[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1629530] [NEW] I installed a lubuntu 16.04 and connected to my home network during install but have not been able to successfully connect after installing on my american megeat
Public bug reported: I'm using a belkin wireless usb adapter to connect to the internet. It worked fine when installing from usb. Once I installed the OS to the computer I could see my home network but could not connect to it. It would ask for the password, I entered it, and it would ask again, and again, never connecting. If I use my cell phone as a hot spot I connect instantly. I've spent more than an hour on the phone with my ISP, they don't think it's them, neither do I. I'm using the same adapter on another computer also running lubuntu and it works fine. I don't know if it's related but I can't shutdown my computer without pressing the power button. I've tried to power off from the terminal, I've tried adding acpi=force to /etc/default/grub among numerous other recommendations I've found online. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1629545] [NEW] Selecting a known Hidden Wi-Fi Network does not work: "Connect" button stays disabled
Public bug reported: When i try to reconnect a previously connected Hidden Wi-Fi Network with WPA authentication, i cannot: the "Connect" button remains disabled ("grayed out"). I attach a dialog screenshot. This happens under Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.1 and NixOS 16.03 with GNOME 3 desktop. I am not completely certain, but i think i remember a similar behaviour under Debian (or possible under another version of Ubuntu?), except that at the point where the connection dialog just sits there with a disabled Connect button, i remember a prompt for password popping up. As it is impossible to simply select and connect a previously used connection, i have to create a new one and re-enter the WPA password. In fact, there is another issue that forces me in the first place to recreate the same hidden connection over and over: normally it should connect automatically, but almost every day, after i change a few networks or restart my home DSL modem, my computer stops connecting automatically to my hidden home Wi-Fi. However, i have not yet learned to reproduce this issue, so i am not yet submitting a bug report about it. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1629546] [NEW] Mouse device grabbed after first login after boot
Public bug reported: After logging in, after boot, results in less than a minute, in a grabbed mouse device. Thus buttonpresses are ignored and I cannot switch windows. Keyboard works though. The same behaviour occurs even if using flashback and metacity. Workaround, ctrl-alt-f1 and then back to alt-f7 releases the grab. This only happens at the first login after boot. After the workaround, the system works fine. >From Xorg.0.log, locked device using Metacity and starting gnome-terminal: [ 195.580] (II) Printing all currently active device grabs: [ 195.580] Active grab 0x2e0 (xi2) on device 'Virtual core pointer' (2): [ 195.580] client pid 2566 /usr/lib/gnome-terminal/gnome-terminal-server [ 195.580] at 170392 (from passive grab) (implicit) (device thawed, state 1) [ 195.580] xi2 event mask for device 2: 0xfc71c0 [ 195.580] passive grab type 4, detail 0x0, activating key 0 [ 195.580] owner-events false, kb 1 ptr 1, confine 0, cursor 0x0 [ 195.580] (II) End list of active device grabs using default Ubuntu login and starting Chrome: [ 159.640] (II) Printing all currently active device grabs: [ 159.640] Active grab 0x300 (core) on device 'Virtual core pointer' (2): [ 159.640] client pid 2086 compiz [ 159.640] at 84877 (from passive grab) (implicit) (device thawed, state 1) [ 159.640] core event mask 0x62207f [ 159.640] passive grab type 4, detail 0x0, activating key 0 [ 159.640] owner-events false, kb 1 ptr 1, confine 0, cursor 0x0 [ 159.640] Active grab 0x320 (xi2) on device 'Logitech USB Laser Mouse' (13): [ 159.640] client pid 2303 /opt/google/chrome/chrome [ 159.640] at 117635 (from passive grab) (implicit) (device thawed, state 1) [ 159.640] xi2 event mask for device 13: 0x7281c0 [ 159.640] passive grab type 4, detail 0x0, activating key 0 [ 159.641] owner-events false, kb 1 ptr 1, confine 0, cursor 0x0 [ 159.641] (II) End list of active device grabs ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+13ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-38.57-generic 4.4.19 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-38-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity_support_test.0: ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sat Oct 1 14:23:53 2016 DistUpgraded: 2016-08-21 16:56:50,314 DEBUG failed to SystemUnLock() (E:Inte låst) DistroCodename: xenial DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, including running git bisection searches GraphicsCard: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1629365] Re: In response of Bug #1551982
Emanuel, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, this report didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. The behavior you expected, and 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thank you for your help. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-1107 ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1629365 Title: In response of Bug #1551982 Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Mr Scott Stensland, Thanks for your interest in this issue. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1618886] Re: unity-gtk-module.service is racy; session services don't stop if session terminates
> To fix that, something like comment #3 is needed. Such as looping over all 'active' units that are PartOf graphical-session.target and stopping them all. I think we would only need to "systemctl stop graphical-session.target" for this, otherwise a unit forgets the PartOf= and that loop would not work anyway. > gnome-session needs a fix to its ExecStopPost to not kill the one we just started. This is similar to waiting for "deactivating" units after *-session.target goes down. On the systemd sprint we just figured out a better scheme for this which solves that waiting, does not require this session ID tracking, and also gets rid of the manual starting of graphical-session-pre.target: Eventually we just want to declare in *-session.target that it comes After=graphical-session-pre.target and have this propagate to the dependencies (https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/3750). Until then we can just have a mini-generator do this for us. After we have the Requires/After =graphical-session-pre.target, then "systemctl stop graphical-session- pre.target" properly blocks until all "later" units are completely stopped. ** Bug watch added: github.com/systemd/systemd/issues #3750 https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/3750 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1618886 Title: unity-gtk-module.service is racy; session services don't stop if session terminates Status in gnome-session package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in unity-gtk-module package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in upstart package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Sometimes on session start unity-gtk-module.service runs too late or something, and $GTK_MODULES does not include "unity". [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1629558] [NEW] Chromium sync says service unavailible

** Changed in: gvfs (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1548841 Title: Text Menus not displaying - org.gtk.vfs.Daemon Status in gvfs package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I installed standard Ubuntu 14.04 LTS about a 3 weeks ago and everything has been working fine. After a fortnight of all working fine I installed Wine via the standard package manager and then installed a simple windows exe WBridge5 (using wine) and then ran it a couple of times using wine and all was fine. Note that this may be irrelevant. In the morning when I started my DELL Inspiron 6400 and after entering my password the standard desktop appeared without my previously set background; the file mgr appears automatically (without the recent files icon) and the following message appears: "Oops something went wrong. Unhandled error message: The name org.gtk.vfs.Daemon was not provided by any .Service files." After acknowledging the message, my programs operate but WITHOUT a text menu showing on the top menu bar. There are other minor inconveniences such as Alt+Tab doesn't work and there is no "Recent" option on the Files program and "System Settings Appearance" cannot be changed. The show stopper for me is that unless a program has a non text menu method of running a menu option, you are stuffed. This affects Libreoffice really badly. I have tried all sorts of things and most of these have been logged on askubuntu where there is more information. I remember this problem. It would only solve this specific issue if it lets us get rid of the stop or restart in the session-runner script. If you ever end up stopping gnome-keyring from within a new session then its ExecStopPost kills the upstart session of this new one that we are starting up, *not* the previous one that it was started up under. That's a mismatch vs. session and user specific semantics of upstart and systemd --user. Hmm. Maybe this is saying that we should bind ubuntu-session.target to something else - like unity7? You can't log in again with an active unity7, so in theory (if stop is propagated down to graphical-session and graphical-session-pre) there wouldn't be a need to stop/restart in the script since everything would be stopped by definition if you're trying to start unity7 again. -- Iain Lane [ i...@orangesquash.org.uk ] Debian Developer [ la...@debian.org ] Ubuntu Developer [ la...@ubuntu.com ] -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1618886 Title: unity-gtk-module.service is racy; session services don't stop if session terminates Status in gnome-session package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in unity-gtk-module package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in upstart package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Sometimes on session start unity-gtk-module.service runs too late or something, and $GTK_MODULES does not include "unity". Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 x64 and the installed version of gnome-software is 3.20.1 * I install a desktop application from a .deb package. I tried several methods (apt install, dpkg -i, xdg-open then click on install button). * After the installation, I control that the application is visible from the system: * The application appears correctly in the application list in Unity Dash * The application appears in the "Open With" menu list in Nautilus (because of registered mime types) * The package name of the application can be used as an argument of apt commands (apt show, apt remove...) and dpkg (dpkg -l, dpkg -L...) * I start gnome-software. * I click on the "installed" tab to get the list of installed applications. expected result: the freshly installed application is in the list actual result: the freshly installed application is not in the list. If I reboot my computer and start gnome-software, the installed application appears in the list. It looks like there is some kind of cache that is not refreshed at the right moment. ** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1629600 Title: Installed application from .deb does not appear unless Ubuntu is restarted Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 x64 and the installed version of gnome-software is 3.20.1 * I install a desktop application from a .deb package. I had a similar problem show up on Lubuntu 16.04 (i386). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1629607] [NEW] Privacy settings reset to default on upgrade
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Trusty 14.04 Firefox 49.0 For some time now I have noticed that every time I upgrade Firefox, my profile's privacy settings are reset to default. For a while I didn't know why they were being reset, so I put a script in a cron job (see attachment) to monitor them and alert me when they changed. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1629611] [NEW] dns server priority broken
Public bug reported: network-manager: 1.2.4-0ubuntu1 Yakkety appears to have switched back from resolved to dnsmasq, but it seems server priority/order is broken. Example: In split DNS setups, connecting to VPN will not cause us to query the DNS provided by the VPN first (or only), which should be the proper way to resolve names in that case. Say server.example.com in the public DNS resolves to a.a.a.a and in the private DNS resolves to b.b.b.b. Stuff would work from my normal internet-connection, but connection to VPN would cause stuff to misbehave. I expect to hit the b.b.b.b address but since my normal LAN DNS is being used first, I'm really hitting a.a.a.a. Please let me know how to proceed - Hopefully this can be fixed in time for release. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1629611 Title: dns server priority broken Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: network-manager: 1.2.4-0ubuntu1 Yakkety appears to have switched back from resolved to dnsmasq, but it seems server priority/order is broken. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1629620] [NEW] DNS resolver stops accepting queries
Public bug reported: After a while / after resume from suspend, the system becomes unable to respond to DNS queries, with the following output for example: $ nslookup google.com 127.0.1.1 Server: 127.0.1.1 Address:127.0.1.1#53 ** server can't find google.com: REFUSED This is on an up to date yakkety install. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1568224] Re: psmouse FingerSensingPad lost synchronization, throwing bytes away
Alan Mimms, it will help immensely if you filed a new report with the Ubuntu repository kernel (not mainline/upstream) via a terminal: ubuntu-bug linux Please feel free to subscribe me to it. For more on why this is helpful, please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1568224 Title: psmouse FingerSensingPad lost synchronization, throwing bytes away Status in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: My first bug report, I apologize if I don't do it right, and please let me know how to improve it. Asus Zenbook UX31E initially with Ubuntu 11:10, then 12.04, and then 14.04 worked great until a few weeks ago, when the trackpad became unusable (mouse jumps all over the screen and starts moving and clicking around by itself). Booting from USB with Ubuntu 16.04 beta has the same problem. Dmesg always shows the following type of errors: psmouse serio4 bad data from KBC - timeout psmouse serio4 bad data from KBC - bad parity psmouse serio4 FingerSensingPad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 3 bytes away The laptop works fine with an external USB mouse, as long as I don't accidentally touch the trackpad.
