Yep, tried that, as well as holding in the ADD button while powering up.
 Nada.

There's also the reprogramming xilinx thingy. Can't remember how it's
done, but it's another press-and-hold procedure. Please search the forums
- you should find the instructions somewhere.

Here's my problem - when I do a scan, I only get maybe 5% of my actual

 would scan in 100%.

What MySQL server version are you running?

SlimServer may not be recognizing the mapped drive. Have you tried
entering as the music folder:

\\Host\Music-Home\iTunes\iTunes Music

where Host is the network name of your network drive?

You should be able to find that name in My Network Places.

[slim] Cant save playlists Help!

2007-04-09 Thread chris600

Hi all
after installing sserver on a new hard drive with a fresh install os
winxp i am having a weird problem with saving playlists. If a compile a
list on the ui and click save nothing appears on the left side of the
screen to save apart from the playlist name. If i save this sserver
sees the name in the playlist folder but the playlist shows as empty.
This happens with bouth the ui and using the remote on my sb3. It gets
weirder. if instead of clicking save i click download and send it to my
musicmatch application i can save it with musicmatch then export it to
the playlist folder, rescan and then if i open it with either my sb or
the ui slimserver sees all of the tracks no problem. also if i open an
existing playlist with the ui add tracks to it then click save the only
tracks that appear on the left are the original playlist tracks and not
the just added ones that are visible in the now playing window on the
right. I have opened some of the playlists using notepad and the ones
that are working in ss list all of the tracks just fine. ones that i am
saving through sserver are just displaying #curtrack 0o#extm3uo and
nothing else. any ideas !!

Preamp Volume Control works on the analog output (not sure about the
digital outputs). The Russound has analog inputs only. Amazon lists it
for ~$200, and other online vendors for less, but I don't know if any of
them are authorized dealers (the Russound website says they do NOT sell

I bought mine locally from the same dealer who installed my in-ceiling

Re: [slim] Debugging help re Vista m4a issue, please

2007-04-09 Thread bpa

Some more thoughts and things to try out.

1. Testing WAV and FLAC may not be a good test as they may have been
sent directly to SB. Try playing a WMA file with Windows Media
builtin disabled.

2. I think the problem could be associated with loading QuickTime
libraries as mov123 uses QuickTime libraries. Making sure SoftSqueeze
and QuickTime (in the systray) are not running. Try to play one of
your m4a file using Quicktime player - is there a delay ? If there is
no delay then test is inconclusive as QuickTime could preload
libraries.

3. If Quicktime is the common problem and not file access then you
could try to use a different decoder such as mplayer. Here are the
steps

A. Download, unzip and install mplayer.exe in the same directory as
mov123.exe. The link beow is for more recent build 1.0rc1 than in
AlienBBC. Don't forget to make mplayer a trusted app.
http://homepage.eircom.net/~altondsl/slim/mplayerrc1exe.ZIP
After installing, from a cmd box try running mplayer and make sure you
get a banner.
B. Download, unzip and install custom-convert.conf in the same
directory (i.e. server) as convert.conf.
http://homepage.eircom.net/~altondsl/slim/custom-convert.zip

C. Restart Slimserver and check that there are 4 Apple entries in
Filetypes - mov123 handles AIFF - mplayer will handler and be checked
for Apple WAV, FLAC and possibly MP3
D. Try an m4a file and if there is a delay post the log.

4. New version of debug socketwrapper - has a few more messages and the
counters are fixed (they were stuck at zeo in previous version)
http://homepage.eircom.net/~altondsl/slim/socketwrapper013.zip

[slim] Mac vs. Linux vs. Windows

2007-04-09 Thread Balthazar_B

I've tried some searches in the forums, but didn't find the thread I was
looking for.

I realize the difficulty of doing so on different hardware, but has
anyone done comparative performance benchmark testing of a recent
Slimserver version running on, say, a Mac Mini, a Linux box, and a
Windows XP box, with the music files on external storage (e.g., NAS
volume)? I've seen several reports of significant performance
increases when moving from XP to Linux, but I'm very curious as to
whether Mac OSX performance is closer to the former or the latter (or
superior to both).

On a related note, are Slimserver plug-ins all OS-agnostic, or will
some only work on one OS platform or another? I've noticed that some
are packaged as ZIP files, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Thanks!

Re: [slim] Nokia N800

2007-04-09 Thread bklaas

hi Tim-

a couple of notes on your previous posts.

on checkins: If there is a bug that needs fixing on both branches, if
feasible I will usually test and check the fix into both branches, 6.5
and trunk (7.0).

on memory leaks: The Nokia770 and Touch skins I maintain make very
heavy use of AJAX, which sends requests to slimserver in the background
and updates elements on the page without the need to update the entire
page (for example, when the current song changes). This makes for a
much nicer user experience, but with AJAX comes a greater possibility
for memory leaks. Internet Explorer is usually the prime offender in
not handling memory correctly, but the Opera/N800 environment may have
similar issues. That said, finding and plugging AJAX memory leaks is
very difficult. If there is a real problem here, any specifics on how
to reproduce it would be helpful, and opening a bug at
http://bugs.slimdevices.com is the proper route for reporting it.

on current development: I should note that I haven't touched any
development on either branch in quite some time, as I do all of this
work in my spare cycles, of which I've had very few in the past 6 weeks
or so. However, there are a number of nice enhancements I've completed
in 7.0, which I documented here:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?TouchNokia770ss7Enhancements

The big thing left on my plate for 7.0 skin development is to become
compliant with what's necessary to support the new plugin API, so
things like Favorites and third-party plugins are better served via the
skin.

cheers,
#!/ben

Re: [slim] Not reading cuesheets

2007-04-09 Thread BigTony

Ok, I've searched all over the wiki and the forums and still no clues as
to why this isn't working for me.

I can search my music folder and the .cue files are listed, but when I
select them I just get a 'Playlist Empty' error.
The cuesheets are nothing fancy, simply the ones produced by EAC, they
seem to have all the required info as in the wiki, but I still can't
get them recognised. Done all the usual recan, reboot etc.

As there are posts regarding being able to put pictures into .cu files,
and even embedding .cues into flacs, someone else must be getting these
to work ok, so I must be missing some 'secret'.

I'm using SS 6.5, on a windows XP Professional, SP2.

Cheers

BT

[slim] SlimServer not opening

2007-04-09 Thread baby88

I have a strange problem. I have downloaded both 6.5.1 and 6.5.2, They
appear to install properly. I set them up during install to open during
Windows turn-on. At the end of the installation the software will open
and the tray icon will appear. But, when I turn my computer off and
restart it, the Slimserver software will not open. It does not start
automatically. I can double click the desktop icon or go to the
programs menu and select it there. It simply will not start. Does
anyone have any input as to why this is happening?
Thanks!

Try turning off your personal firewall (assuming there is one) and
antivirus application, and then retry. It could be a case of your
firewall not allowing a proper port connection, or your FW or AV not
allowing an unknown application to run.

case the server (an older Dell Pentium III) was accessing music files
on a NAS (Buffalo LinkStation). Bottom line was that Win2K took 40%

The main thing it affects is scan times. The web and remote

[slim] Recommendation for linear power supply (interference with AM radio)

2007-04-09 Thread TheShanMan

Whenever listening to the lower end of the AM radio band, it picks up
noise from the switching power supply of my slimp3 or sb1. I have to
unplug the power from the slimp3/sb1 (unplugging from wall not
necessary) in order to eliminate the noise when listening to an AM
station.

If I understand correctly, switching to a linear power supply would
eliminate this problem, correct? I know I'm not the first to replace
the power supply. Any recommendations on one? I certainly don't want to
spend lots of money on one. I see this Radio Shack one which can do
5V/2A, but I'm not sure if it's switching or linear. It's also a little
more expensive than I'd prefer. So any advice on decent, inexpensive
power supplies would be very appreciated!

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?parentPage=familysummary=summarytechSpecs=techSpecscurrentTab=featurescp=2032056.2032136.2032153custRatings=custRatingsfeatures=featuresaccessories=accessoriesproductId=2049697support=supporttab=summary

As a secondary question, I know the supply that SD ships is 5V/2A, but
is that actually what's necessary? I see some supplies that are 4.5V,
or 6V, or perhaps slightly under 2A, and it makes me wonder if any of
these would be acceptable?

BTW, I'm not concerned about the size. Big is fine as long as I don't
have the noise!

Why? If you need network accessible storage, you need network
accessible storage. Doesn't matter what operating system(s) you're
running.

The term NAS has taken on a bizarre definition in these forums to
mean something like a box that runs SlimServer so I don't have to have
a computer running. It means network attached storage, and that's
all. A (usually) quick and easy to configure device that adds file
storage to a network.

external firewire disks are much faster.

Not necessarily. Internal disks are almost certain to be faster, but
external firewire or USB disks should be slower than accessing files
served over a Gbit network from a good file server. Depends on the
file server and depends on the client implementation. The client
implementation appears to be the problem with SlimServer-on-Windows
connecting to an NAS.

I agree, it is most strange that NAS has taken such a strange
definition. the box is a computer. It has an operating system.

Lots of boxes are computers and have operating systems, including cell
phones, digital cameras, routers, etc.

I find this all amazing, there is not much difference in any of them.

NAS's are usually run by people who don't want to run a real 24/7

betting the majority of NAS users are not running Windows. Well, that's

Agreed, but plugging a USB/FW/SATA drive into a server you already have

With a Gigabit network, the network speed isn't the bottleneck. The CPU
processing speed of a NAS device is. I'll bet any decent Linux server
will beat any NAS device on speed. Of course, FW is fast, but with a
'real' server there's no reason you shouldn't just use a SATA disk.

Linux people who run their own servers will usually keep their music on
the local machine and therefore will not run into problems with slow NAS
networking.

A percentage of the Windows problem cases will even be running
slimserver on a laptop while accessing a NAS and streaming music over
wifi. Oh the horror... ;)

There are enough 5V supplies out there that you shouldn't settle for a
different voltage. If it's not tightly regulated it could fluctuate
beyond what it's rated, so you could be looking at seven volts from one
rated at 6. There is over/under voltage protection inside the newer
squeezeboxes (not sure about slimp3,v1,etc.), but the display and DAC
could stop functioning temporarily at low voltages, for example.

The one referenced above seems like a perfect choice for your needs.

I'm not sure what version of the FW Squeezenetwork is pushing down, but
I've upgraded both my SB2 3 to the latest FW81 without issue.

When I bought my SB2, it came with FW16, so it's been upgraded 30
times at this stage without ever really having a problem.

Two thing's I would suggest.

1) Unlikely
Try hitting brightness after plugging the SB2 back in, could be that
it's just gone onto the setting which turns the display off.

2) This has happened to me.
The server had the player in a power state of OFF and disregarded all
my attapts to do anything via remote control. I had to go to the Web UI
and select the player, then change the power state to ON.

Just out of interest, does the Web UI still see the player that is
dead?

I needed to use my amp for several sources (including TV and the SB),
so I got the Harmony 880 universal remote. This lets you turn the amp
on and off with the SB, automatically, as well as set the input on the
TV.
Unless, that is, the amp is an NAD, which doesn't allow power
switching via remote (at least, mine doesn't).

I used X10 to solve that for a very low cost by buying:
 - infra-red receiver (IR543)
 - infra red remote to program the Harmony, although you might not
need this (UR19A)
 - one appliance module (AM466, I think)
These were each about $10 each including shipping, on eBay.

Downside: you need to already own a universal remote, or it becomes
expensive (but the Harmony is well worth the money, IMHO). Powering
off and on also produces an audible 'click' that some might find
irritating.

Upside: you get a one-button-on for any of your amp sources. You also
get to control other devices with your Harmony, if you want to buy
more modules; think light dimming, projector screen motors, etc.

Sounds like a variant on the bizarre definition that JJZolx

Samba, and doesn't run Apache, sendmail, nfs, etc.? I would venture
that people buy a NAS because they want to run smbd and nmbd, although
that wish might be expressed as I want everyone in the house to be
able to access the music files. A NAS is a server, that runs the
daemons one set of buyers wants, and is less expensive to buy and run
than real server, especially at the consumer-grade end of the NAS

Re: [slim] Slim splits CD into 2 or more Albums

2007-04-09 Thread Spies

This might be a conflict with the guess tags feature of SlimServer.

If you are not relying on this feature try deleting all of the guess
tags formats in Home/Server Settings/Formatting and doing a rescan
music library with the clear library and rescan everything option under
Home/Server Settings/Basic Settings.

[slim] 6.5.1 not recognizing itunes

2007-04-09 Thread jschott

I recently loaded v6.5.1, and was able to load my library of ~300G of
music via itunes, linked to an external hard drive.

Whilst experimenting with various options including viewing linked
albums as one, the entire library wiped. I have been able to load music
from a specific folder, but not from itunes - when I try, it says that
it is updating the library, but loads 0 tracks. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled 6.5.1 and itunes (7), but still no success.

Any advice would be gratefuly received...

Have you tried looking in Server Settings within SlimServer? There is an
option 'use iTunes', does that help?

Re: [slim] 6.5.1 not recognizing itunes

2007-04-09 Thread Ross L

Ahh OK. This generally happens when *something* has changed with your
iTunes library. In this case, you might need to specify the path to the
iTunes music library.xml file as well as the actual library. Go to
server settings - iTunes (from the pull down menu along the top).
Simply specify the two fields mentioned, iTunes music library.xml file
location and iTunes music folder.

Re: [slim] Mac vs. Linux vs. Windows

2007-04-09 Thread Balthazar_B

The thread's getting a little off-track, although the discussion of
content access locally vs. over the net is interesting.

For the record, I'm running an Infrant NV+ box (which is basically a
linux-based multiprotocol file server with several additional daemons
for print services, etc.). My workstations are mostly
XP at this point, although I'm strongly considering adding a Mac Mini
as a Slimserver host (which prompted my original question). If anyone
is running SS6.5x on a Mini and accessing large libraries (approx. 70K
tracks, give or take) and could pass along their experiences, I'd be
most grateful.

Thanks!

[slim] Setup lock code?

2007-04-09 Thread grimholtz

I briefly searched the forums for setup lock code and didn't see a
thread about this. Forgive me if I missed it.

I recently moved a SB to a new location, unplugging its ethernet
interface and wanting to use its wireless capability. When I turn the
unit on, I get prompted with: Problem: Ethernet appears disconnected.
Please check your network connection. When I scroll left, I get this
prompt: Enter setup lock code: with 4 asterisks. No matter what I
enter, I'm told the lock code is invalid.

How do I get rid of this lock?

thanks,
grimholtz

Re: [slim] Slim splits CD into 2 or more Albums

2007-04-09 Thread bukharin

I had a similar problem with 1 album or 2 albums. I eventually fixed the
problem by doing the following:

1) moved the affected album out of slimserver's music folder
2) re-scanned my music folder (so the album was wiped from slimserver's
database)
3) deleted all tags in the album, and saved the files in that state
4) re-tagged the files and saved again
5) moved the files back into slimserver's music folder
6) re-scanned the music folder

I haven't had any such problems since.

If you tell me how to determine the SB version, I'll gladly post it. I
can also take photos of the two screens on the SB before I do a factory
reset, if you like, and post them. Let me know.

You don't have to post pictures, I believe you! I just haven't heard of
it, but I haven't been here that long so it's probably just before my
time.

Model number is on the sticker on the bottom. It will say either
Squeezebox, Squeezebox V2 or Squeezebox V3. Let us know how it goes.

Quoting RalphO ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

I couldn't get it to work all weekend.

As a workaround, use Google. If you type the following query, it
will search only the slimdevices.com site, including the forums.
Works better than the forum search anyway.

In the google search box, type site:slimdevices.com without the
quotes, followed by a space and whatever query terms you want to
search.

For example:
site:slimdevices.com ripping flac files with cue sheets
