[Bug 690989] [NEW] Sudoku currently does not have a unique solution

2010-12-16 Thread Christoff Erasmus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

Hello,

Per my understanding of Sudo Puzzles, each puzzle should only have one correct
answer (Unique Solution).
If there is more than one solution the puzzle is considered not properly
formed.

On a personal level I feel that its very frustrating that the Sudoku
puzzles comes to a point where I have to Quess which number to pick,
as this is not Logical. And Soduko is suppose to be a logical game.

Please refer to:
* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudoku
* http://www.dailysudoku.com/sudoku/faq.shtml

Also refer to my attachement of a game I can not complete with out
guessing.

Request:
Please fix the Sudoku that comes with Ubuntu to allow me to Force it to give me
only Properly Formed one solution puzzles.

[Bug 685785] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in __libc_free()

2010-12-16 Thread Matt Zimmerman
Two other symptoms I've seen which may be related:

X Error of failed request: XI_BadDevice (invalid Device parameter)
  Major opcode of failed request: 141 (XInputExtension)
  Minor opcode of failed request: 37 (X_ChangeDeviceProperty)
  Device id in failed request: 0x17
  Serial number of failed request: 1476
  Current serial number in output stream: 1477

The above was output by gnome-settings-daemon while it was running in
the background attached to a terminal.

** (gnome-settings-daemon:1869): WARNING **: Connection failed,
reconnecting...

The above was found in ~/.xsession-errors, adjacent to update-notifier's
checking for valid crashreport now indicating a crash happened around
the same time (though it may or may not have been gnome-settings-
daemon).

[Bug 629258] Re: Battery life estimation never comes around

2010-12-16 Thread David Kastrup
I think one problem is that the kernel does not propagate the discharge
information to the /sys architecture. If I look at
/proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state
I can read
present: yes
capacity state:  ok
charging state:  charging
present rate:26018 mW
remaining capacity:  3800 mWh
present voltage: 10637 mV

But the rate is nowhere to be found in /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/ and
it would appear that the battery applet is looking there now.

This is a Thinkpad T41 I am using, by the way.

usermod always fails when trying to change the home for an active user.
This is very reasonable since many files are likely to be open, so

Selecting the Alt and Meta are on the Alt keys option in Keyboard

/sys/class/power_supply/BAT1/current_now always contains 0

/proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state contains:
present: yes
capacity state:  ok
charging state:  charged
present rate:0 mA
remaining capacity:  5100 mAh
present voltage: 11100 mV

Does this mean the kernel doesn't get the right battery value?

[Bug 535602] [NEW] adding acl option to fstab affects the gnome gui behavior

2010-12-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala.

As I would like to add acl support everytime a partition is mounted by
any user, I tried to add acl option to fstab by adding the following
line:

UUID=580214b3-c7b1-4d3e-bc91-acb1c08d4793/media/dataext3
acl,users,noauto,errors=remount-ro01

but this affects the gnome gui behavior.

Behavior of the gnome gui before adding the fstab line:
1. No mountig point (folder named data) is required under the media folder to
mount the device; once mounted by clicking on the upper menu Places data, you
will find a folder named *data* under the media folder (containing the mounted
device) which will be automatically deleted after unmounting the device by
right-click on its desktop icon and selecting *unmount*.
2. The name of this not-removable device labeled *data* is listed only once
under the upper menu Places and clicking on it will produce an *authentication
required* to mount it.

Behavior of the gnome gui after adding the fstab line:
1. Clicking on the menu Places data will produce an error like

Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
mount: mount point /media/data does not exist

until a folder is created under the media folder to be used as mounting point.
This folder used as mounting point won't be deleted after unmounting the
device by right-click on its desktop icon and selecting *unmount*.
2. For the presence of this folder (mount point) the name of *data* will be
listed twice under the upper menu Places and clicking on one of them will
produce to mount directly the device without the *authentication required*.

2010-12-16 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should
be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that affects many
people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of

For some people the battery is BAT0, and for others it's BAT1. I'm not

one of those paths won't even exist. As far as I know, current_now will
always be there if the battery directory is there.

[Bug 629258] Re: Battery life estimation never comes around

2010-12-16 Thread David Kastrup
No, there is no current_now. Sorry, I should have mentioned that I am
using natty currently and thus am in the wrong place to report the bug.
Anyway, I get

ls /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/
alarmenergy_full_design  power  status  uevent
cycle_count  energy_now  power_now  subsystem   voltage_min_design
device   manufacturerpresenttechnology  voltage_now
energy_full  model_name  serial_number  type

So there is power_now and energy_now, and power_now seems to carry
the right values. If I take a look at the strings in
/usr/lib/upower/upowerd however, it would rather appear that upowerd is
instead looking for charge_now.

So it would seem that we have a discrepancy between the kernel file
name, and what upowerd is looking for.

I have no idea what the discrepancy (if any) in Maverick would be.

Looks like I am going to patch the upowerd binary as a first measure.

[Bug 451673] Re: Untranslated Yelp main page (Ubuntu Help Center)

2010-12-16 Thread Kyle Nitzsche
David P. Thank you for providing the translations.

I used them in a project as follows:

I created a patch that essentially is those translations dropped in the
po directory.

There is one issue: Assistive Tools is not in any po file or the pot,
and I was not immediately sure how to update them from source. (Indeed
there source references are to files that don't exists (such as
data/toc.xml.in.h) and must be generated. However, I needed that string
translated for zh_CN and so I manually added it to the po file with a
translation provided by a colleague. This is most certainly not
absolutely correct).

Attached find the patch.

On a side note, I found that if install-info package is not installed,
yelp fails to launch the Ubuntu Help Center - it terminates with
segfault. I thus added install-info as a depends to my version, but this
is not in the patch, naturally, since it is in debian/control.

[Bug 594351] Re: summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync

2010-12-16 Thread Romano Giannetti
Well, I still have the problem in Maverick for my mbox folders. On the
other hand, I can have evolution working again simply by stopping it
(exit the program and then, to be sure, issue evolution --force-
shutdown) and then deleting the folders.db file in the mbox directory.

It's a bit of an hassle, but not a disaster. If evolution simply rebuild
the folders.db file each time a mismatch happens, I will never notice
it... On the good side, I never had any problem with POP or IMAP
folders. Just with locally-feeded (by fetchamail and procmail) mbox
folders.

I believe that particular string is Ubuntu-specific and comes from
somewhere else (gnome-user-docs or ubuntu-docs?), so you might need to
pull the translations from there. Have a look at the existing patches in
the package, I thought they'd be there already.

You might want to ask seb128 for the details, IIRC he's been doing the
yelp translation updates in the past.

2010-12-16 Thread Owais Lone
Whoever implements this (IF), please bind the trigger to super key
release instead of press. that way other apps (Do/Synapse) can still
bind to it unlike Gnome-Shell.

But it is sad that the native apps are almoust useless with widespread windows

Public bug reported:

When my bluetooth keyboard goes into idle mode (because I haven't used it in

[Bug 691232] [NEW] bluetooth pairing erroneously prompts for PIN

2010-12-16 Thread Michael Lovett
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gconf

In Ubuntu 10:10:
I'm trying to pair a microsoft 6000 bluetooth keyboard. After I enter the
confirmation code, 99% of the time I'm then prompted with a dialog saying the
device wants to pair with the system and would I enter a PIN.

I have tried every option on the PIN menu and none of them result in a
working keyboard :(

Once in a great while, I do not get prompted for the PIN and then the
keyboard will work ok.

Under Ubuntu 9.x, I was not prompted for a PIN. THe pairing simply
worked the first time.

Right, people, line up your patches and form an orderly queue. Do the
fighting between trigger/release and figure out what the consensus is
going to be and then when you have the solution I'll try and force this
through; this appears to be 4.5 years old (9 releases!) and about time
we fixed it going forward.

Unfortunately, I am not sure which packgace is used to show xcf files.
Here is the output of the command you mentioned.

 Title:
  nautilus crashes when tries to show a thumbnail of an xcf.bz2 file

 Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

 Bug description:
  Binary package hint: nautilus

 Hello, I use Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook edition and have a problem. I use GIMP as
 my primary image editing software and mostly like to compress my works (xcf
 files) to make them smaller. Anyways, when I save my file as xcf.bz2 in Gimp
 to my home directory or somewhere else, my nautilus crashes while trying to
 show thumbnail of the file. I think there might be a problem on this feature
 of nautilus. However, if I save my work as xcf.gz or solely xcf, no problem
 occurs.

 Thanks for your interest.

[Bug 451673] Re: Untranslated Yelp main page (Ubuntu Help Center)

2010-12-16 Thread Kyle Nitzsche
Yes David.

On further investigation, I think there are some packaging issues around
Assistive Tools that prevent this topic from being dislayed localized
in Maverick.

In short, I think the Ubuntu gnome language packs do not install the
localized Assistive Tools content, which is a gnome-user-guide topic.

Here's how it looks to me.

Yelp looks for localized content here:
/usr/share/gnome/help/TOPIC/LANG/

In Ubuntu, there are links installed there that point to the following location:
/usr/share/gnome/help-langpack/TOPIC/LANG

So yelp tries to open files where it expects them but actually ends up
opening files that exist in another location because of the links.

A closer look. First I'l show a topic that works, then show this topic,
which is broken, for comparisoon.

The TOPIC that works is 'newtoubuntu' and the LANG is zh_CN.

The newtoubuntu LINK is installed by ubuntu-docs package:

$ ls -alh  /usr/share/gnome/help/newtoubuntu/zh_CN/newtoubuntu.xml lrwxrwxrwx 1
root root 64 2010-12-14 14:26
/usr/share/gnome/help/newtoubuntu/zh_CN/newtoubuntu.xml -
/usr/share/gnome/help-langpack/newtoubuntu/zh_CN/newtoubuntu.xml
$ dpkg -S  /usr/share/gnome/help/newtoubuntu/zh_CN/newtoubuntu.xml
ubuntu-docs: /usr/share/gnome/help/newtoubuntu/zh_CN/newtoubuntu.xml

The newtoubuntu LINK TARGET is installed by language-pack-gnome-zh-hans-
base:

$ ls -alh  /usr/share/gnome/help-langpack/newtoubuntu/zh_CN/newtoubuntu.xml
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 49K 2010-09-20 04:59
/usr/share/gnome/help-langpack/newtoubuntu/zh_CN/newtoubuntu.xml
$ dpkg -S  /usr/share/gnome/help-langpack/newtoubuntu/zh_CN/newtoubuntu.xml
language-pack-gnome-zh-hans-base:
/usr/share/gnome/help-langpack/newtoubuntu/zh_CN/newtoubuntu.xml

This works. That is, one sees localized New to Ubuntu on the front
page of the Ubuntu Help Center displayed in yelp.

Now lets look at broken TOPIC gnome-access-guide (Assisitive Tools).

The gnome-access-guide LINK is installed by gnome-user-guide-zh package:

$ ls -alh
/usr/share/gnome/help/gnome-access-guide/zh_CN/gnome-access-guide.xmllrwxrwxrwx
1 root root 78 2010-12-16 14:45
/usr/share/gnome/help/gnome-access-guide/zh_CN/gnome-access-guide.xml -
/usr/share/gnome/help-langpack/gnome-access-guide/zh_CN/gnome-access-guide.xml
$ dpkg -S /usr/share/gnome/help/gnome-access-guide/zh_CN/gnome-access-guide.xml
gnome-user-guide-zh:
/usr/share/gnome/help/gnome-access-guide/zh_CN/gnome-access-guide.xml

The gnome-access-guide LINK TARGET is not installed by ANY package:

$ dpkg -S
/usr/share/gnome/help-langpack/gnome-access-guide/zh_CN/gnome-access-guide.xml
dpkg:
/usr/share/gnome/help-langpack/gnome-access-guide/zh_CN/gnome-access-guide.xml
not found.
$ cd /usr/share/gnome/help-langpack/gnome-access-guide/zh_CN/
bash: cd: /usr/share/gnome/help-langpack/gnome-access-guide/zh_CN/: No such
file or directory
$ cd /usr/share/gnome/help-langpack/gnome-access-guide/
bash: cd: /usr/share/gnome/help-langpack/gnome-access-guide/: No such file or
directory
$ cd /usr/share/gnome/help-langpack/

Even though I have what would seem to be the right lang packs installed:
$ apt-cache policy language-pack-gnome-zh
language-pack-gnome-zh:
  Installed: 1:10.04+20091218
  Candidate: 1:10.04+20091218
  Version table:
 *** 1:10.04+20091218 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
$ apt-cache policy language-pack-gnome-zh-hans
language-pack-gnome-zh-hans:
  Installed: 1:10.10+20100930
  Candidate: 1:10.10+20100930
  Version table:
 *** 1:10.10+20100930 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
$ apt-cache policy language-pack-gnome-zh-hans-base
language-pack-gnome-zh-hans-base:
  Installed: 1:10.10+20100930
  Candidate: 1:10.10+20100930

 *** 1:10.10+20100930 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main amd64 Packages

IN SUMMARY: the lang packs are not installing the localized gnome content for
at least this topic.

2010-12-16 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Hmm, ok, could you try the following command?
gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/thumbnailers  thumbnailers.txt

This generates the file thumbnailers.txt in the current directory, could you
attach this to the bug report?
When you get the crash, are there any error messages in the file
~/.xsession-errors ?
