RE: [Declude.JunkMail] AUTOWHITELIST Question....
Chuck, In Imail we only check the users address book, in Smartermail we check the users address book, the users trusted sender list and the domains trusted sender list. If [EMAIL PROTECTED] has [EMAIL PROTECTED] in his user address book then it applies only to [EMAIL PROTECTED] unless there are multiple recipients on the email in which case all will then be whitelisted. As an email with multiple recipients is only 1 (D*.smd and Q*.smd) email when received by Declude. Re: [Declude.JunkMail] AUTOWHITELIST Question....
Just the individual's account. One thing that does sometimes happen, though, is that the user puts their own address in their webmail address book. So, anything that forges that person's address when sending to them gets through. Something for the user FAQ... Darin. - Original Message - From: "Chuck Schick" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Declude. Re: [Declude.JunkMail] AutoWhiteList
Serge, The javascript checker shipped with standard web mail templates (V8.05 I have 8.14, but did not test) will not allow "@domain.com" to be added. The checker requires "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" Javascript checkers with other template sets may allow it. Or you could modify the checker to allow it. You can add "@domain.com" as a contact in the contact list. Note that AFAIK Declude still only whitelists the first address in a contact list. I reported that issue to Declude on 5/24/2004. I have not heard that it was fixed. Note that the issue is "I may have an address in a contact list that is not anywhere else in my address book." And a final note regarding whitelisting, which is still true AFAIK. Assume the situation, [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], and [EMAIL PROTECTED] are valid email addresses and that emailb has emaila listed in emailb's addresss book. If emaila sends a message to emailc on the TO line and puts emailb on the BCC line, then the message is whitelisted for both emailb AND emailc. If you have "XINHEADER X-Message: %TESTSFAILED%" in your rules, you will see that the headers of each recipient indicated the sender was whitelisted. I would have expected the message to be processed on the merits of each recipients settings, including whitelisting by address book. Re: [Declude.JunkMail] AUTOWHITELIST issue
I just noticed that one of my users has listed his own address in his Web address book, and I'm thinking this could become an occasional circumstance with unintended consequences. Since I turned AUTOWHITELIST ON, this means that anything with a MAILFROM that forges his personal address will end up whitelisted, and that definitely happens with a lot of spam. That is correct. I could police my users and educate them, but would it make sense to make a change to AUTOWHITELIST so that it would only work on addresses other than the recipient's own? That way they don't end up whitelisting a good deal of spam. I'll see if we can do this. It may get a bit tricky with the various combinations of user aliases, host aliases, and forwarding, but we could probably get it to work in most cases. -Scott --- Declude JunkMail: The advanced anti-spam solution for IMail mailservers. Scott, I just noticed that one of my users has listed his own address in his Web address book, and I'm thinking this could become an occasional circumstance with unintended consequences. RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Autowhitelist AND gateways
Declude AUTOWHITELIST relies upon the users address list residing on the same server. Therefore, it does not work for gateway solutions. However, there is another product that does work if both incoming and outgoing flow through Imail. http://www.eservicesforyou.com/products/autowhite.html ;) John Tolmachoff Engineer/Consultant/Owner eServices For You > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:Declude.JunkMail- > [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mark Smith > Sent: Monday, December 15, 2003 4:52 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [Declude.JunkMail] Autowhitelist AND gateways > > How does (or doesn't it) AUTOWHITELIST work with a Gateway situation? > We use iMail/Junkmail simply as a spam solution to MSFT Exchange 2003. > > My hunch is that it doesn't work because the users won't have a local > login. > Then again, I could write an application to extract contacts from a given > users mailbox and insert them into the iMail contacts. > That would probably cause the gateway to stop functioning because the > mailbox would be on the iMail server. > > > > --- > [This E-mail was scanned for viruses by Declude Virus > (http://www.declude.com)] > > --- > This E-mail came from the Declude.JunkMail mailing list. [Declude.JunkMail] Autowhitelist AND gateways
How does (or doesn't it) AUTOWHITELIST work with a Gateway situation? We use iMail/Junkmail simply as a spam solution to MSFT Exchange 2003. My hunch is that it doesn't work because the users won't have a local login. Then again, I could write an application to extract contacts from a given users mailbox and insert them into the iMail contacts. That would probably cause the gateway to stop functioning because the mailbox would be on the iMail server. --- [This E-mail was scanned for viruses by Declude Virus (http://www.declude.com)] --- This E-mail came from the Declude.JunkMail mailing list. So the e-mail that Mr. Koehler listed yesterday afternoon about this subject is incorrect? Darn, that would be an awesome feature. His e-mail is listed below... You can use "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" to whitelist all E-mail addresses at a domain. However, you can not use a wildcard, as in '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'. -Scott --- Declude JunkMail: The advanced anti-spam solution for IMail mailservers. Re: [Declude.JunkMail] autowhitelist wildcard?
Is there any wildcard character that can be used in the address book addresses for the autowhitelist feature. For instance, if I was subscribed to a newsletter that was sent from [EMAIL PROTECTED], where the numbers after "someone" are different every time, is there some way to put it in the address book without having to whitelist [EMAIL PROTECTED] No, there are no wildcards. -Scott --- Declude JunkMail: The advanced anti-spam solution for IMail mailservers. Re: [Declude.JunkMail] AUTOWHITELIST
Never mind... I found that I had saved it from a web page someone sent me and I have a text file already. Here is the text in case someone else wants it: Personal Whitelist A personal whitelist allows you to accept email messages from any email address you want no matter how many Spam tests the message actually fails. There are three options currently available in the personal whitelist feature. You can whitelist individual email addresses, whitelist all messages from a certain domain and, if you do not want the anti-Spam service at all, you can whitelist all messages sent to your address. [EMAIL PROTECTED] - whitelist all messages from everyone (turns off Spam filtering). Enter [EMAIL PROTECTED] to whitelist all messages sent to your address. >From that point on, any message sent to your e-mail address will be checked against your address book in WebMail. If the "from" address of the message is in your address book, you'll receive the message no matter how many Spam tests the message fails. If the "from" address is not in your address book, the message will be processed by the anti-Spam system as it normally processes messages. Re: [Declude.JunkMail] AUTOWHITELIST ON
I have not used this feature (or should say told my clients about it) but I do have it turned on. I'm curious as to how much resources it needs to do this checking? I assume each email that comes in it has to check the aliases.txt file in that persons account. We haven't run any tests on it, but do not expect a noticeable impact on performance. It will use some extra resources, but not a lot more. -Scott --- Declude JunkMail: The advanced anti-spam solution for IMail mailservers.
