Have you enabled bitrate limiting for the SqueezePlayer player, so that
maybe your QNAP is trying to transcode all the time?

Are you sure you tried with mp3s (as ALACs will definitely get
transcoded which might not be fast enough on QNAP). What about an
internet radio stream (just to test another type of mp3) ?

Hi bluegaspode, thx for your fast response !
In fact when I tried a few things yesterday I saw that it was not
working anymore on my Ipad either.
So I thought it was a router issue. I had the port 3483 routed but in
both tcp and udp. When I deleted the UDP port rerouting it worked like
a charm.
So even if the ALAC is transcoded, the QNAP is fast enough to play
tunes and to be gapless.
Thx for the response, it was not crystal clear that the port 3483 was
to be opened in TCP.
Awesome app anyway !

 Please explain.
Historical mainly.

I think the rationale is as follows.

The older plugin was superceded by a newer app which intended to make
the transitions from mysb.com and a local LMS seamless.

Podcasts configured in the Podcast App on mysb.com are available to
players regardless whether player is attached to mysb.com or a local
LMS.

The older plugin was initially kept for compatibility with users who
had podcast configured and whi upgraded. IIRC The plug is now disabled
by default.

I think there are problems will happen if you enable the podcast plugn
and have podcast app configured.

of the bags hold the back card.

But I'm not sure that I want to be without the inserts, especially for
box sets with deluxe books. And I'm also not sure I want to separate
the cds from their inserts because of the difficulty of reuniting them.

This is presently a conundrum. Thoughts?

I put my cds in the attic in their Jazz Loft sleeves (in boxes), which
saves space in the loft as well as the racks. On your other questions,
a) The Jazz Loft sleeves take up less room than a standard CD case so
will fit in your racks. b) The Jazz Loft sleeves are a gate-fold design
so take the back card and CD in the right half and the insert in the

For deluxe box sets with books I just keep the CDs in their original
packaging. I only use the Jazz Loft sleeves to replace standard CD
jewel cases.

I would not separate the CD from its insert either so leave both

Re: [slim] Why not in a car?

2012-03-15 Thread socistep

Audio in the car is one area which I still have to rely on apple
unfortunately (and occasionally cd)

I have a ford focus and installed a Kenwood head unit, it has a direct
connection for iPod/iPhone so I can control on the stereo itself,
mainly I use spotify on my old iphone 3G whilst listening as it has all
'new music' on, I had to jailbreak and install 'Music controls' app to
be able to fully use the spotify app with the stereo but it works very
well, I then occasionally use an ipod which has 'Top Rated' tracks on
and obviously more capacity to store them - thats mainly when my
girlfriend is in the car and she doesn't like my music!

I'm mainly an Android user so I'm hoping that in time there will be
head units that come out which will support my Android phone and tablet
and cut down on the number of devices I need to use!

Re: [slim] Slacker stoppages anyone?

2012-03-15 Thread virgiliomi

More info from Slacker... apparently Logitech has been lax in
maintaining some of the various apps for all of the various supported
streaming services, while they focused their efforts on migrating MySB
to the Amazon cloud. Hence the issues experienced recently with both
Slacker and Pandora, among others. Obviously with the service now in
the cloud versus on Logitech's own servers, they can now return focus
to their support of some of the various internet music services we
love.

Also of interest, the Slacker person I chatted with has said that
Logitech has been provided with Slacker's latest API - which can
provide Premium-level on-demand features... so Logitech has the tools
to add more features to their Slacker app, it's just a question of
whether they use them or not at this point. Here's to hoping... :)

[slim] Wireless rear surround speakers?

2012-03-15 Thread chill

I'd like to hook up a couple of rear surround speakers at the back of a
largish home theatre room, but I would prefer not to run speaker wires
from the amp at the front of the room - no wall-to-wall carpeting to
hide them under.

I'm imagining a product that connects to the surround speaker terminals
on the amp and transmits the output wirelessly, so that I can connect a
suitable receiver to, say, a T-amp near the surround speakers, or even
one T-amp per speaker. I already have a T-amp and various pairs of
passive speakers that would suit. The benefits of connecting to the
amp's speaker terminals are that the amp's volume and delay adjustments
would operate as normal.

Does such a product exist, and if not, how else can I do it?

Re: [slim] Anyone thought about AIRPLAY support in Squeezebox Server?

2012-03-15 Thread RadBadMark

All Linn DS products now with Davaar firmware support Airplay.
Absolutely no hardware changes at all.

Vortexbox player had AirPlay for a while. Software only.

 XBMC has AirPlay support.

As has already been said the software is trivial to do, that's not the
issue, and providing unofficial software support based on reverse
engineering is entirely different to having an officially sanctioned
product. I can't imagine Linn are an Apple technology licensee so they
have nothing to lose (except money if the lawyers are set on them!),
but Logitech will be under signed agreements and no doubt have lots of
current and future products in the market based on those licences.

Even now, a year on, as far as I'm aware airplay on consumer devices is
still only available on a single hardware platform.

 call me old fashioned.

Up to a point I agree with you. Over the years my wife and I have
downsized (on purpose) to smaller and smaller houses. My current house
is 1/4 the size of our home 25 year ago. And I have, not exactly sure,
10,000 or so CDs. Going to jewel cases saved me a TON of space. And I
can still walk into a room, open a cabinet drawer and access the CDs
with full inserts quickly. (And notice I would never get rid of the
CDs, even if I hope to never NEED to see them again).

Re: [slim] Wireless rear surround speakers?

This unit is pretty close to what you describe:

Comes with its own amplifier, however.

Yes, that looks pretty close. It gets a good review, so I need to find
out where to get them in the UK. There seem to be a few Rocketfish
receivers on eBay, but they don't seem to include the sender.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...

Glad to hear that you guys now have Spotify. I love it.

I disabled FLAC like you said. The pops and random speeds went away,
but this caused another problem. All Radios started to pause and skip
tracks (I did try with the droid X both synced/unsynced and the droid X
off and on.) I found it better to leave FLAC on.

Could you please drop me a message to support(at)squeezeplayer.com
I'd like to send you a beta build which solves the Spotify problems for
me, even when FLAC is activated.
