Yeah, I don't know about you all, but at least through MySB, I have the ability to set these sound effects/nature sounds as alarm sounds. I can't try setting through my local LMS since I'm not at home right now, but if I can set them through MySB, I can't imagine why I wouldn't be able to set

You can't, you can only send CLI commands to the server which doesn't help if the player is not connected. You could try Net::UDAP, not sure that works, depends on whether you SB3 auto-updates the firmware and auto-connects to the network. http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57861

What kind of resolution is needed on the album art files for it to look a lot better ? I think most of mine are less than 500x500 pixels, will they still look significantly better on the retina display ? Or do I need to start getting album covers with higher resolution to get any real benefits ?

I believe Squeezepad has been updated... at least here in the States, it's showing version 1.9.4 with retina display support, updated yesterday 3/26/12. And I'll add, now that I've also purchased iPeng (I bought SqueezePad over a year ago), that to me at least, iPeng's visual quality in list
