that upstream will fix the nearly 300
bugs in their bug tracker.
After all, corrupted installation media could possibly result
in serious data loss and I don't think it's acceptable to have
such dangerously unreliable software in Debian.

fai-setup-storage already supports creating GPT partition tables which
are required to install Linux in EFI mode. EFI bootloaders require a
FAT partition at the beginning of the disk into which they are installed
and later loaded

on the severity of the bug report since the latter can be adjusted
by anyone.
You need to convince them that an update to the package is justified
with arguments based on the actual bug.

related to your problem, but you could add the attached kdm.service
file and add it to /lib/systemd/system and see if that fixes your
problem.
