I tried a couple of scanning programs, one of them gave a 5 char cal file, like

simple-scan did not like it either.
Another program had a gui with a calibrate function and it coughed up a
65k file, it seems to work for simple scan as well.

openjpeg, and he's been remarkably responsive to Agostino Sarubbo's

As of this date I am still experiencing this issue with updated Intel hardware
as well as current Kernel/modesetting driver and current Xorg.
The default Xorg Intel driver mode is SNA. I have tried also tried UXA
and XAA. The issue persists. I
s390x and arm skip the test so all green there isn't worth anything.
