Re: SMTP local avec exim4

2010-09-05 Thread Mourad Jaber

Le 03/09/2010 23:27, Goldy a écrit :

Bonjour,

dc_eximconfig_configtype='internet'
dc_other_hostnames='none'
dc_local_interfaces='127.0.0.1'
dc_readhost='HOSTNAME' #(volontairement masqué)
dc_relay_domains='none'
dc_minimaldns='false'
dc_relay_nets='none'
dc_smarthost='HOSTNAME' #(volontairement masqué)
CFILEMODE='644'
dc_use_split_config='false'
dc_hide_mailname='true'
dc_mailname_in_oh='true'
dc_localdelivery='mail_spool'

http://debian.pastebin.com/130fAy2t
le dmesg :
http://debian.pastebin.com/ygVc9gxf
le kern.log :
http://debian.pastebin.com/QUXdHQfe
Le démon cpufreqd m'indique ceci :

(No such file or directory)
Le fichier /var/log/debug m'indique ca a tres nombreuses reprises (au moins 4
fois toutes les deux/trois minutes :
Sep 5 20:20:33 andromeda kernel: [ 999.644346] groups: 1 (cpu_power = 589)

Sep 5 20:20:33 andromeda kernel: [ 999.644380]groups: 0-1 (cpu_power =

Si j'utilise la commande suivante en root ;

 echo [profil] /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor

CC=gcc-version-necesitada sh VmWare-Instalador.run

switch? The simplest example I can think of is a system with

Be careful what you ask for, hub/switch in networking context means
those devices (operating at layer 1 2, aka Ethernet in most configs)
used for physically connecting multiple computers, usually belonging to
the same layer 3 4 network (TCP/IP) ;)

AFAICT, what you ask for is a gateway/router. Here is a very short
tutorial:

,[ /etc/network/interfaces ]
| # the Internet interface, assuming a static config
| # as received from the Internet provider
| iface eth0 inet static
| address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx # this is your Internet IP address
| netmask 255.255.255.0
| gateway xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx # this is your gateway to the Internet
| dns-nameservers xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
|
| # internal network, where this computer is the gateway
| iface eth1 inet static
| address 192.168.0.1
| netmask 255.255.255.0
`

Install resolvconf, shorewall, dnsmasq. For shorewall first you need to
he files contained in /usr/share/doc/shorewall-common/default-config to
/etc/shorewall/ and then adjust a few of them according to the example
in /usr/share/doc/shorewall-common/examples/two-interfaces (all paths
from memory as both gateways I administer remotely are currently
shut-down). Also don't forget to set IP_FORWARDING=On (instead of Keep)
in /etc/shorewall/shorewall.conf.

On a client machine you only need the package resolvconf and:

,[ /etc/network/interfaces ]
| iface eth0 inet static
| address 192.168.0.xx# anything else but 192.168.0.1
| netmask 255.255.255.0
| gateway 192.168.0.1
| dns-nameservers 192.168.0.1 # yes, the gateway, because we have dnsmasq
`

If you want your gateway to also provide DHCP just uncomment one example
that suits you in /etc/dnsmasq.conf and restart dnsmasq. On the client
side you only need:

iface eth0 inet dhcp

To connect multiple computers you need an Ethernet switch, preferably
with auto-crossover or even Gigabit capabilities (a hub would also do,
but I doubt you can still buy one...). You can also add a network card
for each additional internal computer and use bridge-utils to create a
bridge. This way your gateway will also act as a switch ;)

This setup is very flexible and can be extended in several ways
depending on your needs.

Andrei

Re: Linux hub

2010-09-05 Thread Ariel Laganá

Hi,

I don't know if it's possible to make a hub with multiples NICs using
Linux, I would say it isn't, cause a hub it's a physical signal repeater
and re-generator...

In the case of an ethernet switch, it's possible using bridge-utils
package. You need multiple NICs (you can also bridge virtual interfaces
like Xen, but I don't think that's what you're looking for). Once you've
installed the package, you need to use the command brctl to create and
configure the bridge.

Greetings!

Hello all,

I did this once years ago, used a Debian machine with 5 nics as a switch
between multiple network segments to reduce broadcast storms and generally
improve network performance. I do not have the exact instructions now, I
think it was on tldp.org that I found it. Google for linux bridge. This

syslog stopped loggin to messages?

2010-09-05 Thread Joost Kraaijeveld
Hi,

I noticed on one of my machines that syslog stopped logging
tot /var/log/messages. I have compared this machine to another one on
which syslog still works. I cannot find any differences between the two
machines.

1. Does anyone have an idea of how this (syslog stopping to log to
messages) could happen?
2. How to get syslog start logging again?

I am using sysklogd 1.5-5 om Debain Squeeze AMD64

but after I plug in again my webcam, I think.

Regardless after boot, or after plug out and plug in again, these

And still I can use my webcam only after re-plugin its USB cable to USB

  You need to:

a. Get your mail to the same machine as your CD-Writer.

b. Use a CD-writer to write the mail to CD-ROM/DVD.

Since you give little details of how you access your mail people
 cannot be more specific..

Chances are you use IMAP, or some similar means to access your
mail. If that is the case you can look at using imapsync or
similar to archive your mail to your local machine - which is step
 a listed above.

Otherwise you'll have to be more specific. Remember when asking

Upgrade of squeeze hangs on apt (0.7.26~exp3)

2010-09-05 Thread brownh
With a brand new installation of squeeze, one of my first steps was to
do a package update and a safe-upgrade. The former went well, but when
I tried to upgrade the 22 updated packages, the upgrade proceedure
terminated with:

  Reading changelogs ... done

  apt (0.7.26~exp3) experimental; urgency=low
* apt-ftparchive now reads the standard configuration files in
  /etc/apt/apt.conf and /etc/apt/apt.conf.d

and after some more lines ends with

  /tmp/tmp (END)

and it takes a Ctl-C to break back to a command prompt. The upgrade
process is terminated and nothing was actually upgraded. I can repeat,
and each time only the tmp file id number changes, but the 22 packages
are still not upgraded.

A google search leaves me unclear, but it seems that some experimental
features of apt are being merged into squeeze.

Should I just ignore this until such time as a clean upgrade becomes
possible? Is there a work-around?

Do yourself a huge favour, and switch to rsyslog...

klogd can lose information for a number of reasons, it is unreliable, and it
has always been unreliable IME.

I've seen it lose communication with syslogd on various systems in the past
several years. As soon as rsyslogd became stable enough for production use,
we switched all of our systems away from the syslogd+klogd combo and never
had any more issues.

Don't try. You must run any recovery program from another disk. Only
this way you maximize the chances of recovery.

By the way, the easiest way to recover is to restore the files from the
backups you certainly made before. ;-)

*cough* I don't want to get rid of the applet, I do need it from time to

quickly see the current battery charge.

So, in brief: you don't like Powerdevil's layout/UI but still want it to
switch between power management profiles.

I see the following options:

- You can use another applet/plasmoid -instead Powerdevil- to get the job
done (whether available).

- You can remove the package responsible for hibernation (swsusp/uswsusp)
to avoid the computer going into S4 state. I find this approach a little
radical, meaning I wouldn't take that path, but that is up to you.
Powerdevil just shows you the available features your kernel is detecting
and if the kernel can suspend to ram and suspend to disk, Powerdevil
just displays both.

- You can just take care when clicking Powerdevil applet to avoid
pressing the wrong button. I find this the most suitable solution :-)

AFAICT, what you ask for is a gateway/router. Here is a very short
 tutorial: ...

Thanks. http://carnot.yi.org/NetworksPage.html shows that dalton
and joule have been performing this function for some time; years
in fact. The question of the previous message about hub or switch
was asked with the intention of adding the specific capability of
transmitting communication of carnot through dalton rather than
through the Allied Telesis 3612TR. A salient detail is that
carnot has a public address whereas a masqueraded machine under
a router typically has a private address. Further details are
in the extensive discussion with Bob Proulx over recent days,

No - that is the point of a live CD, it doesn't touch the HDD. You don't need
to have the photorec application anywhere other than in the distro that is in
your RAM and then use that to look at your HDD. It would be most unwise to
do anything to the HDD.

It looks as though you don't understand how a Live CD works. There is a good
entry on what a Live CD is in Wikipedia. You could also Google. But,
whatever you do, leave your HDD alone until you have sorted the problem out.
It would be too easy to make a mistake and overwrite the files that you are
trying to salvage.

[debian-user] Any one getting aptitude frozen on update with Translation-en bzip2 ?

2010-09-05 Thread Javier Vasquez
Hi,

I use debian unstable, and when trying to do aptitude update Today I
face at the very end:

99% [1 Translation-en bzip2 0]

And then aptitude just freezes forever...

I searched through google for this, and I found old bug reports about
that but for apt-get:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=535182 (june 2009)
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=505092 (november 2008)

The second one suggests it's a problem in the repos, that eventually
went away. The 1st one though, which wasn't ever answered, suggests
perhaps a problem with apt-get not handling correctly the compression
used for a package (update uses bzip on Packages.gz when no .bz2 is
available). I'm getting this on aptitude (it's been a while since I
don't use apt-get, since the initial days of aptitude, when it was
said it was a bad idea to mix the 2)...

This is the first time I see this on years, so perhaps someone else
has experienced this before? Any suggestions? Also, can anyone else
confirm they're hit by this? I'm using repos from:

debian.osuosl.org
debian-multimedia.org
unofficial.debian-maintainers.org

For unstable, and for both architectures (amd64 and i686), and all
machines are freezing on aptitude update as of now...

Thanks,

--
Javier.

You need to be more specific in your question. Seen is such a
terrible word in a technical sense. For me that would mean that the
kernel's usb module detected it and logged it to /var/log/syslog.
Please look at the activity in /var/log/syslog and report what is
happening when you insert or remove the usb device.

But I imagine that you are using a GNOME desktop environment (or a KDE
desktop environment) and no icon is appearing on your desktop after
plugging it in? Is that what is happening for you? Unfortunately
with those it all depends upon what packages you have installed.
(Personally I despise those types of happy extras and disable them
on my machine so I won't be much help for you but at least it will
identify the problem.) It doesn't mean that your machine isn't
seeing the usb device.

Do you have gnome-mount installed?

  $ dpkg -l gnome-mount

Summary: Both *before* and *after* inserting the usb device:

  $ cat /proc/partitions
  $ less /var/log/syslog

Observing any differences will be clues to what is happening.

This does not look good. Looks like a bad drive.

I would run both short and long self tests and see the results from
it. First look to see if any errors are already logged.

  # smartctl -H /dev/sdc

  # smartctl -l selftest /dev/sdc

  # smartctl -a /dev/sdc | less

Then after observing the results already logged:

  # smartctl -t short /dev/sdc
  # sleep 120
  # smartctl -l selftest /dev/sdc

Then depending upon that I would run a long test.

  # smartctl -t long /dev/sdc
  # sleep $((60*20)) # as long as needed for long self test to complete
  # smartctl -l selftest /dev/sdc

I don't hold out much hope. I expect there to be errors in the
selftest log. In which case I would say that the drive is bad and
replace it as soon as possible.

Fw: udev rules network

2010-09-05 Thread Bonno Bloksma

Hi,

Short:
Is there a way to regenerate the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file
based on the current
situation?

Long:
Had a motherbord swap in a server and afterwards some of the eth* devices
pointed to the wrong
interface. Of cource, the old NICs on the mainboard had been replaced by new
NICs.
Deleting the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules helped me get the server
back up and running.

If I recall correctly the udev rules are there to make sure the same device
name is used for the
same hardware during hardware changes and I can still see the advantage in case
I need to add more
network ports by adding another network card. The udev rules would then make
sure the new ports come
after the currect eth0, .., eth5.
Is there a way to recreate a /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file
based on the current
situation?

.xsession kills X server with sqeeze/fluxbox

doable, eg its not a laptop) and use photorec [1] to recover what you
can.

If you cant, use a livecd for example sysresccd [2] (can be used from a

Filenames etc will not be the same, but you should get back most of it
if you haven’t written anything to the drive.

Note: Dont try to recover to the same partition as the one with the
data on it which you are trying to get back!

I have been able to recover just about everything when i messed up a
partition table on a drive, some files where corrupted, but most
survived, the biggest problem was that the names where not intact,
though that might depends on the filesystem you are recovering from,
ymmv!

Is there a way to recreate a /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

You can edit that file at your convenience, that is, if the new

edit the rules to adjust them and get eth0, eth1 if that is your goal.

You can do this by commenting (#) the old rules and just add the new ones.

You need to explain what you mean by show up on screen. What does
  dmesg / syslog say?

 Hi Celejar and Boyd

I used synaptic to search for ntsf and installed it as it was unmarked.
I am using gnome as a desktop.

Celejar -- here is my dmesg -- first time I have used this -- I am

Correct.

in a memory stick. It does not show up when I click on 'computer' under
 places.

I don't know anything about the desktop icons and such. You should try
to mount it from the CLI, with something like (as root)
'mount /dev/sda1 /mnt' and see what happens. If it doesn't work,
report the error messages and syslog / dmesg.

Do you get any errors from sound playing software or just no output. Did
you try some console players (like asound or speaker-test)

Sid). Get error like the following trying to manually modprobe any of
 the drivers:

This should not be necessary

[snip out of context errors]

 Fix?

Would you mind sharing with us the type of sound card installed in that
system? lspci at least ;)

Output of 'cat /proc/asound/cards' would also be nice.

Recording A/V from embedded Flash player

2010-09-05 Thread Celejar
I'm looking for a general solution to record audio and video from Flash
players embedded in webpages. I've searched the web, but not found any
really general solution. Some Flash video players save a .flv file
under /tmp, and that's great, since I can just copy it somewhere else
(sometimes it's necessary to do this before the video finishes (pausing
it if necessary), since it disappears on completion, but usually it
remains there indefinitely). Obviously, anything that uses a mms: url
is manageable, since I can then feed that url to mplayer or vlc and
instruct them to capture / dump it. But what to do when neither of
these is the case, and AFAICT the player is using some proprietary
protocol to communicate with the server?

I'm interested in audio and video, but primarily the former. Now,
obviously the Flash code isn't providing its own HW drivers, so it must
be talking to the ALSA and video subsystems, so shouldn't there be some
way to instruct ALSA to dump the audio to a file?

Any help, ideas, leads will be much appreciated

When I need to just capture the audio from something I use audacity.

Alternately you can look at the webpage source and see what the file
name is of the flash and see if you can get it with wget. Or try a
firefox extension that will download and save as an mp4.
