RE: [Declude.JunkMail] AUTOWHITELIST Question....

2007-04-10 Thread David Barker
Chuck,

In Imail we only check the users address book, in Smartermail we check the
users address book, the users trusted sender list and the domains trusted
sender list.

If [EMAIL PROTECTED] has [EMAIL PROTECTED] in his user address book then
it applies only to [EMAIL PROTECTED] unless there are multiple recipients
on the email in which case all will then be whitelisted. As an email with
multiple recipients is only 1 (D*.smd and Q*.smd) email when received by
Declude.

I have not turned on autowhitelist but am considering doing so. I a have
question regarding this - does declude only look at the web messaging

messaging address book does the whitelisting only apply to joeblows account
or does it apply to everyones account?

Just the individual's account. One thing that does sometimes happen,
though, is that the user puts their own address in their webmail address
book. So, anything that forges that person's address when sending to them
gets through. Something for the user FAQ...

The Declude feature is not broken, Ipswitch changed the way contacts are in
Imail 2006 in that they are now in a central access DB instead of in
individual files.

I believe Declude is looking into how they can adapt the feature to the new
Imail format.

I'm currently running Imail 8.21 and declude 3.0.5.20. I've been watching
for a certain set of features to be available in IMail 2006 with Declude
before I upgrade.
Specifically, AutoWhitelist and the Mailbox Action.

My customers are used to checking their Spam folder online and adding any
false positives to their Contacts list for whitelisting.

I remember reading on one of my email lists that the Declude Autowhitelist
feature is broken when used with Imail 2006. Was this really the case? Has
it been fixed in current release? Is anyone using it successfully?

Hi David,

Thanks for the update.
Is the AUTOWHITELIST fixed in the new version, we need to upgrade to Imail
2006 before our Imail SA runs out. We did one of our small servers and it is
a pain to have to manually update aliases.txt file for our customers. The
next server has over 2000 customers that are using the AUTOWHITELIST. The
tech support would go through the roof if we had to update the aliases.txt
for that many customers.

Thanks Tim

My Autowhitelist appears to have stopped working. Customers email has
started to go to the spam folder even though the sending email address is
in
their WebMail Contacts List.

I don't know at this point exactly when this problem began, but it is
recent. I upgraded from 1.82 to 3.0 about 2 weeks ago, but I don't know

it's related.

Looking at the logs, it appears the email is being treated as if

Has anyone encountered this before?

[Declude.JunkMail] Autowhitelist not working

My Autowhitelist appears to have stopped working. Customers email has
started to go to the spam folder even though the sending email address is in
their WebMail Contacts List.

I don't know at this point exactly when this problem began, but it is
recent. I upgraded from 1.82 to 3.0 about 2 weeks ago, but I don't know if
it's related.

Looking at the logs, it appears the email is being treated as if

No, IMail won't allow that, but you can add "[EMAIL PROTECTED]". The

whitelisted.

That is not completely true:
I have the entry "Declude Mailinglisten" <@declude.com> in my

But I had to put it there by hand.

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] AutoWhiteList

2004-12-12 Thread Michael Thomas - Mathbox
Serge,

The javascript checker shipped with standard web mail templates (V8.05 I
have 8.14, but did not test) will not allow "@domain.com" to be added. The
checker requires "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" Javascript checkers with other template
sets may allow it. Or you could modify the checker to allow it.

You can add "@domain.com" as a contact in the contact list. Note that AFAIK
Declude still only whitelists the first address in a contact list. I
reported that issue to Declude on 5/24/2004. I have not heard that it was
fixed. Note that the issue is "I may have an address in a contact list that
is not anywhere else in my address book."

And a final note regarding whitelisting, which is still true AFAIK. Assume
the situation, [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], and [EMAIL PROTECTED] are
valid
email addresses and that emailb has emaila listed in emailb's addresss book.
If emaila sends a message to emailc on the TO line and puts emailb on the
BCC line, then the message is whitelisted for both emailb AND emailc. If you
have "XINHEADER X-Message: %TESTSFAILED%" in your rules, you will see that
the headers of each recipient indicated the sender was whitelisted. I would
have expected the message to be processed on the merits of each recipients
settings, including whitelisting by address book.

I just noticed that one of my users has listed his own address in his Web
address book, and I'm thinking this could become an occasional
circumstance with unintended consequences. Since I turned AUTOWHITELIST
ON, this means that anything with a MAILFROM that forges his personal
address will end up whitelisted, and that definitely happens with a lot of
spam.
That is correct.

I could police my users and educate them, but would it make sense to make
a change to AUTOWHITELIST so that it would only work on addresses other
than the recipient's own? That way they don't end up whitelisting a good
deal of spam.
I'll see if we can do this. It may get a bit tricky with the various
combinations of user aliases, host aliases, and forwarding, but we could
probably get it to work in most cases.

[Declude.JunkMail] Autowhitelist AND gateways

2003-12-15 Thread Mark Smith
How does (or doesn't it) AUTOWHITELIST work with a Gateway situation?
We use iMail/Junkmail simply as a spam solution to MSFT Exchange 2003.

My hunch is that it doesn't work because the users won't have a local login.
Then again, I could write an application to extract contacts from a given
users mailbox and insert them into the iMail contacts.
That would probably cause the gateway to stop functioning because the
mailbox would be on the iMail server.

Personal Whitelist

A personal whitelist allows you to accept email messages from any email
address you want no matter how many Spam tests the message actually fails.

There are three options currently available in the personal whitelist
feature. You can whitelist individual email addresses, whitelist all
messages from a certain domain and, if you do not want the anti-Spam service

3. [EMAIL PROTECTED] - whitelist all messages from everyone (turns off Spam
filtering). Enter [EMAIL PROTECTED] to whitelist all messages sent to your
address.

>From that point on, any message sent to your e-mail address will be checked
against your address book in WebMail. If the "from" address of the message
is in your address book, you'll receive the message no matter how many Spam
tests the message fails. If the "from" address is not in your address book,
the message will be processed by the anti-Spam system as it normally
processes messages.

To add an email address to your personal whitelist:

Go to http://mail.tenforward.com and supply your e-mail address and your
e-mail password. Once you are logged into WebMail, click the Contacts link
at the top right. You will see some examples on that page of how to add an
address or addresses to your address book.
