It might be uglier than I have reported a short while ago... since then,

Having the same problem with Lucid Beta 1 using nvidia v96 driver.
The only way I can start x and boot to gnome desktop is to bypass gdm
altogether.
Clearly it has sometjhing to do with the way gdm interacts with said
nvidia graphics.

Using local time (hwclock and date show the same time (Germany)), an

To reproduce the main issue in Lucid:
1. Right click the top panel and select New Panel. Nothing seems to happen.
2. Right click the top panel and select Add to Panel... and add e.g. the

This has been fixed upstream now:
Fixed in commit 044ed3c7. The Magnatune catalogue has 2 separate genre tags.
One is 'mp3genre', which we were using before. That one has the numbers in it.

Ok, I solved my problem.
After seeing the above message (#93) I over-wrote the
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/ir file in my Lucid machine with one copied
over from a Karmic machine and the error message has gone away. I can
use both gb-en and ir layouts now! So the ir file in Lucid is
broken and
Just got the same crash. In my case, I was opening two huge (~7MB each)
SQL dumps simultaneously (I wanted to perform a diff). I didn't interact
at all with gedit, as far as I can tell, the SQL dumps where being
opened/parsed by gedit when the crash occurred.

This bug has been fixed. Is anyone still facing this bug without compiz? Set
the visual effect to none and check if it still steals focus, it doesnt here.
