Could OSM use a loading status display like I use on my test page
(http://www.orpatec.ch/osm/tools/main.php)? If you want you may copy the
LoadStatus control at http://www.orpatec.ch/osm/LoadStatus.js;. It simply shows
a Ajax-Loader.gif in the upper left corner of the screen (see

No it doesn't. Well if it does then it's your browser or OpenLayers
doing the timeout. There is nothing on the server that will make that
page timeout after 30s.
Possible, but not answering within 30s is equal to a failure, regardless if the
timeout is done in the client.

Ian, (or anybody interested)
You would be very welcome to join us in #osm-co IRC channel on OFTC,
especially if you have an idea about cutting the ways that contain more
than 2000 nodes, which is still needed, whether on one big file or on
many small ones. :)

I used shp-to-osm 0.8 to convert these shapefiles to OSM format (including
splitting the ways at 2000-node boundaries and creating multipolygon
relations out of them).
You can download the data here:

Hey All,
Is there a way to load a vector file from a URl parameter in Potlatch2?
We have grids of areas for people to edit and want to load in a grid
square as a guide.
Thanks

If you're just using Potlatch 2 on osm.org, you can pass it an uploaded GPX

Just a quick note.
This is the code for splitting the planet into thousands of areas in a
single pass based on the mkgmap splitter. I mentioned this code on
both osm-dev and mkgmap-dev.
This branch supports PBF, runs much faster, threads better, doesn't
have the 'node in too many areas' issue,

In my view, the source key is crucial to every object.
I don't add the source key to anything which I've done based on GPS
traces/waypoints. I try and add it on objects I add from other
sources though (NPE, OS Opendata, Bing for example), but as someone
else has says, this won't always go in
