The biggest portable audio listeners today are not interested in such thing and there are already plenty of those products on the market. The majority of these people are even not interested in hi-res music and are very happy with mp3 alike formats. Secondly, is he really helping high quality music? I don't think so because his answer seems to be hi-res music formats. That is not a guarantee for quality music. If you want quality music then one needs to address the poor quality recordings and poor mastering process used today. I like it that someone wants to step up and try to make improvements. But from what I've seen so far from this Pono project, I fear that Neal Young's project will miss its goal. You miss my point. He can't change everything that's wrong with music formats and he has chosen this way to try to introduce people to a better format. Many people don't even know that there is better than mp3. I love the fact that this will play mp3 so that people can use their existing music and maybe take baby steps into better quality. You seem to think that unless he changes everything that's wrong, then what he is doing is worthless. I applaud him for trying. I'm never going to 'actively' listen to music on my portable devices, but I will do so on my stereo at home. And if this is about quality, then why bother with hi-res formats? Hi-res is not a guarantee for high quality music. If quality is important then young should be talking to the music industry and try to get them 1) make good quality recordings and mixes and 2) stop compressing the hell out of the music. You mean he needs to do what you want and only what you want, regardless if he feels he's doing something good to help music quality. Then add a COMPILATION tag (with a value of 1 without the quotes). Then in SbS settings select the option of listing compilation albums together (or something similar). Then do a clear and rescan within SbS. When you're done, you should have an artist listing of VARIOUS ARTISTS, and under this a single compilation album named Mixed Singles then under this all these songs, with track artists correct. But maybe I don't understand exactly what you're trying to do. I guess I think of the world as rip all my CDs to FLAC, tag them all properly, with album art, then play the songs I want to play. I wouldn't want to just rip my favorite songs and create a giant best of mix tape for myself. I can use playlists to do the same things BASED ON having ALL the song tracks in my library. [slim] Adding an album by folder view.
Just lately I've noticed that adding albums by playing them from the music folder isn't working correctly. I've used this method for quite a time with no problems but now that I've updated to 7.5.1 it's not reliable. One album that I added put every song as a separate album and the another made two albums exactly the same except for the name. I wonder why this is happening. I've avoided running the scan for about a year before this started. I'd rather not have to scan if I don't need to. Once I ran the clear and scan both albums were correct so it wasn't a tag problem. The arrange audio function of dbpoweramp is pretty handy for moving (caution-not copying)your albums from one disc or folder to another. If you rip or buy music you can have it move the tracks and build folders based on your criteria. Once I have it set up for my folder and file structures it's just like the ripper and will use your tags as you want your folders to be. Just start it and does the work from then on. [slim] Norton firewall and antivirus
Just for some info. I used to love Norton Utilities. It was the coolest program around back in the 90's. Very handy and did a lot of things that other programs didn't. Then they expanded to firewalls and anti virus and everything else and got a bad rep for being bad and a resource hog. I tried it and I had to agree and stayed away from all of their programs for years. I finally tried Norton 360, the first version. While it had some nice things it was very flakey and not reliable. I wrote to them and told them what I thought and finally they released 2.0 which was much better. Even though they had improved it still was a resource hog and I gave up on it. After about 3 months and needing an all around program I tried the Norton Security. It worked wonderful and had no problems with my SB3 or with resources. I've used it ever since as my fire wall, antivirus and utilities and have not had a problem. My reason for writing this is that I really badmouthed Norton for a number of years and just want it to be known that they really have done a good job over the last three years. I feel if I'm going give a bad name to someone and they work to make it be better then I'd better also say when they do a good job. So for 3 years now it has been very good with my SB3 and I hope they keep it up. Not one problem with my SB3 or any other program that I run. I've tried Norton 360 and it was fine, but I seem to like the Internet Security version better. It seems like it is better for the more advanced users, not that I'm that advanced or anything. Pardon me for posting this but I feel I owe them a bit for some of my harshness and I'm happy to see a company do well by it's customers. I hope they keep it up. -- Nonreality -IF THE RULE YOU FOLLOWED BROUGHT YOU TO THIS, OF WHAT USE IS THE RULE.- HTTP://www.last.fm/user/nonreality Nonreality's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15723 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=75921 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

So what iremebered of XP was that use of system resources was creeping upwards all the time. If you run some other OS i supose 512mB would actually be more than ok. Have you done the streaming test lately how fast does it go close to 3000kBs is expected on an SB3 If one want to test the server trothle up the network test on all players. An bad example I know on my old XP partition i could never reach above 1500kBs but I think that was Nortons doing that something had gone really bad about the way my computer handled ip traffic, i tried other firewalls but once Norton has been installed in a system it's forever fubare'd . Tried ubuntu on the same hardware worked splendidly. I never seen any similar report on how to fault trace that. Is XP known to having problems with moving data fast ? Multiboot is a possible way to try things on slow machines (othervise virtual machines or good). I have an Ubuntu partition and one XP partition. You can do this with any combination you can run 2 different XP partitions too ? that's a way to see if it is the OS or hardware thats misbehave. If I understand you right then yes my results are 100% as far as the test go. It only has about 20 feet to go so not a long distance. I admit I've shied away from flac ever since i've had problems with it. So right now I'm playing some flac music without a problem to test it out. As far as using mysqueezebox.com it still only works while my server machine is operating. The minute that it is off the SB3 says it can not connect to the server? It's not a huge deal now but could be in the future. So far the flac is playing correctly so maybe I have overreacted to a problem that has been fixed. If so I'm sorry to have brought it up again. I use dbpoweramp but any good program like foobar or dbpoweramp that uses replay gain as it is supposed to be used is going to do what it is supposed to do. Now some people use mp3gain and without thinking have it alter the music instead of just the tags and then later also apply replay gain. Thats when you get into trouble because you have double the replay gain that is intended. It basically sounds like crap. But used correctly replay gain is great! There may be some times when you may not want it with some classical, but you can easily turn it off. It was almost as if the person was saying I could care less and I'm not going to do anything about it, if it matters to you, you need to act on it. It seemed dismissive to me, and perhaps bordering on rude (there's the tie in to the thread). I guess maybe that's not intended. Thanks again. I used to think that too, Goodsounds. Then I realized that it was probably due to either the employee not being responsible for that type of problem or that they were reading the forum on their own time and not in a position do detail it out for others. It made sense then to me that they would want to make sure it got made aware of to the correct people that needed to see it and also having it come straight from the person having the problem and not having things lost in translation by a second party. But I can also see that for a lot of people filing a bug report can be a bit intimidating. It is a bit confusing on saving your bug report. I also know that sometimes I feel that someone else has probably already filed it and I wonder if I'm creating a mess by filing it again. The problem with itunes is that if you do have a problem it's usually a huge problem where it has corrupted files or more. It's a nice program with too much overhead, doesn't work well with external hard drives and likes to do everything it's own way. I'd much rather use dbpoweramp with mp3tag and if needed for organizing, mediamonkey. The above problems will never happen in this setup.
