[Bug 157780] Re: gnome-session-save scew up session file

2007-11-15 Thread Frodon
Ok please someone at least confirm this on another computer so we can
set this report as confirmed and not incomplete

I edited the description explaining how to reproduce the bug, i can
reproduce this as much as i want and i located the problem. Updating by
hand the Gconf key to /etc/bin/metacity solved my issue.

Hope someone will get interest in fixing this before hardy, this sounds
really easy to fix.

[Bug 132772] Re: Uninstalling compiz disables metacity

2007-11-15 Thread Frodon
It may be related to a bug report i made :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/157780

Basically the command to save the session look at the Gconf key to get
the WM name and i noticed this key is not updated which make your
session still launching your old WM.

Check if my bug description correspond to your problem, first thing is
to verify that your Gconf key points to /usr/bin/metacity and not
/usr/bin/compiz

[Bug 162853] evolution email address autocomplete is broken after compose window is moved

2007-11-15 Thread Chris Lee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Gutsy, evolution2.12.0-0ubuntu5. In the compose window, autocompletion
of email addresses in the to: entry field stops working properly after
the compose window is moved. If I enter the email address before moving
the window, it works properly.

To reproduce (hopefully) :

Select 'New' email. Move new compose window with mouse. Start to enter
an email address that is ambiguous in first 2-3 characters.

Behavior seen:

After the first couple of characters, autocomplete selects one of the
matching addresses immediately, not allowing user to select from
potential matches.

[Bug 128803] Re: [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup

2007-11-15 Thread sweetsinse
ok.

i have been restarting my computer all day testing different
configurations and looking at many, many...many post-gdm bootcharts...
in fact i triggered 2 'force checks' on my laptop so i rebooted at least
60 times haha

anyway, i have a few interesting things to report. i am running Gutsy
final with all updates as of 10 minutes ago.

before i say anything about compiz/etc., i wanted to ask/point out a few
things.

first, while looking into this problem i noticed others having their gui
desktop completely freeze after enabling/disabling certain startup apps
and then attempting to press the logout button; additionally, some
experienced this after mysterious errors earlier in the day but did not
notice a problem until they tried to log out. i encountered this very
thing when attempting to barebone my session down to essentials and
pinpoint this 'slow' boot reason. i disabled all plugins to compiz
using CCSM, except 'dbus' and 'workarounds'--additionally i disabled ALL
startup options in PreferencesSessions (i will brief upon another
possible bug regarding this in a moment). under this config i still got
a brief moment (always2sec) of gnome-panels before everything goes
black for 15-20 seconds. HOWEVER, when i tried to reboot using the
logout button, my computer locked up. the source of the problem was due
to 'Power Manager' being disabled in PreferencesSessions. my guess is
the logout button is trying to query said program to try and determine
if 'hibernate' or 'suspend' should be an available option on the logout
screen. this bug is reproducible simply by disabling 'Power Manager'
under PreferencesSessions, rebooting, and attempting to log out using
the gui button.

second, even though i had disabled ALL startup apps except 'Power
Manager' , bootcharts would sometimes show these apps initiating. this
may have been because i hard reset my laptop the time before because of
the logout bug i described above. also i could not figure out how to
disable the deskbar applet at all, but i am confident this has nothing
to do with our issues.

third, not related but someone might want to file a bug rep. in the
appropriate place, nm-applet will occasionally place the 'Wireless key
needed' dialog on the desktop of another user logged in, instead of the
current user. i was logged in as a regular/desktop user and the dialog
appeared on the poweruser that was logged in. i had to switch users to
enter the WEP key.

fourth, i noticed this EVERY time in compiz and only once with metacity;
xsession will try and initialize gnome-volume-manager and gnome-power-manager
only to by terminated within less than a second and reinitialized by either
init or getty. bootchart:
http://sweetsinsemilla.googlepages.com/compizdbus-workarounds-pwrMAN-slow_a.png
which leads to my final ?'ion.

fifth, why do some bootcharts show init starting many gnome-* apps, and other
show getty? i viewed subsequent charts and there appeared to be no reason for
the swapping...not sure the repercussions of this. lastly,
gnome-settings-daemon and gnome-vfs-daemon will sometimes be initialized by
dbus-daemon, other times by getty, and still others by init... does this even
matter? this behaving was very sporadic in compiz but very consistent with
metacity. some bootcharts:
metacity:
http://sweetsinsemilla.googlepages.com/metacity-pwrMAN-quick_and_nofreeze.png
http://sweetsinsemilla.googlepages.com/metacity-noapps-quick_but_freeze.png
http://sweetsinsemilla.googlepages.com/gutsy-20071115-2.png
compiz:
http://sweetsinsemilla.googlepages.com/compizdefault_plugins-pwrMAN-slow_an.png
http://sweetsinsemilla.googlepages.com/gutsy-20071115-7.png
(see bootchart @ #4)

IN SHORT(kinda): i discovered many others to be having problems with the
ubuntu package of compiz. i think the wrapper script 'compiz' is
sending the wrong params to 'compiz.real'. i had no problems whatsoever
when using metacity, with the exception of the logout bug, but that is
independent of the window manager. all bootcharts showed the same boot
times for both metacity and compiz (compiz a few sec longer for obvious
reasons). basically, all my apps were loading and my desktop was
there, i just couldnt see it until something 'snapped' it back, about
the time it was completely loaded. the reason the gnome-panels showed
for a brief period was because the window manager (compiz.real) had not
yet been started. notice on that bootchart above, compiz.real starts
less than 2 seconds after gnome-panel. i think this may be the problem
for everyones 'slow startup'. its not really slow, compiz.real is being
mis configured by the wrapper script (compiz) or something along that
line, and the gui environment is temporarily killed when compiz.real is
actualy initiated.

sorry for the lengthy post; i want to solve this ;)

[Bug 148701] Re: Search function in File browser does not function

2007-11-15 Thread pt123
How could this be rated as low priority.

It is using Tracker's results when it shouldn't be.
There needs to be an option to let Nautilus not use tracker

If I navigate to a folder and then do a search all I want is results
within the folder.

This is annoying before you could navigate to the /usr/share/icons
folder

and search for contact-new.png and you will get all the varieties of
it in thumbnails.

With this Tracker search you can't expect us to index our root folder.

Also if you search for a general term like you .jpg you will get a
zillion results. While with the old search it was specific to a folder.

This used to be on feature that Ubuntu excelled over XP now its worse,
and useless.

[Bug 158941] Re: can't browse jamendo collection from rhythmbox plugin

2007-11-15 Thread netztier
Both my 7.04 and 7.10 installations suffered from this same problem:
stuck on the Jamendo Splash screen. To implement the patch as outlined
above, I had to:

- delete /usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins/jamendo/JamendoSource.pyc
- patch JamendoSpurce.py as outlined above (the line numer on 7.04 was slightly
different).
- run rhythmbox with sudo or gksu (so that the new JamendoSource.pyc) could be
created in /usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins/jamendo/
- restart rhythmbox as user.

And now the plugin works on both 7.04 and 7.10.

thanks for the hint - but it's something that should be fixed.

regards

Marc

[Bug 159401] Re: Inbox shows no messages - inbox is not empty

2007-11-15 Thread Antti P Miettinen
I just made a fresh gutsy install. I'm using the evolution-exchange to
connect to my exchange inbox. For me the exchange inbox started showing
empty very shortly after I had configured my account. I cleared avay my
~/.evolution directory and this made the messages in inbox visible
again, but they disappeared again (probably upon the first new mail
check?). After this I only cleared the ~/.evolution/mail/exchange
directory and so far the messages in my inbox have remained visible.

[Bug 77138] Re: gtkdoc-fixxref broken by compressed documentation

2007-11-15 Thread Loïc Minier
@Mathias: Indeed, probably most index.sgml.gz are not on the live CDs,
it's just that the tool by default will compress most files and we need
to specifically exclude index.sgml by hand. The live CD example was one
of why we need to save space and compress files below /usr/share/doc by
default.

Concerning gnome-dbg and gnome-doc: first, please file a separate bug;
second, there's a gnome-dbg and by pure coincidence we also discussed a
gnome-doc meta package recently on #gnome-debian (where the Debian
packaging of GNOME packages is often discussed). I think this makes
sense, and we might add such a meta package soon.

[Bug 162950] Totem crashes on close in gutsy with X error

2007-11-15 Thread David Benjamin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

In Gutsy, totem crashes on close.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open totem from a terminal
2. Do anything... or nothing
3. Close totem

Results:
The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 277 error_code 8 request_code 141 minor_code 13)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Running through a debugger doesn't give anything useful, and I see no
additional package to download the stripped debug symbols. (Might be
useful to consider providing such packages if possible. They're useful
for a lot of things.)

My guess is that this is related to the video overlay as Gutsy also
seems to have considerable problems with that. (The contrast setting
gets set to zero, and I have to manually eyeball it to find the correct
setting. Will file a report when I narrow down the exact triggers of the
problem.)

My graphics device is an integrated Intel chip:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and
945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS,
943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML
Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

I am running an up-to-date Gutsy install that was upgraded from Feisty
with no totem or graphics-related modifications.

This error did not occur in Ubuntu Feisty.

[Bug 162967] new OK / cancel / apply icons look fuzzy

2007-11-15 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

I originally filed this bug in Bugzilla
(http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460277) but was advised to
open an Ubuntu bug:

For some reason, the new stock OK / cancel / apply stock icons look fuzzy on
toolbars and popup menus, as you can see in the following images taken from
Rhythmbox, Synaptic and Deluge:

http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/9521/rhythmboxse9.png
http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/8906/rhythmbox2ut2.png
http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/2585/synapticju9.png
http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/6223/delugefb7.png

However, they look fine in buttons:

http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/3826/preferencesss3.png

What could the cause be? Maybe they're missing some necessary sizes?

Jakub Steiner replied:

the icons only come in the rather odd gtk-button size. 20x20px

So I added the missing sizes:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=93902action=view

They just have to be added to the icon stock to fix the bug.

[Bug 125179] Re: when vino is running for several hours, performance degrades, making xorg to eat up cpu usage

2007-11-15 Thread steve hardy
Hi,

I have pretty much this exact same fault with Ubuntu Gusty, as soon as a
client (another Ubuntu Gusty machine) connects to the server, Xorg uses
near 100% CPU and performance is terrible - the server machine grinds to
a halt, and the client machine's remote desktop is sluggish.

The machines are two laptops, the server simply grinds to a halt as
soon as the client connects via vncviewer.

The problem defintely appears related to vino-server : As soon as it
starts handling a client request, the Xorg CPU utilization goes through
the roof.

[Bug 162987] Rhythmbox has discontinuous sound when using crossfading

2007-11-15 Thread Richard Sonnenfeld
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

There is a recent bug for which selecting Edit/Preferences/Playback/Use
crossfading backend was the cure.

In this case, crossfading was the problem. I had not been using it, thought it
sounded like fun and
selected it. The next time I started Rhythmbox, I got 0.1 sec bursts of sound
followed by 0.9 sec bursts
of silence.

I really don't mind that I can't use cross-fading -- and it may even be
specific to my Lenovo T61
(there were known audio problems w/ these machines though they are indeed fixed
in Fiesty and Gutsy -- which
is why I upgraded.) but wanted to report it.

[Bug 58898] Re: can't print in landscape mode even when the print preview is correct

2007-11-15 Thread Andreas Guelzow
Jérôme: your description of choosing landscape sounds like a 1.6.x or
early 1.7x version of Gnumeric. In those versions printing in landscape
was a gamble that usually did not pay off.

In recent versions 1.7.x (I think 1.7.10 and later), to print landscape:

select page-setup
click on Change paper type
this opens a second dialog in which you can choose the orientation via radio
buttons.

In these recent versions of Gnumeric the landscape printing trouble
should be gone! (If it isn't, let me know and it will be a priority to
fix it.)

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 111257 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/111257

I get this problem too.

Running Gutsy, with an ATI X1900. It worked ok in the 64-bit version
strangely, but not the 32-bit version. I did however have the very
latest 8.42 ATI drivers installed with the 64-bit version, whereas I'm
no currently running via the ones in the repo.

(totem:9794): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_bookmark_file_get_size: assertion `bookmark
!= NULL' failed
The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 42 error_code 8 request_code 141 minor_code 14)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 162831] system preference sessions unchecked items still appear in session file

2007-11-15 Thread Frodon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Problem :
When you open the system preference sessions windows and uncheck the items
you don't need (typical example is bluetooth applet for those who don't have
bluetooth) this has no effect on your session file and all the items are still
launched.

Reproduce this :
Go to system preference sessions, uncheck bluetooth applet and save your
session (with gnome-session-save command for instance) then open your
.gnome2/session file you will see that bluetooth applet is still launched.

Where it becomes annoying :
Many users are experiencing long login time and loading things you don't need
despites you unchecked the corresponding items correctly can be really
frustrating.

[Bug 155390] Gutsy, Volume applet shows mute icon momentarily while changing volume

2007-11-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This is the bug in Gutsy, package is Volume applet.

While changing the volume using volume applet, volume applet momentarily
shows the mute icon even when the sound is not set 0. Only mute icon is
shown, sound is not actually muted.

Now even if you slightly change the volume, volume applet displays the
correct icon. This happened when I was changing the volume using mouse
scroll.

  请您输入任何资料,在英语请即使你的英语不是很好(你可以总是使用translate.google.com如有必要)

it would be helpful if you could find a way in which your system
systematically crashes and then report how you get the crash.

if this is not possible can you try with the following option to eliminate
pango as a source for your problems

start firefox in a terminal by typing the following :

 export MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1

[Bug 27014] Re: evolution bug, Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync

2007-11-15 Thread ManuP
rafikid's trick worked for me too.

i guess, that the error occured could be because of one of these two
reasons:

1. i moved from one machine to another. no problem that far. but the
DEFAULT or at least the last selected directory in which i saved a
file (from mail attachment) didnt exist on the other machine!

or 2. something happend to the list of mails i already downloaded. I let
all emails on the server for about 50 days after downloading. Maybe the
backup didnt include this list.

I rather think the first point.

can anyone agree?
