There's 2 software players on Android that both work well and I'd
recommend either of them TBH

Squeeze player
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.bluegaspode.squeezeplayer

Squeezebox player
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.angrygoat.android.sbplayer

I use the first one because I bought it ages ago and it still works
perfectly but the second one seems to be still actively developed so
might be my choice now.

I use an old LG phone with the excellent quad DAC and wired headphones
as a headphone dedicated player. Works extremely well.

Re: [slim] New Logitech Squeezebox 2020 Edition

2021-05-26 Thread jimbobvfr400

If you're finding you use Alexa with an Echo speaker then you can get
much better audio quality simply by plugging your Echo to your stereo,
there's a 3.5mm analogue output in the back which while it's not exactly
the best quality will still be much better through your stereo.

The disadvantage of using your speaker this way is that all audio is
sent via the output of it's plugged in, you'll only hear Alexa respond
when the stereo is on, this is easily solved by simply adding an extra
device (wait til the sales and add a cheap echo dot to your stereo)

You can use your existing echo to ask for music to play on the Dot
connected to the stereo, you can even set your other speaker to default
music playback on the stereo Echo Dot if you wanted.

You can do a similar thing in the Google infrastructure, however none of
the Google speakers have a line out, if you can find a Chromecast Audio,
sadly.nonlonger available new, or use a HDMI from a normal Chromecast,
you can request music on the Chromecast using your voice, and again set
any smart speaker to default music playback to the Chromecast Audio.

Chromecasts of all types (including Google smart speakers) can all be
used as extra squeezebox zones as well if you install the absolutely
excellent Chromecast bridge plugin so a Chromecast audio can really give
you the best of both worlds.

Well an 2nd hand radio with a battery or a UE Smart radio would do the
job for an portable LMS player.

Do you have any sort of mobile device like an tablet or phone? The
wireless speakers are really sold to connect to such a device. You can
then turn this device into a squeezebox player with the appropriate
software.

I want a portable speaker for my own back yard. I intend to have an old
Android phone plugged in in the dining room with squeezeplayer. I will
then have a BT speaker I can use in the back garden. I will use my
android tablet for control but could also have this as the player but
don't want to have the battery drain.

Agreed. My LMS (7.9 running on an o2 joggler that also doubles up as 1

them Logitech hardware anymore and also feeds a couple of DNLA devices
for music and movies.

For DNLA purposes it is slightly inconvenient having to do a scan every

Re: [slim] Can I use the Spotify app to initiate playback to my server/player?

2014-05-03 Thread jimbobvfr400

If you see you use the proper Spotify program on your PC you can use
several different spotify remote apps to control it on your phone
(android at least, I don't know about iOS)

For example
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jbl.android.spotimote

Or you could use any SB control app to control SqueezePlayer.

Personally I like using SqueezePlayer on my PC for local playback
because it cooperates very nicely with the rest of my SBs and LMS.
However if you're only using Spotify you might be better off with the
official app as it offers extra features not available on either the
official or 3rd party spotify implementations on LMS

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...

2014-04-08 Thread jimbobvfr400

So it's not actually an Android device, I rather suspect SqueezePlayer
needs some sort of more direct access to the audio api/hardware than the
compatibility layer on the Jolla OS provides.

There is another alternative app that has basically the same
functionality called SB Player, might be worth a try
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.angrygoat.android.sbplayer

SB Player requires later versions of Android so may use the audio in a
different way, worth a go at least.

If your files have replay gain tags in them then LMS will do exactly

I believe either DBPoweramp or Foobar2000 can help with tagging the

Re: [slim] Logitech Android Squeezebox controller app - doesn't show album art

2014-03-18 Thread jimbobvfr400

I think you may be right about the password causing this. I don't
normally use the Logitech app as Orange Squeeze and Squeeze Commander
are far superior in my opinion.

So I installed the Logitech app on my Nexus 7. Accessed a few albums and
confirmed artwork was available. Then I enabled the password on LMS 7.8
and sure enough no albumart.

Funnily enough those albums I'd accessed before did show artwork even
with the password enabled, however other albums didn't.

There might be a workaround that if you disable the password. Go to
Album view and scroll right to the bottom this will allow the caching of
art work in the app. Then reenable the password. No idea if that would
work though.

The other thing I'd say is personally I wouldn't rely on the LMS
password, depending on why you want to use it. If it's for external
access you might be better of dealing with the security via SSH
tunneling or similar.

Some of the Android DLNA apps do allow streaming of some on line stuff
to a renderer device. Not sure how well they work though. Additionally
there are apps that leverage DNLA streaming from Google music, not sure
there's an equivalent for Spotify though.

Personally I use Airplay, which requires a rooted tablet and my main
Squeezebox isn't a squeezebox but an O2 Joggler which runs Shairplay
as well as Squeezeplay and Squeezelite. It works very well for the
occasional use.

The Zeus-admin you mention is actually a rather nasty Trojan used for
botnets, stealing passwords and other stuff.

However what I think is happening here is Fing is seeing legitimate
traffic on port 9090, which if I recall correctly is used by LMS and its
players for control (port 9090 is used for CLI stuff by LMS)

So I'd say this is a false positive from Fing. A quick Google seems to
suggest this isn't uncommon and I've a seen posts elsewhere asking a

I can get both versions depending on the contents of the now playing
play list but it is incredibly inconsistent and seemingly easily
confused.

For this reason I actually normally have play as the default option.

With the various options I have set in LMS this means if nothing is
already playing then tapping a track plays it and continues playing the
rest of the album. If I then tap a different track while still playing I
then get the 4 option list you mention.

Before I upgraded to 7.8 I only got the long list if prompt was the
selected default.

I actually think it's possible to get the exact behaviour you want.

Set Orange Squeeze to default to play. Don't use the prompt option at
all
Set the option in LMS to always ask before playing your selection

In theory this should do what you want.

2013-12-28 Thread jimbobvfr400

What version of LMS are you using, 7.8 by any chance?

I think the 4 option menu you describe is the one you get when the
defeat destructive play option is enabled, this only happens if already
playing something. The longer menu is the normal one you get with that
option set in OrangeSqueeze when nothing is playing.

TBH you don't necessarily need whitebear. I personally use the built in
DNLA plugin. I know its generally regarded as a waste of disc space and
to be avoided if possible but I've had no issues with it. The menu on a
DNLA device shows pretty much the same options you'd get when browsing
on a squeezebox and AFAIK it also does transcoding, at least my FLAC
will play on the PS3 and show as PCM in the more info bit on the
PlayStation.

So am I right in saying it's only when in the dock you get the pop? Does
Squeezeplayer do the same if just connected directly to the the amp, how
about if you use the input on the amp you used for a direct connection
with the dock.

Again apologies if I'm misunderstanding what happens but it sounds like
either the dock or the amp input is the common factor so far. It could
be a faulty dock I guess.

I don't recall that happening on mine.

Does the same thing happen with other audio on the desire? Might be
worth loading a few tunes on a memory card and trying the stock player
to see if it's SqueezePlayer or the phone producing the noise.

What amp are you using. Your description of receiver reminds me of a
previous AV Receiver I owned, if you used an input that also had an
associated digital input the receiver would try and lock on to the
digital input 1st so you'd often get a pop when it switched to the
analogue signal. The receiver concerned had some specific analogue only
inputs that didn't do that, just a thought.

Depends on the OS of the smartphone.

If its Android there's 2 apps available that do playback. Squeeze Player
and SB Player.
If its iOS then iPeng has an in app purchase for playback.

All of those options will work very similarly to any other player,
however certain streaming apps only work on real hardware and sync won't
be as reliable or accurate.

SB Player I believe is 4.0+ anyway. So Squeezeplayer is the one by
default.

I personally use Squeezeplayer on several different devices including an
old desire Z with 2.3 and it is brilliant, although I do sometimes sync
with other players it's not in a location where you can hear both
players at the same time so I don't know how accurate sync is.

You're welcome.

If it helps here's a market link

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.bluegaspode.squeezeplayer

And also one for SB Player, which does seem to have more features and
could possibly be a better option, however I'm 99% sure it doesn't
support 2.3. I've not tried it myself because I'd already purchased
Squeezeplayer.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.angrygoat.android.sbplayer

Depending on how you plan to use Squeezeplayer I'd also suggest Orange
Squeeze as a control app on the desire Z. That way you'll have a display
and control locally. Orange Squeeze integrates squeezeplayer into the
player selection menu and offers an option to automatically start
squeeze player when it starts. Other Android control apps will require
the player app to be started manually

If you're hiding the desire away and only controlling it with other
devices then it may be wise to get squeezeplayer starting automatically
on boot. The link below will help with that.

http://www.squeezeplayer.com/2013/05/start-squeezeplayer-on-startup/

OT a bit, but IMO the Z is quite possibly the best built phone I've ever
owned, I was also a bit dubious of the hinge being a weak point but no
such problems, mine was abused and used frequently as a torch in my job
as an Electrician with no problems. I'm sure it could probably function
as a hammer its that solid. :-)

You can change the tap action settings in the preferences which will

For the radio you could go low tech and just use the line in with your
phone or tablet.

I actually think this is the one Sonos feature that surpasses anything
on LMS, you can use a Sonos line in to stream to any other Sonos zones
which is nice.

Personally I use Airplay but with all 3rd party hardware. My main
playback devices are O2 Joggers running squeezeplay and Sharply and I
then have an app called AOA (Airplay on Android) which requires a rooted
device.

Another option is to connect an Android device directly to your stereo,
if you have a spare device use that and then run a remote app to control
it from your main device.

You would think Google would go all out to have people using their

Maybe they see it as a selling point for their OS and associated
