I applied the patch to kernel 3.10.3 and it made no discernible
difference. But that patch is just supposed to fix backlight problems,
right? I don't think my display gets re-enabled at all. I don't see

There have been several newer versions of Chromium since the original
bug report.
This is no longer a problem in Version 28.0.1500.71 Ubuntu 13.04
(28.0.1500.71-0ubuntu1.13.04.1).
I no longer use Ubuntu 12.10 release.

I've created the following script which does the necessary - I've called
it enabletcp and placed it in /etc/lightdm:
