Reporting this bug using ubuntu-bug just crashes my system if im using intel graphics, I had to switch to nvidia graphics just to file this bug report so the automatically attached log files may not be a good representation of the problem. I've attached the syslog and kern.log files below. PROBLEM: When using intel graphics: Whenever I close the laptop lid or restart / shutdown using GUI or terminal commands, it goes into a black screen with a single "_" at the top left corner, and hangs. Only long-pressing (hard reset) the power button would shut down the computer. However, when I use sudo prime-select nvidia to switch over to nvidia, everything works fine.log I have tried many things, and all do not work. I have attached the logs for /var/log/syslog and /var/log/kern.log below. Attempts so far: 1)Tried installing new intel drivers from Updated kernel to 4.8 now missing firmware warnings --> Did not work. Issue persists 2) Tried upgrading kernel from 4.8 to 4.10.15 --> Did not work. Problem got worse. Instead of the normal login screen, it gives a terminal login screen and hangs. 3) Tried the fix to nvidia-prime https://askubuntu.com/a/884506/547039, but both the poweron.sh and poweroff.sh script hangs my laptop instead. 4) Tried sudo swapoff -a && systemctl poweroff as a workaround, no avail. 5) Tried changing GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=force" Does not work either. Additional note: 'sudo lshw -C display' on intel graphics outputs PCI(sysfs) then laptop freezes. Further discussion (and the source of my understanding about this issue) upstream are here: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=805414 To summarise: GDM opens the A2DP profile for a11y purposes to allow screenreaders to output over BT audio devices. However Pulse doesn't release those devices when no audio is being played and the upshot is that once in the users session A2DP is not available for any Bluetooth audio devices, this means that you can only use the low quality profile HSP/HFP. There is a proposed workaround, but this means that a11y tools which need to output audio won't be able to use Bluetooth devices within GDM. I think that for 17.10 shipping this work-around is acceptable, and we should revisit in the 18.04 cycle to try and get a proper fix in PA. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1585084] Re: Volume notification keeps popping up constantly (the notify-OSD bubble on top-right corner)
** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1585084 Title: Volume notification keeps popping up constantly (the notify-OSD bubble on top-right corner) Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 yesterday, I did a clean install while preserving the home directory which is mounted in a separate partition. Even during the installation I had constant volume notification bubble appearing on the top-right corner of my screen, it would come and go about twice every minute. I just thought it was due to installing hardware drivers or something but the problem persisted even when I booted into the freshly installed system. I did some searching and two users reported the exact problem. And one more suggested this happens because constant disconnect and reconnect of the sound card which makes sense as the sound settings flashes briefly during every popup. Someone on IRC suggested to kill pulseaudio and thus restart it, that does not fix the issue. I also tried the Live environment thinking it might be due to some old config files in home partition (which was preserved during upgrade), but this problem happens in the live environment as well, which makes sense because it was present during installation as well. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1688018] Re: DNS server from vpn connection is not being used after network-manager upgrade to 1.2.6
1. It has been four months since this bug - it its original incarnation (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1671606) - was reported. 2. The bug is critical: it breaks security software. 3. The bug has been reported to Ubuntu, which has paid employees. 4. The bug is a regression and hence presumably not especially hard to fix. Inference from the conjunction of 1, 2 and 3: *this bug should have been fixed by now*. Yet, it has not. Nor has any explanation been provided as to why not, at least not here. Not has there been a shortage of people asking, politely, for a fix. Perhaps then a slightly more strident question is in order. To wit: **what gives?** This is the sort of unfixed major problem that drives people back to Windows and Mac OS. Hi ss900. Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Unfortunately firefox 3.6 packaged by Ubuntu 10.10 has reached end of life. See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases I've tried recreating this bug with your release and was unable to, given the information you've provided. I highly suggest upgrading to the latest release to retest. If the bug is still reproducible, please increase the verbosity of the steps to recreate in case we missed something on our end. Note, if you still can reproduce this I did find this may potentially be caused by certain addons: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/923073 so I would recommend disabling those if possible. Changes from Debian: - Update to 3.24 - 07_bookmarks.patch: Add Ubuntu default bookmarks (as seen in Firefox) - add_new_window_action.patch: Backported from 3.25, improves Unity integration a bit - ubuntu_titlebars.patch: headerbar revert when run in Unity 7 Rationale = Needed for Ubuntu to have a proper webapp feature, particularly for Amazon in the default install (LP: #1688627) The alternatives are to either 1) ship Chromium, or 2) water down the webapp feature to just be basically a bookmark which would have poor desktop integration and wouldn't really be a webapp at all, 3) or drop the webapp feature from the default install Security The most recent fixed security bug is LP: #1661805 (fixed in 16.04 LTS and up) https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/source-package/epiphany-browser https://launchpad.net/epiphany-browser/+cve epiphany-browser is far smaller than either Firefox or Chromium since most of its browser functionality (and security vulnerability) is provided by webkit2gtk. epiphany does not support HSTS https://bugzilla.gnome.org/628298 New in epiphany 3.24 is off-by-default support for integrated HTTPS Everywhere using libhttpseverywhere (not yet packaged in Debian/Ubuntu) https://git.gnome.org/browse/libhttpseverywhere Epiphany currently has no support for webextensions. NPAPI plugins are still supported. Quality assurance = The Desktop Bugs and Desktop Packages teams are already subscribed. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/epiphany-browser https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=epiphany-browser https://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=product%3A"epiphany; No autopkgtest. Tests aren't being run because of https://bugzilla.gnome.org/782246 Once that's fixed, we'll be sure to make failed tests fail the build. Dependencies There are 2 binary universe dependencies, browser-plugin-evince (for integrated PDF viewing) and libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37-gtk2 (for Flash support, but see LP: #1689313). Both of those already have their sources in main and neither is required for basic webapps. Standards compliance 3.9.8 Maintenance === - Actively developed upstream (the primary developer is paid to work on webkitgtk) https://git.gnome.org/browse/epiphany-browser dh7-style short rules, compat level 10 3.25.1 uses meson for building instead of autotools. Debian packaging uses svn, but we're hoping to convert to git this year (which will allow for Ubuntu branches): https://sources.debian.net/src/epiphany-browser/unstable/debian/ Background information == The intent here is to split epiphany-browser into 2 packages. The existing package would only contain the .desktop and appstream metadata and depend on the other package (provisionally named epiphany-browser-runtime) which would contain /usr/bin/epiphany-browser and the rest of the app. This is what Fedora does so that they can continue to have only one browser in the default install (Firefox) but still support webapps. Therefore, only epiphany-browser-runtime and epiphany-browser-data would be in main; the other epiphany-browser package would remain in universe. I intend to upload this split version to Ubuntu but I want to see if I can get feedback from Debian about the proposed package name and split first. epiphany was in main until Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic" (no MIR). You can do this in both windows and OSX so there is no reason it shouldn't be possible in Linux. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1701757] Re: 17.04 (Zesty) does not source ~/.profile for umask
Excuse me, but is it fair to rank this bug as "Low" importance? There appears to be no way to change the default umask on account of this bug. Umask setting carries privacy and security considerations depending on environment. I think it of considerable importance to at least make sure this bug is fixed in time for Ubuntu 17.10. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1701757 Title: 17.04 (Zesty) does not source ~/.profile for umask Status in gnome-session package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I have always set umask at ~/.profile and gnome-session would source this. But in Zesty, this isn't happening, and I can find no way to set a umask default of my choosing for the gnome-session. Creating a document using gedit always produces the default (unchangeable) permission represented by umask 022. If I adjust umask at ~/.bashrc, creating a document in nano or vi works to get a different umask. But Ubuntu users should be able to adjust umask for GTK3 apps (like gedit) as well. If there is a new way to set ~/.profile variables, the documentation needs to be updated to reflect this so people know how to set them. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1585084] Re: Volume notification keeps popping up constantly (the notify-OSD bubble on top-right corner)
Just upgraded to 16.04 and have the same issue. My pulseaudio version is also 1:8.0-0ubuntu3.3. I also can't apply the workaround in comment #20 because all audio sockets are in use. In case it helps: if the sound settings window (unity-control-centre sound) is open and has focus, then 'Digital Output (S/PDIF)' becomes selected at exactly the time that the indicator appears, regardless of which output device was previously selected. I can't find a way to disable (not simply mute) the S/PDIF output to see if that helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1585084 Title: Volume notification keeps popping up constantly (the notify-OSD bubble on top-right corner) Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 yesterday, I did a clean install while preserving the home directory which is mounted in a separate partition. Method to "fix": Extract /usr/share/gnome-shell/gnome-shell-theme.gresource copy in the wallpaper. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1703838] [NEW] Failure to automatically reconnect after drop - requiring manual reconnect, only successful after second try
Public bug reported: Using Ubuntu 17.04 (64 bit) Package version 1.4.4-1ubuntu3.1 This happened to me 3 times today: The connection drops and is not automatically restored, even though the network is visible in the nm-applet. Manually clicking on the network to connect, results in an animation of the nm-applet showing it's trying, but it gives up after a while and changes the icon to up\down arrows instead of the wifi sign. Clicking on it again, and selecting my network again, results in an almost instant reconnection, which implies that the computer should have known to do it automatically instead of requiring me to tell it to connect again (let alone twice). Here is the journal from a system startup: https://pastebin.com/hGrFEWiU And here is the journal from one such unsuccessful reconnect. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1703741] Re: package fonts-noto-cjk (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: sub-processo dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile retornou estado de saída de erro 2
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. Thanks in advance! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 844582] Re: "Invalid argument" when trying to scan
I had a similar problem with the default version of gscan2pdf available from the default Ubuntu 16.04 repositories. I would scan, but the error message would arrive after the scan was completed. gscan2pdf version 1.3.8. I then installed the following PPA to get the latest version, 1.8.3: sudo add-apt-repository --yes ppa:jeffreyratcliffe/ppa The problem was gone. I suggest you upgrade gscan2pdf to the latest and report your findings.
