Infra would need to know exactly what point in time this occurred (UTC) and
what objects would need to be restored. There is a forumooo_hu database which
is the likely target for restoration. Please include those details in an infra
Jira ticket.

There may not be anything we can do about this until phpBB is upgraded.

I put the wiki database move on hold until I can look into it more.

Hi folks,

We also need to perform this operation on the ooo-wiki site. This is only
moving the MySQL database backend by updating the server IP in /x1/LocalDB.php.
There will be no other changes to the application or app server. I will be
performing this work tonight at 0100 UTC. The outage should be shorter as there
is only one database that needs to move.

Re: ooo-forums downtime

2018-01-10 Thread Chris Lambertus
All,

There is monitoring for ooo-forums. As I stated, this outage did not trip the
monitors. The duration was likely too short. If the duration was noted to be
longer than 5 minutes or so, it’s possible there is a problem with the
monitoring that needs to be looked into, but when I took the forums down for
the database move, the monitors did, in fact, work.

2018-01-09 Thread Chris Lambertus
By the time we saw this message, it was working fine. It doesn’t appear to have
tripped our monitors. It would be helpful to have a UTC time of the start of
the problem and the duration for this outage.

I’ve pushed a change which fixes this on the database side. I also saw the
email about the forum being down yesterday, but it was a transient problem. It
would be helpful for me to know what the start time and duration was for any
future reports of slowness or outages.

Re: ooo-forums downtime

Unfortunately, some slowdowns are inevitable. We cannot keep the old database
hardware alive, and this is a necessary transition step until we can move the
ooo-forums phpBB software to a new host.

This is ONLY to move the back-end MySQL database onto a new box. The
application server itself won’t be touched except for a one-line change in
/var/lib/phpBB/com309/localDB.php to change the IP address of the MySQL
back-end. The software and server itself won’t be changed otherwise. There is
still a project in the works to migrate and upgrade the machine as you stated
in https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-13281. That hasn’t changed, and
is completely unrelated to the database move on Thursday. Gavin or someone else
from the Infra team will be in communication with you once we are ready to move
forward with that aspect of the system move.

All,

In cooperation with the OpenOffice project, Infra has deployed an updated
version of the Pootle translate system. The official translate.apache.org

approximately 1600 UTC 24 March. Please contact Infra if any issues arise with
the system after the transition tomorrow.

Special thanks to Mechtilde Stehmann, Ariel Constenla-Haile, and Matthias
