we forget to set it in the DNS. The IPv6 address is:
2a02:e10:0:5:230:48ff:fe58:290c/64

BTW, there is no reverse record on 94.247.233.17

*The reverse is ok.*

Thanks.

Archive-upstream: ftp.de.debian.org
Security-upstream: ftp.de.debian.org
Volatile-upstream: ftp.de.debian.org
CDImage-upstream: ftp.de.debian.org

Why not ftp.fr. as upstream since you peer on FreeIX ?

*We don't have FreeIX for the moment but we will. We are using
ftp.de because we have better bitrate with this server*

Updates: twice

[..]

I suppose that you prefer push-mirroring but we asked to ftp.de and we
didn't get any answer. Maybe when we will get a FreeIX connexion we will
set a push-mirroring.

Comment: Updated at 6:25 and 15:00

How much bandwidth is available ?
It appears to me as one of the fastest french mirror (though it is not
yet loaded) :-)

*1 Gbit/s *

Bug#555892: RFP: ptouch-driver -- CUPS/Foomatic driver for Brother P-touch label printers

2009-11-12 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

http://www.diku.dk/hjemmesider/ansatte/panic/P-touch/ has the program
ptouch-driver, which is a driver for CUPS and Foomatic for Brother
P-touch label printers.

I made a quick-and-dirty package for myself, diff.gz attached. Note that
I am _not_ willing to maintain this myself, unfortunately. I will soon
be far away from my label printer.

The diff contains a fix that works for at least the QL-550 model, which
seems to have 275 dpi pixel density along one axis, and 300 on the
other. The upstream code assumes 300 for both. The incorrect density
makes the label cutter cut at the wrong place (in the middle of a label,
rather than between them). I've informed the upstream author of this.

Other than that, the package is extremely straightforward to make, using
dh (or cups, I assume).

When I installed my package, and added the printer via the GNOME printer
admin tool, it generated a PPD file in /etc/cups/ppd/Brother-QL-550.ppd,
which works otherwise fine, but the ImageableArea settings are wrong,
and make it impossible to print near the edges of the labels. I fixed
this by editing the file manually, since I could not figure out how that
file gets generated and fix the source of the wrong settings. I'm
attaching the manually edited file as well. Someone who understands the
whole CUPS system should figure out the proper fix.

Bug#555893: O: libdiscid -- Library for creating MusicBrainz DiscIDs

2009-11-12 Thread Lukáš Lalinský
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

libdiscid is a C library for creating MusicBrainz DiscIDs from
audio CDs. It reads a CD's table of contents (TOC) and generates
an identifier which can be used to lookup the CD at MusicBrainz.
Additionally, it provides a submission URL for adding the DiscID
to the database.

I no longer use Debian as my OS. Even though I'd like to keep
maintaining this package, I'm afraid I don't have enough time to do it.

Bug#555857: qemubuilder does not emulate scsi

To emulate scsi, as per the qemu doc, the following is required:
  qemu -drive file=file,if=scsi,bus=0,unit=6

Qemu also seems to be supporting virtio. Adding support for that too
  would be good.

Bug#555884: qemubuilder: should have an opiton to force kqemu

2009-11-12 Thread Junichi Uekawa

Hi,

There are three modes of operation.

1. kernel kqemu for everything including kernel code
2. kernel kqemu for userland code
3. no kqemu

The current option is to do 2, and not 1, since 1 did not sometimes
work. If you can show 1 always works, I can turn that on, but I think
the improvement is minimal.

 the improvement is minimal.

I had been using kvm for a long time on my boxes. For my laptop, which doesn't
have VT, I need to rely on kqemu now.
My earlier usage of kqemu (probably 2yrs ago - when it was not GPL) was with
success. Using with kqemu gave dramatic performance improvements.

I think option 1 works perfectly well for a Linux Guest. Can't it be enabled
as an option ?

Bug#555644: Work around for libc6: fails to update

2009-11-12 Thread S H Mohanjith
I was faced with the same issue and I followed what Andreas Beckmann
has suggested. Like Andreas Beckmann I was stuck with an error code
between 100-106 (104 in my case). I manged to upgrade libc6 by
commenting out set -e in /var/lib/dpkg/info/libc6.postinst and
/var/lib/dpkg/info/libc6.preinst (2nd line).

I don't know what are the side effects of this action, but it sure
helped me upgrade libc6.

Cheers,

Bug#555896: aptitude: dist-upgrade doesn't install new essential pkgs from non-default release

2009-11-12 Thread Ivan Vilata i Balaguer
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.11.11-1~lenny1
Severity: normal

I have a pinning setup where all packages are pulled from the stable release
with some
exceptions which are pulled from testing. All relevant config files are
included below. After
adding the testing repo line to ``sources.list`` and setting APT's pinning
preferences, running
``apt-get dist-upgrade`` finds new essential packages from testing and installs
them. However,
under the same situation, running ``aptitude dist-upgrade`` doesn't install
anything. After
installing them manually or using ``apt-get``, they are correctly regarded as
essential by
Aptitude.

Assuming that the behaviour of ``apt-get`` is right (see #216768), Aptitude
should also install
the new essential packages when ``dist-upgrade`` is run. Thanks!

 explaining it?

Say you built your kernel as user foo on one machine.

Say
/lib/modules/2.6.31.6/source
or
/lib/modules/2.6.31.6/build
therefor may points to
/home/foo/kernels/linux-2.6.31.6

Now you install that kernel on a different machine exposed where user foo
exists, too.

You now have to trust machine exposed. You must trust f...@exposed that it
does not provide a manipulated /home/foo/kernels/linux-2.6.31.6 which will
either produce a trojaned kernel module or simply uses errors in dkms, gcc,
binutils, ... to gain root access.

I think virtualbox should do it like other similar packages which build kernel
modules:

virtualbox-ose-source for building binary-modules as self-sufficent
deb-packages

virtualbox-ose-dkms for the dkms approach

Sehe batman-adv-source|dkms or openafs-modules-source|dkms

After I tried every possible solution (my primary suspect was metacity)
most obvious solution came to my mind ... Mesa.

I installed libgl1-mesa-glx, and reinstalled libgl1-mesa-dri and

Bug#553632: junior-config: A manual fix

2009-11-12 Thread Shai Berger
Package: junior-config

Bug#545426: serial console instructions not migrated from grub-legacy

2009-11-12 Thread Michael Stone
I used the same steps to get serial working again, except that I also
had to add

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=console=ttyS0,9600n8
(kopt was *not* preserved). (This host was converted on 8 Sep 2009, so
maybe the changelog entry about kopt in 1.97~beta3-1 would have fixed
that?)

Bug#555892: RFP: ptouch-driver -- CUPS/Foomatic driver for Brother P-touch, label printers

2009-11-12 Thread Till Kamppeter

Thank you for your work on packaging the ptouch driver.

I have tried it and I have done the following changes:

1. I have corrected the upstream version number of the Debian package.
It must be 0.13.

2. I have added a margin definition to the driver/ptouch.xml file
assuming zero margins. Now the PPD coming out is the same as your
hand-edited PPD.

I did not do the following yet, but I would do it when making a Ubuntu
package:

1. The 2 changes in the original source code should be supplied as patches

2. There should be a post-install script updating the PPD files of
already existing print queues as all Ubuntu printer driver packages have.

The new ptouch-driver_0.13-1.diff.gz is attached. make sure to rename
the upstream tarball to ptouch-driver_0.13.orig.tar.gz when using the
new .diff.gz.

Hi,

We are seeing I/O hang when volumes (configured with rdac path checker) are

snippet below:

Oct 15 14:40:44 linux multipathd: 8:32: mark as failed

Below is the patch that fix this issue. When devices are unmapped from storage,
rdac patch checker sets the path state for those devices as ghost. As a reason
dm issues mode select to failover path group and fails with 0x59100, which
eventually ends up with ping pong between path groups resulting in I/O hang. In
rdac path checker, we need to check if devices are not connected, mark it as
failed. This patch adds check for Peripheral Qualifier (PQ) Peripheral Device
type(PDT) of Inquiry data and fails the path if either 1) PQ is set to 0x1 or 2)
PQ set to 0x11 and PDT set to 0x1F.

Any ideas on that one?

Bug#555903: udev runs on 2.2.26 but checks for 2.6.28

2009-11-12 Thread Christian Motschke
Package: udev
Version: 147-2
Severity: important

udev runs on an 2.2.26 kernel, but the init-script tests if the kernel is at
least of version 2.6.28.
Either the error message is false or the regexp to check the kernel version. I
changed the regexp and
udev runs on my 26.26 kernel.
BTW: It is important that udev runs on 2.6.26 because this is the highest
kernel version of
debian suported xen kernel.

Bug#555904: zim: crash on Time Date insert

2009-11-12 Thread Maxim
Package: zim
Version: 0.25-1
Severity: normal

The Zim crashes each time I try to insert Date Time.
I tried bot ways - through Insert menu option and Ctrl+D hotkey.
It is not very critical, but it would be good to have this feature
working.

ps
It seems like Zim is what I was looking for :)
