Installed 17.04 using minimal server install CD, wanted to use
networkmanager to manage my interfaces, encountered this pesky bug. I
had removed any mention of my wired interface in
/etc/network/interfaces,
Confirm the bug with the dafault Xubuntu theme.
$ env GTK_THEME=Abiword
solves the problem, no more flickering
