After installing the debian package locale-bin, the problem has
apparently been solved.
Even if I use the configure switch '--with-linux-vga', ./configure
doesn't see -lvga.

Somehow I lost or deleted file update-rc.d. I'm not sure whether it should
go in /sbin or /usr/sbin. Would someone be really kind and eMail me a recent
version of this binary file.
Dpkg won't install certain packages without this file and I'm really stuck.

very attractive. It is, however, packaged for RedHat. Has someone on our list
had successful experience installing it via alien or whatever method? If so

if I don't have the proper permissions to do so. I also can rename the
file, but I can't alter the file. This holds true even if the file

Our local network has a mail server (ehess.cnrs-mrs.fr).
Any mail (sent directely or through pine) to an external server
from my PC with linux reaches its aim without problem.
However, any mail sent to a local user (such as [EMAIL PROTECTED] etc)
fails and generates a [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I think that's hdc=cdrom. Try that on the boot command line as:

Yes, I own a copy of applix. I also happen to maintain alien. Alien can
easily convert the rpm's that come on the applix CD into debian packages. I
took it an extra step and added a special patch file to applix for alien,
which should let it convert applix using less disk space and move the
