I could not play a .m4a file. But I went to
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/AAC and edit my
/etc/squeezecenter/convert.conf file to add in the text it said. But
then mine would play static on .m4a songs. So I deleted the -x from the
text file and now it's playing my .m4a music very good

This issue drove me crazy!
As very few of my tracks are Apple lossless and 7.2 has been running
well since install, the whole thing appeared to be a random problem.
Finding this thread (top kudos to the OP!) and following the OP's
instructions solved this extremely annoying bug.
It's an
Hi, I'm running version 7.2.1 on Ubuntu and I can't play M4A files
(lossy). The lines that have been reported missing from
TranscodingHelper.pm are present on my system.
Is there a way I can fix this?

Hi, maybe somebody can summarise things for me ?
I'm running version 7.2 on Ubuntu. It won't play the songs I ripped
from CD using Itunes (lossy).
What do I do?

Apparently the bug is fixed with the nightly release of 7.2.1. (thanks
for that), so I would try this
On Linux systems - to play m4a / AAC lossy files - you will need to
install and additional app such as mplayer or faad. There is an entry
in the wiki.

I upgraded today to 7.2 and it turned out that my Apple Lossless files
are not working anymore on Ubuntu. This problem is now known since more
than two weeks and not solved, unbelievable. I canĀ“t find the file
mentioned by andlauer, can anyone tell me how I can downgrade back to
7.1? Slim Devices
The nightly release of 7.2.1 has the bug fixed.

I have been reading this and similar threads with interest, because my
.m4a tracks won't play through my duet (while my mp3 tracks play just
fine). My .m4a tracks are from CDs that were ripped using iTunes. I
just set up my duet last night.

Hello,
I would recommend you to use a stable version of SqueezeCenter.
Furthermore, you will need a program to convert ALAC to a format
supported by the Squeezebox. I know that on Linux it is alac. According
to this thread (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52502),
on Windows and
Thank you for your quick and helpful reply. I went ahead and reverted
back to Squeezecenter 7.2. I know that you are right about needing
Quicktime (or apparently faad.exe), but I think it is complicated for
me because I will need to install on a windows home server (HP
MediaSmart), and maybe

Hello again,
I add further clarification to my original post (it was late when I
wrote it). Squeezecenter 7.1 plays Apple lossless (ALAC) files, and
uses the alac program ro convert from ALAC to FLAC or WAV.
Squeezecenter 7.2 does not play ALAC files anymore and the log

You should probably file a bug with this excellent info.
good work finding the bug and the fix.
If you file a bug I asumes that someone going to apply your fix to 7.2
and 7.3

What is happening is SC thinks the file is a MOV type (Apple Quicktime
compatible) file to be transcoded into MP3. You have not defined any
decoder for MOV (in windows and OSX it uses mov123) and so SC fails to
decoder. Linux system need decoders defined for AAC/M4A formats.
From your log.
I have filed bug report 9420 about this problem.

You're right - it should be examined as a bug becausde it is a problem
for Linxu users. I was also correcting the user assumption that SC had
identified the file type as MP3.
The problem will only appear for Linux users as Linux will not have a
MOV decoder defined by default.

Hello,
SC 7.2 Ubuntu does not play ALAC. Restoring the lines recently deleted
from TranscodingHelper.pm (between revision 21788 and revision revision
22935) fixes the problem.
Find an exerpt of the server log below.
Please assist.
