The MacBook and mini are now registered at preyproject.com. I will add
my android phone tomorrow. They are working on iPhones and iPads. They
have a good video tutorial on the main site.
They have calibrated their free service well. Three devices can be

I meant laptop drives... I think I read an interview that said the
most density we will ever see is 2TB on a laptop and 4TB on a desktop
drive... will see if I can find the article; was more of a business
issue than an integration one...

I think 2TB is the biggest we will see a desktop drive; I wonder if
this approach would scale up and down to laptop drives? It may be

Sorry that I missed the talk. Has a copy of Federico's talk posted on the

Someone sent it out on this list a while ago. I have seen it recommended
other places, though no personal experiences.
Might be worth a shot for protecting your laptops and macs if they are
taken.

The Efika MX Smarttop that was at the April meeting sounds like it
could do the job, but I was not able to find any links to a how-to for

it the other way with zonemoniter.
Thing is, I don't want to invest a big amount of time t
To stay focused on computer issues, I am thinking of a plug computer
w/SD card + zonemonitor + wireless N camera. This would be triggered
by motion. The plug computer could go anywhere. The wireless camera
goes in the bedroom, and configure it not to record from 7 pm to 9am.
Make it easy for us to

I don't recommend honey pot, but you can try the 'motion' webcam
application.
It has motion detection, save to image/video, upload to remote server

If you could rig it so it streams the video to youtube or elsewhere
in the Cloud before displaying it for the thief, then you'd still have
the evidence up to the point that he steals or smashes the device...

Sorry I'm not answering the question but I found last night that they make
digital photo frames with motion detection. It would be cool to hack that
so you could catch someone in the act and show them the picture at the same

I haven't setup up one for the home, but I have done some algorithm work for
other purposes and one of them may be helpful. With that said this may be
slightly OT depending on how much work you are going to put into it. You can
greatly reduce your data set by running a rolling average of a few f

We recently lost my wife's engagement ring from the master bedroom of
our condo. The thief also went through boxes in a drawer, picking out
the one that had a small stone. And I must mention the coins, regular
coins, a fistful that have been taken, but not the rolls of
