Hi all, I don't know if I am wrong, but this bug is titled Adding Printer Fails with no Dialog, but not Adding Printer Fails. [Bug 22599] Re: enabling DMA on CD-ROMs causes hal failures
With the latest stock Dapper kernel (2.6.15-20) I'm not seeing any hdc: lost interrupt messages nor does my shell become unresponsive after many (3+) suspend cycles. I think I may have figured out what was causing my initial problem though. By unloading ohci1394 I'm able to resume from the second cycle and beyond. I noticed this when testing with the vanilla kernel. I initially thought it was fixed, but I only configured a kernel with minimal support. With full support I had the same problem. After a lot of experimenting, I narrowed it down to ohci1394. So, the DMA/CDROM seems to be working fine (I hope), and unloading/reloading ohci1394 doesn't seem to cause problems. I don't use firewire though so I can't really test it. -- enabling DMA on CD-ROMs causes hal failures https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/22599 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Hi, On Windows, this is translated by Retirer le périphérique which is a very good translation I think. However, the translation depends on the context. [Bug 39412] Cannot add a serial printer in Dapper
Public bug reported: Affects: gnome-cups-manager (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: This might be an upstream issue, but: I have a serial HP-DeskWriter 510 connected to /dev/ttyS0, and I cannot add it via gnome-cups-add. (Even worse, if I manually setup a working printers.conf, something in the dialog sometimes manages to mess up, so that printing stops working for me.) As far as I can tell, there are two problems: - cupsys does not have (a link to) 'serial' in /usr/lib/cups/backend/, so that the serial ports don't show up in the Select Port dialog's list of local ports. Note that not having this backend prevents me from using serial printers with cups altogether, so I will file a separate bug against cupsys. - If I add a symlink to the serial backend, I get a load of serial ports in the Select Port dialog, but no opportunity to specify the baudrate/ flowcontrol/ parity parameters. The fix IMHO would be to add a single 'Serial Port' item in the dialog's list of local ports, and if that is selected, present a further dialog for the device node and parameters. -- Cannot add a serial printer in Dapper https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/39412 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Suppose today a patch goes into cupsys and now most people can add a printer. Do you mark this bug fixed? How about if I add a specific printer which really fails, and gnome-cups-manager fails silently again? These are 2 problems, hence 2 bugs, and for 2 separate packages. -- Adding Printer Fails with no Dialog https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/39069 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 6290] Re: use /dev/video1394, not /dev/raw1394
full ack, but ATM I don't think we should allow access to /dev/raw1394 in a default installation, it's just too dangerous. The easiest way to make it work locally is to change 40-permissions.rules (change the group for 'raw1394' from 'disk' to 'video' or 'plugdev'). I know that this sucks, but I'm afraid there is no sane short-term solution :( -- use /dev/video1394, not /dev/raw1394 https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/6290 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
