[Bug 32639] Re: Junk Filter Too Good

2006-04-13 Thread Dean Sas
I think this used to happen when you installed bogofilter and evolution, then
opened your email account evolution for the first time. Bogofilter didn't have
any ham so marked everything as junk.

I thought there was an upstream bug somewhere on this, but I can't find it now.
Also I can't reproduce the bug.

Thanks for the answer. My version of Ubuntu is Dapper 6.06 and for the
gnome-user-guide it's the gnome2-user-guide 2.14.2-0ubuntu1 release. Actually,
in the numerous messages i get during the installation, some of them are about
the encoding in UTF-8, like this one:
/var/lib/scrollkeeper/uk/scrollkeeper_cl.xml:600: parser error : Input is not
proper UTF-8, indicate encoding !
Bytes: 0x80 0xD0 0xB8 0x3C

I have same problem. After a fresh install of Dapper the on-board SiS sound

card is listed as SiS Sl7012. Try to change to C-Media PCI CMI8738-MC8.
Change accepted but not saved upon exit. Sound card immediately reverts to the
SiS on-board card. The only app that I have found to get sound through the PCI
card is XMMS. XMMS sound prefrences: OSS driver configured for the PCI card.

[Bug 38795] Re: Gnome Battery Charge Monitor not giving estimated time remaining

2006-04-13 Thread Daniel Holbach
Comment from the Upstream developer:
  battery.charge_level.rate = 0 (0x0) (int)
  battery.reporting.rate = 0 (0x0) (int)
  present rate: unknown

if we don't know the rate at which the battery is discharging then we can't
form an estimate about how much time is remaining.

do other operating systems know how long is left? is this an acpi
implementation bug? maybe this is a kernel bug.

[Bug 39069] Re: Adding Printer Fails with no Dialog

2006-04-13 Thread AlanTam
Hi all,

I don't know if I am wrong, but this bug is titled Adding Printer Fails with
no Dialog, but not Adding Printer Fails. Furthermore, this bug is filed
against gnome-cups-manager, not cupsys --- so it is talking about the GUI, not
the printing system backend.

So it is complaining the fact that it fails silently, not the fact that it
simply fails. Hence bug 39093 (and a few other bugs) should not be a duplicate
of this one.

[Bug 22599] Re: enabling DMA on CD-ROMs causes hal failures

2006-04-13 Thread Mark Manashirov
With the latest stock Dapper kernel (2.6.15-20) I'm not seeing any hdc: lost
interrupt messages nor does my shell become unresponsive after many (3+)
suspend cycles.

I think I may have figured out what was causing my initial problem though. By
unloading ohci1394 I'm able to resume from the second cycle and beyond.

I noticed this when testing with the vanilla kernel. I initially thought it
was fixed, but I only configured a kernel with minimal support. With full
support I had the same problem. After a lot of experimenting, I narrowed it
down to ohci1394.

So, the DMA/CDROM seems to be working fine (I hope), and unloading/reloading
ohci1394 doesn't seem to cause problems. I don't use firewire though so I
can't really test it.

2006-04-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for your bug. Your bug has some points but is not manageable, please
open one bug by issue, lists are rather adapted to comment like that

Some notes on what you said
- beagle is a runtime option, if you don't want to use it don't install beagle
- the beage crawl-system ... is broken is not a yelp issue, that's why one
bug by issue makes sense, beagle maintainers are the right people to ping about
that
- the search is not userfriendly to you. Is that specific to beagle or is
that bug #30819?
- calling something not very userfriendly is not really useful, you could
describe what you would change by example

Hi

+1 for Retrait du périphérique :)

Connecter verb is probably linked with a *network* situation in
beginners mind, while Brancher, Retirer, Débrancher, Retrait is
associated with the physical movement of *(un)plugging* the device.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi,

There is a very frequent mistake : you should write déconnexion in

[Bug 39412] Cannot add a serial printer in Dapper

2006-04-13 Thread Bart Hartgers
Public bug reported:

Affects: gnome-cups-manager (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
This might be an upstream issue, but:

I have a serial HP-DeskWriter 510 connected to /dev/ttyS0, and I cannot
add it via gnome-cups-add. (Even worse, if I manually setup a working
printers.conf, something in the dialog sometimes manages to mess up, so
that printing stops working for me.) As far as I can tell, there are two
problems:

- cupsys does not have (a link to) 'serial' in /usr/lib/cups/backend/, so that
the serial ports don't show up in the Select Port dialog's list of local
ports. Note that not having this backend prevents me from using serial printers
with cups altogether, so I will file a separate bug against cupsys.

- If I add a symlink to the serial backend, I get a load of serial ports
in the Select Port dialog, but no opportunity to specify the baudrate/
flowcontrol/ parity parameters.

The fix IMHO would be to add a single 'Serial Port' item in the dialog's
list of local ports, and if that is selected, present a further dialog
for the device node and parameters.

[Bug 38795] Re: Gnome Battery Charge Monitor not giving estimated time remaining

2006-04-13 Thread Adam
Like I said in the inital report, the icon that shows up in the notification
area (turned on under Power Management Preferences) reports the estimated
remaining time. Also, Windows XP reports the time. It is just this one applet
that doesn't show the time. Even if there is a problem, shouldn't the applet
calculate the amount that the battery went down over a period of time (say a
minute) and it figure it out from there? It does report the percent remaining
correctly. But my main point is that Ubuntu can correctly estimate the
remaining time in the Power Management icon tooltip.

I've tried the GNOME icon theme, seems to be the same. It's not a
severe difference to Breezy, but enough to be inconvenient.

So I don't think it's related to number of emails.

[Bug 39069] Re: Adding Printer Fails with no Dialog

2006-04-13 Thread Dana Olson
Adding a printer should not fail, period. Yes, this bug should probably be
filed against cupsys, but either way, the issue should be fixed now for
everyone. I just updated and tried to add my printer, and it works. The update
was definitely in cupsys. We don't need duplicate bugs that have the same root
cause.

[Bug 27323] Re: hal's automount_enabled_hint causes disk to beep every few seconds

2006-04-13 Thread Martin Pitt
Ah, great, so we surrounded the culprit at least. :)

So let's do the strace dance for these two helpers. Please restart hal (just
rebooting is easiest, or do sudo
/etc/dbus-1/event.d/20hal restart), then find out the process IDs of the
storage addons:

  ps axo pid,cmd |grep hald-addon-storage

Then, for each pid, do

  sudo strace -f -o PID.trace -p PID

(replace 'PID' by the current pid you are examining) and let it run for a
minute, then press Ctrl+C.

Then, please find out which of the two processes was responsible for the disk
access (by killing one and checking whether or not the disk access still
happens). Please attach the .trace file for the responsible process.

Thanks!

[Bug 39069] Re: Adding Printer Fails with no Dialog

2006-04-13 Thread AlanTam
Suppose today a patch goes into cupsys and now most people can add a printer.
Do you mark this bug fixed?

How about if I add a specific printer which really fails, and
gnome-cups-manager fails silently again?

These are 2 problems, hence 2 bugs, and for 2 separate packages.

[Bug 6290] Re: use /dev/video1394, not /dev/raw1394

2006-04-13 Thread Martin Pitt
full ack, but ATM I don't think we should allow access to /dev/raw1394 in a
default installation, it's just too dangerous. The easiest way to make it work
locally is to change 40-permissions.rules (change the group for 'raw1394' from
'disk' to 'video' or 'plugdev').

I know that this sucks, but I'm afraid there is no sane short-term solution :(
