make standard procedures for localization of all these parts of OOo (I

the standard process is named CWS and it is being used for may

Hi,

during the NL Meeting in Lyon, some of the NL Community
representatives brought to the attention the issue regarding
dictionaries and thesaurus they would like to see integrated into the
builds.

If I remember well we suggested the following process:

- file an issue to Pavel, cc: myself ([EMAIL PROTECTED])

yes, lingucomponent project. Please add the data needed for external form
as specified in the mail from Martin.

With this mail I would like to remind the NL Communities of the above
process. Also, I would like to emphasize that in case the dictionary
/thesaurus is under GPL license, Martin will need to request legal
approval before integration.

Legal approval/review is needed in *every* case.

OOo builds can be released and distributed only under LGPL license.

Hmm, this is not strictly true. You can grab the LGPL release and
immediately relicense it under GNU GPL only as allowed by GNU LGL license.

Simply put: we can't (yet) include GNU GPL licensed dictionaries.

   From: Charles-H.Schulz [EMAIL PROTECTED]
   Date: Thu, 29 Dec 2005 17:04:57 +0100

it is a question that, according to our guidelines, is already
answered. The inactivity of the Scottish Gaelic project has been
going on for months. After some chat with John McCreesh, it seems that
the initiative was government-funded and that as soon as the web site
was completed, the project manager lost any interest in it.

I do not think so. We had a dinner with Evan earlier this month and he is
interested and still looking for further possibilities to extend the Gaelic
project. Gaelic is semi-active Level 1 N-L project.

Nobody seems to be visiting this project either. So the guidelines and
the conventional logic tells me to close the project.

I can't comment on this as I do not agree with the guidelines here.

Pavel .. you constantly miss some things about our mailing lists.
Mailing lists are about collaboration. If one asks for help ..

If one asks you to help him buy 10 pieces of cake, will you go to the shop
for one, me for the second one etc.? You do not understand my motivation to
write such answer - read bellow, I'll try to explain it in more details.

But .. ok .. people are different and their style of communication is
different. So .. no need to discuss.

No, some people think and implement the knowledge about algorithms and
their efficiency in practice and some don't. It is not about communication
styles.

I'm not against helping Konrad.
I'm not against letting other people know how do you say something in *all
languages*.

It could be done efficiently and inefficiently. In this list, people often
work in an inefficient manner. That's all.

This time, it should have been process like this:

- Konrad sends an e-mail here and ask for help. If you want to help, send
  him privately your e-mail.

- Konrad collects answers somewhere and sends the link to it after he is
  finished.

Thus:

- positive: Konrad is happy because he has the info
- positive: people wanting to help him, can help him
- positive: people wanting to know the result know it
- negative: Konrad can receive duplicated strings

This is the same for your case. But you forgot one *important thing*
between both cases:

- people who do not want to help or people who do not want to read many
similar e-mails that are not interesting/important for them do not have
  to read *all* mails.

- even if you are interested about every language, you have received all of
  them twice

The method used thus means that *many* people had to read *many* mails
unnecessary. And *many* even includes you! You have received the
information about every language twice - once from the person who send it
to Konrad and second instance of it from Konrad itself at the end. Thus it
took a moment from your brain capacity for nothing. And this applies to us
all. We could have worked on something else in that time.

Thus it was inefficient! Thats all. No other motivation in this. This is my
last mail on this topic.

why haven't you asked me to add Greek to the community build system? Of

- regular development builds in your language

- installation sets for GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows and MacOS X (we are

What I expect from language teams:

- regular updates of GSI files

- cooperation in testing and reporting bugs

Re: [native-lang] OOo 2.0 Arabization Status Report

Hi,

I tried to create the GSI file to be send to Pavel but also faced a
problem and
couldn't try again because of so much lack of time.

what problem?

Anyway, our (Arabeyes.org) CVS repo[2] has all the .po files and really
hope to
see this included in the final release.

In 2.0? This is less probable than impossible now. We are in RC3
phase. You should target 2.0.1 with your translations.

Hi,

I hope that we can discuss all this with Pavel in Koper. Pavel, will you
be at the OOoCON? Can you particpate to the NLC meeting?

yes. I plan to do so!

I'm wondering indeed if Pootle could help provide this central
storage...

No, Pootle can't be the central storage because of several reasons.

I'm not Vlad, but I *again* offer my build system for Polish.

Hi,

I'm the new N/L leader for almost two years now.
I'm still working on OOo 2.0 translation and hope to complete it (without
help)
by end of September.
The link to translation status[1] list in the page is correct.

I picked the mail with subject TABLE sent to mailing list and updated the
table.

Hello Pavel,

[...]

What is the status of the Breton 2.0 localization ? Will they release
something in time for the final release?

don't know. Don't know.

The only thing I know is that they missed the deadline for merging the
translations to the source.

[native-lang] Updating the table of supported languages

2005-09-01 Thread Pavel Janík
Hi,

I plan to do big update of the table

http://l10n.openoffice.org/languages.html

If you have any new info (e.g.: you are working on 2.0, your lead has
changed, you are new NL project, your language was merged in ooo10n20 or
similar), please let me know. Please prefix the subject with TABLE:, e.g.:

Subject: TABLE: Czech updated/merged in ooo10n20.

Please help us to keep the table up-to-date. Thanks!

Hi,

I would like to propose a native-lang project for the Swedish
language. I have met a great demand for OpenOffice, but due to the
lack of an active forum for a Swedish community, users are choosing
not try it. This is something that i would like to change by creating
a native-language level 2 project for Swedish. Currently, the
localization is done by Sun, so what would be needed is a level
2 project to build an active community with support, coordination,
marketing and QA for Swedish.

what do you plan to do, how much time are you able to devote to
e.g. marketing, how many members do you have in your team or are you alone?

need is voice. But when the talk first starts an op has to be there to
set the channel to +m and after the QA set it back to -m.

You seem to already have op access to @ooonlc ;-)

2005-02-22 Thread Pavel Janík
   From: Daniel Carrera [EMAIL PROTECTED]

What I said was that the NLC would benefit much from regular IRC
confs. The NLC has a large number of people, mostly volunteers, who
have pretty much the same goals, and don't get to talk to each
much. Hence, regular IRC confs would be an opportunity for different
NLs to exchange ideas, and to talk more with each other.

You have described the OOo project here, not NLC... To say the same using
different wording: Your description also applies to OOo, thus again: why
limit to NLC only?
