But none of us will be "cool enough" to really enjoy that "CD sound".

Depends on the player. If the new player honour the gain tag then great,
but it was not a core feature.
Annoyingly android core media playback services do not honour replaygain
tags either, so I do wind up also permanently normalising my files used
for portable playback. Like you say, no issue

Yes you can create normalised mp3s, but the process is lossy.

Fewer distractions when driving is a good thing, so I do my organizing
for drive-along-music ahead of time. I prefer to use USB drives but have
an ample selection on my always-with-me mobile for bluetooth or cable
access via USB port.
I always have a flash drive with newer music for checking
I've found most ICE systems have awful unresponsive UIs when it comes to
browsing large numbers of files on USB sticks, tbh. And there's no
search, obviously. And their format support is awful. I have everything
ripped to flac for home use and a mirrored archive of ogg vorbis files
for use
Most cars have usb. I carry my music on some usb sticks for car use. I
Bluetooth the phone as a phone only but I do have a lot of Flacs on my

I on the other hand always request Bluetooth because unlike your Samsung
phone mine came with 128GB built in storage (and cost less most likely
too) .. the idea of taking a bunch of CDs is about as alien as the idea
of playing one at home.

I rented a car, in March to drive to a ski area. Guess what? No CD

I can't remember the last time I bought a CD in a brick-and-mortar
store. I haven't been inside a Best Buy for many years, and I don't
recall that I've ever been inside a Target. I don't really understand
why anybody goes into places like that.
Which is not to say I don't buy CDs, or

Well my LMS has 3099 Albums now (75958 titles, so over the Sonos limit)
- and I still have a lot to go... As it is all classical and every album
has 2-4 CDs, I guess it is a lot ;-)
That is where my money went. So putting

I had vinyl racks like that at one time - sold them off while the
selling was good...

Amazon Echo and Google Home are both round ... so maybe the question

What's quite interesting in news reports about the demise of CDs is that
they are no longer regarded as 'digital'. Digital is very much seen as
the opposite of 'physical', rather than the opposite of 'analogue'...

Oh no, well CDs are definitely on the way out in the shops. Only real
way to get them are the big online stores. What a shame, but honestly I
mainly listen to music from my NAs and not put my CDs in a player

closer...
But what to
The CDs time is nearly up, apart from for albums likely to sell to old
people...
Though the irony is they probably still sell LPs...
