Re: [slim] Spotify is now free for mobile and computers
The Question is, how Spotify knows, what type of device Squeezebox really is? Is this information dynamicaly sent from plug-in to Spotify server? Or developer of this plug-in must first for plug-in officialy to get licence from Spotify and in Plug-in description must to be said, for what type of device is plug-in intend? serak's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=23394 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100523 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Setup Squeezebox Receiver via iPad App
Hi I have used a Sqeezebox Classic for some years now and am very happy with it. These days I invariably control it via the iPad App: Logitech Squeezebox Controller. I am considering buying a Squeezebox Receiver (probably off eBay) to use in another room, which I would also control via the iPad App. My question is whether I would be able to setup the new Receiver using this app; or would I need to get the Duet controller to perform this initial setup? The sort of setup task I am thinking of is establishing a connection between the receiver and my wireless network. Any advice much appreciated. Geoff Geoff J. [slim] Player comes to life (by itself!) in the wee small hours...
So, Last night, 4.30am or so, the display on the SB3 in the bedroom lit up. Connecting to server it proclaimed. Now, I'd been fast asleep until then, but that was the end of that. I wasn't so pleased, and neither was my wife. Ho Hum - just another disturbed night's sleep! But really I could do without this. I put it in the room as part of a player re-shuffle about 3 or 4 weeks ago. It was a used Ebay purchase, so I had done a factory reset, which would have cleared any alarms? Also, it's the first time it's done this, so I'd expect to have come across any alarms previously. I could take a low-tech approach, and just put a cover over it in case it happens again, but does anyone have any pointers why this might have happened? If it was some sort of scheduled event at the PC end (not sure I'd know how to check - and I'm on my lunch break at work at the moment) would that make the players fire up as LMS started? I'll admit I didn't go wandering around the house at 4.30 to try and see if others had done the same. Sleep is too precious around our house to have it disturbed by random collisions between rogue electrons, so I'll either need to figure out what happened, or put a cover over the display, or switch the player off each night. Not the biggest issue - it still connects and plays OK this morning - just a bit of a pain in the ***e. Re: [slim] Player comes to life (by itself!) in the wee small hours...
It happened because it lost its connection to the server and was trying to reconnect. When you went to bed, was it connected to your local LMS, or to mysqueezebox.com? If it was LMS, it could be because the computer running LMS went into sleep/hibernate/shutdown. Or it could have been a temporary hiccup in your electricity that caused the computer running LMS or your router to restart. Or a few other possibilities. Short of covering the player, you could also turn down the brightness on the SB3. There are four levels, including completely dark, with separate settings for playing, on, and standby. Although to be honest I'm not 100% sure if the brightness settings apply to interruption events such as the one you experienced. One sure way to be sure it won't happen again is to unplug the SB3 in the bedroom. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100529 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I've just checked the SvrPwrCtrl settings, and as far as I can see the 'start of day' is set for 7am. Alternatively one of the players took a wee notion to itself to send out a WOL 'magic packet'?? Referring to your replies. I do have an mysb.com account, but almost never use it. Recently it's only been for test purposes, to check if issues were to do with the player or local LMS/network. 99.9% of the time the player is connected to a local LMS and playing my own music, or streaming Radio Paradise. I'll switch it off when I turn the lights out, and I presume the server and system hibernate themselves later. SVrpowercontrol is set to hibernate the server after 00.30hrs, but last night I did notice a message saying that the server was being suspended quite a bit earlier than that: [13-12-12 22:38:12.0096] Plugins::SrvrPowerCtrl::Util::SystemExecCmd (851) SrvrPowerCtrl executing command: C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe /C start /B scpowertool.exe --standby -q --log=C:\ProgramData\Squeezebox\Logs\srvrpowerctrl.log Though I have to confess I'm not exactly sure what these log extracts are telling me, if anything? The screensaver for 'player off' is set to 'off'. I didn't know that you could have individual settings for the screen brightness, I'll need to look into that. Actually, electricity hiccups isn't that unlikely either, we do seem to get more of those than I'd consider our fair share. So, switching it all off might just be the way to go though! All the other apps under myapps are under myapps at mysb.com. Why is Facebook showing up. (Note, even before I connected the ipad to my local network or mysb.com, the Facebook icon showed up under myapps on ipeng7. *Location 1:* VortexBox 4TB (2.2) LMS 7.8 Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) *Location 2:* VBA 3TB (2.2) LMS 7.7.2 Touch Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) *Office:* Win7(64) LMS 7.8 SqueezePlay *Spares:* VBA 4TB, SB3, Touch (3), Radio (3), CONTROLLER *Controllers:* iPhone4S (iPeng), iPad2 (iPengHD SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.8 on Win7(64) laptop Ripping (FLAC) - dbpoweramp, Tagging - mp3tag, Spotify garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100478 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Leak, iOS 7
Yes, iPeng has a few Apps of it's own. With the exception of Twitter they are essentially web site links that open in iPeng's browser although Facebook specifically does some additional handling, too. They are meant to play links from web sites on your Squeezebox so you can use this Facebook App to play those Spotify links your friends post (for example). It's been there for a while under App Gallery-iPen Apps. The reason it now shows up by default is threefold: 1. There is no longer a registration menu for Facebook. Sharing on Facebook, Twitter etc. is now done through the standard iOS control in iPeng 7 (knowing the user has iOS 7 helps so much with some things) so the whole Facebook authorization code is gone. 2. Logitech discontinued the Facebook App so some users (it had quite a number of them) might want a replacement and not everybody always visits the App Gallery. 3. It didn't really make sense to add another configuration menu for the Facebook item, now that the main menu is fully configurable and you can hide anything you like. --- learn more about iPeng, the iPhone and iPad remote for the Squeezebox and Logitech UE Smart Radio as well as iPeng Party, the free Party-App, at penguinlovesmusic.com *New: iPeng 7, the Universal App for iOS 7* pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100478 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !
garym wrote: perfect. thanks for the usb connection info. iPad with CCK is still one of the few options out there that support native 96kHz playback. Not 100% sure whether SqueezePad now supports this, too, though and I will refrain from shamelessly promoting my audiophile iThingy post blog post here. But iThingies really make for good players when used with USB audio, they even allow you to use the volume control without losing bit-perfectness since the colume information is sent separately and could be used by the dock or amp e.g. on the analog side. (Disclaimer: again, I'm not 100% sure this works with SqueezePad but in this case I'm confident, I believe SqueezePad also just changes the system volume which should do the trick). It's more difficult with the newer iThingies since AFAIK there are still _no_ docks for the lightning adaptor that support USB audio (old ones with the adapter work, but only with 48kHz). Which is a shame because Apple insists that under iOS 7 the 96 kHz output would also work with iPhones from the iPhone 5 on. --- learn more about iPeng, the iPhone and iPad remote for the Squeezebox and Logitech UE Smart Radio as well as iPeng Party, the free Party-App, at penguinlovesmusic.com *New: iPeng 7, the Universal App for iOS 7* pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80553 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Strangeness 7.7.3 IR-Blaster
After a clean install of 7.3.3; I am getting different less desirable behavior with a SB2 and IR-Blaster. Number key hold shortcuts are configured on the SB2 IR remote. Now (7.3.3): - Powering the SB2 on with the IR remote power button - SB2 turns on and IR-Blaster kicks in turning on my receiver and setting the input for the squeezebox :) - Number key #1 press and hold with the IR remote - SB2 turns on and associated shortcut starts playing saved stream, but the receiver remains off (IR-Blaster doesn't work) :( Previously (7.3.2): - Powering the SB2 on with the IR remote power button - SB2 turns on and IR-Blaster kicks in turning on my receiver and setting the input for the squeezebox :) - Number key press and hold with the IR remote - SB2 turns on, shortcut starts playing saved stream, and IR-Blaster kicks in turning on my receiver and setting the input for the squeezebox. I'm looking for troubleshooting info or help on how to get this working like it used to. Re: [slim] [Announce] iPeng 7, the iOS 7 Squeezebox App for iPhone and iPad
Hi Many thanks for this update to iPeng. I really like the new look and feel and the new features. In particular I have been hoping for the display of multiple artists for a long time, so really pleased to see this added feature. However (there is always a but isn't there...) as well as multiple artists, the now playing details at the top of the screen now show multiple artists, album artist (where different from the artist) and also any information in the composer field too. I am sure that preferences amongst users will vary, but I would much prefer just the artist field(s) to be shown. Is this possible? Keep up the good work and many thanks again! Re: [slim] [Announce] iPeng 7, the iOS 7 Squeezebox App for iPhone and iPad
Also, if I may add just a couple of other observations on the listing of multiple artists... Firstly this only seems to show up in the now playing screen and the now playing info at the top of the main screen. When browsing albums or artists, tracks with multiple artists show just one of the artists. Also in the playlist, just one artist is shown until that particular track is playing and then it changes to show all artists (and also the album artist and composer details as noted in my post above). Many thanks WhaleOil WhaleOil's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5227 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100515 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] [Announce] iPeng 7, the iOS 7 Squeezebox App for iPhone and iPad
Ahhh. I knew you can't do artists right :) WhaleOil wrote: Is this possible? Sure. A lot is possible. Then somebody else will complain :) I'm sure I can spend a few month developing a fully configurable and scriptable version that can be adapted to anybody's wishes but will be so horribly complex that everybody hates it :) The way it is now is the same way the Logitech App shows artists so probably what most people expect. WhaleOil wrote: Firstly this only seems to show up in the now playing screen and the now playing info at the top of the main screen. Yes. When browsing albums or artists, tracks with multiple artists show just one of the artists. Yes, and it's staying that way. It's a performance issue. Current playlist is especially bad. Already now it's possible to create playlists that will never completely load and bring the performance of both the App and the server pretty much down (although you have to remove the default limit of 500 tracks in the server settings for this). The same is true for albums. A single album might not be a big issue but if you open something like Various Artists-All Songs, that's a menu with some 15.000 tracks for me which has to be fully retrieved and sorted on the device, downloading it in one minute or in four makes for quite a difference and the full artist lookup is slw. :) Also in the playlist, just one artist is shown until that particular track is playing and then it changes to show all artists (and also the album artist and composer details as noted in my post above). Well, yes. Once iPeng has the information it does of course use it. Also, the current track has scrolling labels in the iPad's playlist screen saver so it can show it as well --- learn more about iPeng, the iPhone and iPad remote for the Squeezebox and Logitech UE Smart Radio as well as iPeng Party, the free Party-App, at penguinlovesmusic.com *New: iPeng 7, the Universal App for iOS 7* pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100515 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Strangeness 7.7.3 IR-Blaster
I may have posted too soon. A 2nd SB2 also using IR-Blaster works as it should. The suspect unit, is intermittant. IR-Blaster seems to always work when the power button is pressed, but may or may not work when with a long press of a number key. I will try and dig up another IR emitter to try.
