Mexina,

It would be great to transfer the necessary knowledge to have you be part
of the release management team and help with process because as you've seen
its a responsibility that we need shared across more committers in order to
release more often. I'll send a separate thread to see if we can schedule
meeting with Nazeer and others to discuss the process.

The current documentation about release management states that

"Release branches are created every two months at the beginning of the
following month from the changes that were merged by the last day of
the previous month" (1)

That's just a draft, and we haven't been keeping to that. To do that,
we'd need multiple volunteers to step up and take on the release
management role. It doesn't have to be just people who've already
done it, and probably even if those people were on board in principle,
they are not enough in number to keep it consistent.

In addition to those who've already been involved in release
management, is anyone who is currently working on Fineract 1.x
interested in learning to do it?

Myrle,

If we just moved to a time-driven release cycle where we released on a
monthly basis regardless of what features had been completed, I think we
could ensure at least a more regular and hopefully a more frequent release
process.

Would that be a good approach to try and adopt. Provided we have timely
review of the incoming pull requests, we should have a steady flow of code
that can gradually and regularly get released. I think moving to that
monthly cycle will establish better clarity around the timing and process
to the community. Such that when we announce the release branch, we can do
the necessary QA and sanity checking and in parallel be prepping the PRs
that will be going into next release.

Nazeer, Avik, Nikhil, Vishwas and others who've been coordinating release
management - is this something you think we could handle?

+1 from my end on not holding up the release for the Issue 574 (thanks for
that suggestion Vishwas).

However, one show-stopping release is related to the notifications APIs
that have been added to Apache Fineract as a part of this release and the
server-side implementation issues that Dilpretty had noted in this thread:
https://goo.gl/DLua7i

Mexina & Sendoro, we've hit feature freeze for this release so we don't
want to add any new additional PRs that have not gone through the full QA
cycle yet.

We have a number of other new features to ship in a subsequent release
(i.e. all the Swagger work, other recent submissions by partners) so rest
assured that shortly after we issue this release, we'll begin QA and
prepping for the next release so that your fix can be shipped promptly.

Hopefully Avik, Nazeer, Nikhil, or Vishwas will be able to soon review and
merge in your PR.

Re: [Mifos-developer] Updates on Release Timing for Apache Fineract 1.1

2018-02-04 Thread Ed Cable

Hi Vishwas,

It's an existing issue. As it's not blocker, it could be taken in next
release.

Re: [Mifos-developer] Updates on Release Timing for Apache Fineract 1.1

2018-02-04 Thread Mexina Daniel
Hello

I sent a PR of FINERACT-416 in late December 2017
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FINERACT-416

It would be very appreciated if it will be among of the merged PRs in the new
release.

The issue has be a long wait for Microfinances here in Tanzania.

Hello Avik

Waiting for your response

Thanks in advance

Regards

Hello Vishwas,

While waiting for FINERACT-574

Can you review existing PRs... that haven't been merged? or the close has been
closed?

As our circle take considerable, why don't we capitalize in accommodating open
PRs.
