Re: [slim] You learn something new everyday
Yes replay gain tags only teaks the volume at playback . But never at a positive values because of clipping so there is a target volume lets say -10dB ( the exact value is probably something else ) so the rg tags is an offset to reach the target volume usually negative . Really well recorded stuff can have a small positive values . But I suppose a reallly large positive value trips up the algorithm so it does not dare to raise the volume to much as clipping may occur . Or also likely the volume was so very low that you needed more than 100% gain 0db at playback to match the other tracks . The player can not provide more than full volume . 3 amps is not a problem , so the power supply from/for a Squeezebox Touch would also fit for example. The Touch 230v supply seems a bit more quality than the original SB3 230v supply ( if you have a really old pre logitech supply ). Re: [slim] SBR questions
Afaik LMS sends out some UDP broadcast on port 3483 . So this port should also be open in the firewall if you have one . Sometimes both OS ( Windows ) and routers can be setup not to allow UDP broadcast/forwarding . I concur with the recommendations to use a fixed or static IP for the LMS server , especially with older players . It has the added benefit of possible workaround when the server discovery does not work as the squeezebox players has the option to simply add the server IP . How is a bit different depending on player model . SBR if you have the controller find the add remote server option . Otherwise you can specify server IP with the net udap tool. Pennies Maybe more cost in selling in a brick and mortar store with people involved. Most of the price is and was for the immaterial content . That makes 10$ not to bad for a download I pay that when a CD in a store costed more than that a decade ago heck,I paid more 20 years ago, and even today with competition from downloading CDs are often more . CD to sells in more efficient ways mail order from amazon here to you mostly pay for the content . However with sites like Bandcamp and similar there is a very low start cost no glass master ofsett print masks etc to pay for like in a Cd print. So you get a micro economy where an artist can take the risk of releasing even if his independent or does not project huge sales. So I do think roughly 8-10$ is the price for the content . If you want expensive you can buy from HD tracks in so called hirez where they upmarket the price just because thier custommers are willing to pay more for bitinflated content ? Price and manufacturing cost never has simple relationships it never had . With the advent of everything made in China for rough estimates you can say the bill of manufacturing a unit is 0 ( ok say <10% of consumer sticker price ) and price is made up of other costs and risk and development other business costs ( like having a company ) vat and vat and shipping and actually what a market would pay for a thing. Re: [slim] Syncing volume on some players but not others.
And this is probably one reason the iPeng app has its own solution to player volume when synced. IPeng has a group control , you dont sync the volume in LMS when your an iPeng user . In iPeng you simply control the relative volume of all players or the individual volume off one player thats it . The volume sync in LMS is to simple it makes all player have exactly the same volume thats not really what you want. IMO using more than half the volume knob is good the pot is more linear there , hence the azur could be sensible designed to not have to much gain ei you have to twiddle the knob more . In practice most amp has to much gain so you dont have as much margin as think , with a strong source its clips and misbehave long before you reach the and of the volume control . To much gain is usually for two reasons people can have old analog sources with 0,25-0,5 volt output or less , think cassette deck old tuner vhs player . A CD or squeezebox is about 2,0 to 2,5 volt. Re: [slim] Squeezebox classic has stopped working
Ok you got a Touch . You can try the SB3with the Touchs powersupply . If you want to use Ethernet you have to do the network setup again , not just connecting a cable . If you are close to the router it is easy to try with a short cable . No other weird issues its not rebooting itself ? If the WiFi card is failing it can get all sorts of random issues . It can be removed and there is a tread on the forum about replacing the WiFi card the tricky part is to find a similar one . Some chose to run it with Ethernet instead or use an external ap . Re: [slim] Squeezebox classic has stopped working
That could be a WiFi problem it's getting iffy with anything but 100% signal strength 58% as you have may suffice for low rate MP3 can be that LMS transcodes pandora then again you are at flac rates , and server is also a bit old 7.9.1 is out now but thats probably unrelated to the problems. Test to do . Run the player wired with Ethernet . Also the pc with the server is it also wired ? If its working fine on Ethernet you may beging the tedious process faultracing and improving WiFi or just accept that and go with Ethernet. But its probably not bad for what it is :) they do sell it with a 60 watt power adapter . Some other users here know more about chip amps , some are well regarded , again for what they are . Re: [slim] About to replace Hifiberry DAC/Cambridge Azur 340a with Hifiberry AMP2 - Thoughts?
A real measurement is usually 20hz-20kHz continues at speced distortion say 0,01% both channels driven at the same time. At 8ohms speaker impedance . These 25 watts can be peak short term at 1khz 1% distortion at 4 ohm . Some even add the 2 channels together to have more watts ? If you cant find better specs , look at the power adapter/wallwart for a clue divide by 4 for a ballpark figure. These small class D amps they usually bend the specifications into to pure fantasy. Your old Cambridge is large for a reason. It produces 50 real Watts room size and speakers and listening habits predict your amplifier needs too . A 5 watt direct from internet class d chip amp is usually sold as 20-30 watt depending on how they spec . AndyTwizzle wrote: > What should that achieve? And what do the other stream type options do? For the AAC exemple it would NOT send AAC to the players it would pick one of the remaining alternatives (in qualaity order and if the player supports it) It would then try to send FLAC and doing that by using faad/flac helper apps and then convert the sound to flac on the server . For ALAC it would try to use faad/sox . These are just a list of options for how the server could handle each file formats. And it would chose the "best" option for a given situation. It would naturally pick "native" first if the player supports the format by or otherwise it would choose to transcode to a format the player can deal with. In 99 of use cases you should not change this. In you case we want you to deliberatly disable native playback of AAC and ALAC to see if the server does a better jobb with gaps as its decoder migth be better. On the original topic . 30-50% wifi strength is not good enough it's till marginal close to 100% is reliable . LMS does not measure this in a good way I would say 50% is not good . Re: [slim] The King is dead;-)
Its also very much suitable for streaming if you you want a freeish codec other than ogg . Yes 320k is pretty much not possible to tell from FLAC or WAV . Caveat use server side decoding , the mp3 decoders in for example SB3 et al are not perfect ive clearly heard artefacts there Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Re: [slim] How to: Pink Noise Loop ???
Why not use mysqueezebox.com and play a radio station ? Transducers (speakers, headphones) can maybe benefit , from this . Electronics not so much . Otherwise it's usually the user that gets "burned in" as one slowly acclimate one self to the new component Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Exactly as i says ,its sent as plain text from for example a browser on your phone to your server . To be intercepted by who knows. And the security in LMS is not the strongest kind anyhow... But social engineering is also a thing , people reuse passwords even if you should not it's very very likely that someone uses the same passwords as they always do .
