[slim] Cant save playlists Help!
Hi all after installing sserver on a new hard drive with a fresh install os winxp i am having a weird problem with saving playlists. If a compile a list on the ui and click save nothing appears on the left side of the screen to save apart from the playlist name. If i save this sserver sees the name in the playlist folder but the playlist shows as empty. This happens with bouth the ui and using the remote on my sb3. It gets weirder. if instead of clicking save i click download and send it to my musicmatch application i can save it with musicmatch then export it to the playlist folder, rescan and then if i open it with either my sb or the ui slimserver sees all of the tracks no problem. also if i open an existing playlist with the ui add tracks to it then click save the only tracks that appear on the left are the original playlist tracks and not the just added ones that are visible in the now playing window on the right. I have opened some of the playlists using notepad and the ones that are working in ss list all of the tracks just fine. ones that i am saving through sserver are just displaying #curtrack 0o#extm3uo and nothing else. any ideas !! -- chris600 chris600's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4662 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34321 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Debugging help re Vista m4a issue, please
Some more thoughts and things to try out. 1. Testing WAV and FLAC may not be a good test as they may have been sent directly to SB. Try playing a WMA file with Windows Media builtin disabled. 2. I think the problem could be associated with loading QuickTime libraries as mov123 uses QuickTime libraries. Making sure SoftSqueeze and QuickTime (in the systray) are not running. Try to play one of your m4a file using Quicktime player - is there a delay ? If there is no delay then test is inconclusive as QuickTime could preload libraries. 3. If Quicktime is the common problem and not file access then you could try to use a different decoder such as mplayer. Here are the steps A. Download, unzip and install mplayer.exe in the same directory as mov123.exe. The link beow is for more recent build 1.0rc1 than in AlienBBC. Don't forget to make mplayer a trusted app. http://homepage.eircom.net/~altondsl/slim/mplayerrc1exe.ZIP After installing, from a cmd box try running mplayer and make sure you get a banner. B. Download, unzip and install custom-convert.conf in the same directory (i.e. server) as convert.conf. http://homepage.eircom.net/~altondsl/slim/custom-convert.zip C. Restart Slimserver and check that there are 4 Apple entries in Filetypes - mov123 handles AIFF - mplayer will handler and be checked for Apple WAV, FLAC and possibly MP3 D. Try an m4a file and if there is a delay post the log. 4. New version of debug socketwrapper - has a few more messages and the counters are fixed (they were stuck at zeo in previous version) http://homepage.eircom.net/~altondsl/slim/socketwrapper013.zip -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34181 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Mac vs. Linux vs. Windows
I've tried some searches in the forums, but didn't find the thread I was looking for. I realize the difficulty of doing so on different hardware, but has anyone done comparative performance benchmark testing of a recent Slimserver version running on, say, a Mac Mini, a Linux box, and a Windows XP box, with the music files on external storage (e.g., NAS volume)? I've seen several reports of significant performance increases when moving from XP to Linux, but I'm very curious as to whether Mac OSX performance is closer to the former or the latter (or superior to both). On a related note, are Slimserver plug-ins all OS-agnostic, or will some only work on one OS platform or another? I've noticed that some are packaged as ZIP files, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Re: [slim] Nokia N800
hi Tim- a couple of notes on your previous posts. on checkins: If there is a bug that needs fixing on both branches, if feasible I will usually test and check the fix into both branches, 6.5 and trunk (7.0). on memory leaks: The Nokia770 and Touch skins I maintain make very heavy use of AJAX, which sends requests to slimserver in the background and updates elements on the page without the need to update the entire page (for example, when the current song changes). This makes for a much nicer user experience, but with AJAX comes a greater possibility for memory leaks. Internet Explorer is usually the prime offender in not handling memory correctly, but the Opera/N800 environment may have similar issues. That said, finding and plugging AJAX memory leaks is very difficult. If there is a real problem here, any specifics on how to reproduce it would be helpful, and opening a bug at http://bugs.slimdevices.com is the proper route for reporting it. on current development: I should note that I haven't touched any development on either branch in quite some time, as I do all of this work in my spare cycles, of which I've had very few in the past 6 weeks or so. However, there are a number of nice enhancements I've completed in 7.0, which I documented here: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?TouchNokia770ss7Enhancements The big thing left on my plate for 7.0 skin development is to become compliant with what's necessary to support the new plugin API, so things like Favorites and third-party plugins are better served via the skin. cheers, #!/ben -- bklaas the Nokia770 skin guy http://www.last.fm/user/bklaas/ bklaas's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31398 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Recommendation for linear power supply (interference with AM radio)
Whenever listening to the lower end of the AM radio band, it picks up noise from the switching power supply of my slimp3 or sb1. I have to unplug the power from the slimp3/sb1 (unplugging from wall not necessary) in order to eliminate the noise when listening to an AM station. If I understand correctly, switching to a linear power supply would eliminate this problem, correct? I know I'm not the first to replace the power supply. Any recommendations on one? I certainly don't want to spend lots of money on one. I see this Radio Shack one which can do 5V/2A, but I'm not sure if it's switching or linear. It's also a little more expensive than I'd prefer. And the sensitivity is such that it won't turn off the amp if you're playing music at a low volume? I needed to use my amp for several sources (including TV and the SB), so I got the Harmony 880 universal remote. This lets you turn the amp on and off with the SB, automatically, as well as set the input on the TV. Unless, that is, the amp is an NAD, which doesn't allow power switching via remote (at least, mine doesn't). I used X10 to solve that for a very low cost by buying: - infra-red receiver (IR543) - infra red remote to program the Harmony, although you might not need this (UR19A) - one appliance module (AM466, I think) These were each about $10 each including shipping, on eBay. Downside: you need to already own a universal remote, or it becomes expensive (but the Harmony is well worth the money, IMHO). Powering off and on also produces an audible 'click' that some might find irritating. Upside: you get a one-button-on for any of your amp sources. You also get to control other devices with your Harmony, if you want to buy more modules; think light dimming, projector screen motors, etc. Cheers, Geoff ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Forum Search Broken?
Quoting RalphO ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): I just tried it and it seems to work for me. I couldn't get it to work all weekend. As a workaround, use Google. If you type the following query, it will search only the slimdevices.com site, including the forums. Works better than the forum search anyway. In the google search box, type site:slimdevices.com without the quotes, followed by a space and whatever query terms you want to search. Re: [slim] Setup lock code?
Oh, you want the *model* number... For some reason, I thought you meant the version of slimserver that I was running. It's a SqueezeBox 3. -- grimholtz 'Get PasswordMaker' (https://passwordmaker.org/) 'Get FoxyProxy' (http://foxyproxy.mozdev.org/) 'Read one of my books' (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1861005202/102-7541338-1644948) grimholtz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5235 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34337 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
