[Bug 1280300] Re: Desktop contents displayed on resume, before lock screen is shown

2016-12-01 Thread Seth Arnold
gethin, that seems plausibly like it could suffer from the same problems
as #49579 -- if you have a menu open or a virtualbox window to a guest
or similar, the screensaver 'lock' command may not be able to lock the
display.

That's why we recommend using the lock interface in the menus or
keyboard shortcuts, because both will either succeed easily or visibly
fail before you make the next step manually.

Thanks

Bug #167 and bug #1574586 are for adding license information and

[Bug 1644498] Re: apt-get update returns "AppStream cache update completed, but some metadata was ignored due to errors." periodically

2016-12-01 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Thomas, or anyone else affected,

Accepted appstream into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/appstream/0.9.4-1ubuntu2 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1645927] Re: totem video player will not start, I have tried re-installing but no luck

2016-12-01 Thread Seth Arnold
Note that your Dependencies.txt reports at least one file looks
different than expected:

libgbm1 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.6 [modified: usr/lib/i386-linux-
gnu/libgbm.so.1.0.0]

sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgbm1 would probably be a good idea.

It might not hurt to run sudo debsums -c and see what other files from
packages may be corrupted.

Thanks

2016-12-01 Thread felikst
Hi, thanks for your reply.
I forgot to add, I am using the Gnome session flashback session manager
desktop

When I try to start Totem video player from the menu I get a small circular
dot about 3mm accross that appears to be turning on the spot to indicate
the system is trying to start the player, it then stops without launching,
This is the output from the terminal when trying to launch it there;
liks@desktop:~$ totem
totem: error while loading shared libraries: libwayland-egl.so.1: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory

Thanks in advance for any help :)

I would not report it upstream because when gnome-software is built with

to Ubuntu's apt backend.

[Bug 1645927] Re: totem video player will not start, I have tried re-installing but no luck

2016-12-01 Thread Tyler Hicks
Hello and thanks for the bug report.

Totem started up just fine for me in an up-to-date, pristine 14.04 i386
VM so more information will be needed.

Can you tell us how you're attempting to launch totem and what, if
anything, you see? If you start totem from the command line, what is
printed to the terminal?

2016-12-01 Thread Till Kamppeter
Adding systemd task, as cupsd itself shuts down correctly independent of
the presence or absence of the keepalive file. There must be some
problem in systemd's shutdown process.

For the systemd experts/maintainers: See comment #18 and comment #21 for
a reproducer and some explanation of what is happening.

[Bug 1280300] Re: Desktop contents displayed on resume, before lock screen is shown

2016-12-01 Thread gethin
Another workaround that I used for Cinnamon. I can't imagine it would be
too much trouble to adapt it to other window managers:

1. Use dconf-editor to change the button-suspend action at org>cinnamon
>settings-daemon>plugins>power to 'nothing' (you could also amend lid-
close-ac-action and lid-close-battery-action as well if you're using a
laptop).

2. Save the following script to a convenient location (it locks the
screen, then suspends):

#!/bin/bash
cinnamon-screensaver-command -l
systemctl suspend

3. Use the System Settings app (cinnamon-settings) to create a custom
keybinding for the sleep key that points to the script.

After this it behaves as it should. You can see the lock screen pop up
briefly before it goes to sleep, which is reassuring.

2016-12-01 Thread gethin
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1280300 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1280300

This is a really bad issue, and frankly makes Linux security look like a
bit of a joke. This is what I did to get around it for the suspend key
on my desktop:

1. Use dconf-editor to change the button-suspend action at org>cinnamon
>settings-daemon>plugins>power to 'nothing' (you could also amend lid-
close-ac-action and lid-close-bettery-action as well if you're using a
laptop).

2. Save the following script to a convenient location (also works with
gnome-screensaver-command):

#!/bin/bash
cinnamon-screensaver-command -l
systemctl suspend

3. Use the System Settings app to create a custom keybinding for the
sleep key that points to my script.

After this it behaves as it should. You can see the lock screen pop up
briefly before it goes to sleep, which is reassuring.

[Bug 1646403] [NEW] Erro message when clicking "Windows Network" needs to be improved

2016-12-01 Thread David D Lowe
Public bug reported:

After opening Files, clicking "Other locations" in the sidebar, and
clicking the Windows Network icon, I get an error dialog, saying:

> Unable to access location
>
> Failed to retrieve share list from server: No such file or directory

Regardless of what is causing the error, there needs to be a better
error message. I got the same error message before installing `samba`
and now I still get it. The error message should help me discover what
is happening and how to fix it.

[Bug 1646388] [NEW] Cannot turn on location: it switches back to off by itself

2016-12-01 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Public bug reported:

Location was not working on my newly acquired Meizu pro 5.

I went to system-settings -> Security & Privacy -> Location and switched on the
GPS. But then, when navigating back to the Security & Privacy page, the
location was shown as off (and indeed, there was no location icon in the
indicator).
I've repeated it several times, also exiting from the system-settings to make
sure it was not a problem in the client, but that didn't help: the settings was
always being reset to "off".

I also run "dbus-monitor --session" on the terminal and I could see that
there was some activity around the location (see the attachment).

I eventually stopped the ubuntu-location-service service and restarted
it, and things started working.

[Bug 1290310] Re: nautilus does not start

2016-12-01 Thread Valentas
I got this after some memory-intensive computation (when with a lot of
cache operations, the system had been considerably slower for a while).
