I've noticed this occurs only if I start with AC unplugged. It dimes
screen on startup and if I either plug or unplug later nothing happens.
But I still able to control brightness manually using scripts (not Fn-Fx
buttons).
If I start Ubuntu with AC power attached, everything is fine. I can
Talked to cassidy and according to him its a tp-haze bug so I have
opened a telepathy haze bug report.

I've got the same issue. I've done apport-collect -p udisks 541063 and
gvfs-mount -li /tmp/gvfs.txt (you will find gvfs.txt attached here).
The disk not mounted is the one called NICO in gvfs.txt.

After installing the latest updates to our Ubuntu 08.04.4-Server and removing
--manage-gids from RPCMOUNTDOPTS in /etc/default/nfs-kernel-server
everything works fine.
So i guess it was --manage-gids given for mount options that causes the above
problem.

In order to check the current evince behaviour, I opened again the pdf
linked by Rebecca Palmer. The maximum memory usage I saw using system
monitor was 55 Mb, when scrolling through pages 21-22. As soon as I
passed those two gnuplot graphs, memory usage dropped to about 30 Mb.
Bear in mind that
if you do not have a fix or do not want to fix, please do not install
such games by default anymore.

I also removed laptop-mode-tools and omnibook packages and reinstalled
gnome-power-manager, bug still exists. I've also notices that now
brightness control buttons work without omnibook module loaded, but
every second start. Maybe problem is in the kernel, another way how can
brightness control
