I made that change, then booted 11 times. 4 of the 11 boots were
successful. The other 7 times I was left looking at a blank screen or
the Ubuntu logo. In those cases I was able to switch to virtual
terminal 1 and log in in text mode. I never once ended up in low-
graphics mode with the

Same behavior on raring with nvidia drivers 304.84, but it's not only a
blank screen: the video output if switched off. Please note that the tty
is working underneath, if I login and type reboot, it works... so it

No sound with Sound Blaster Z
I use Ubuntu 12.04 and have the same problem. I have set Pidgin as a startup
application, but after startup it quits without any sign of crash report.
If it is important i have also Transmission, Indicator-weather and Nvidia
X-Server settings set to start on startup. I have also skype4pidgin

Thunderbird (under Windows!), because of its conversation-view
capabilities, and wanted it to be used by some computer-illiterates as

I have also been experiencing thunderbird sometimes consuming 100% cpu.
In my case I have a suspicion that it may be related to what appears to
be a bug in ibus that I have reported here:
