I'm not surprised at all, frankly. Changing the filename doesn't really
change anything aside from a few characters of text. If an image is of
some slightly different type that the server exects, for example,
filename won't affect that data. Point to a subdir as your music
folder, rescan and try that. Then try another and another. try
splitting it in half. my library of 1200 albums is primarily cover.jpg,
and as I have said before, no crash on win2k or winxp with the latest
6.5.1 nightly build. But, my data isn't your data.

Any wiser?
sadly, that's pretty much a helpless cry of despair from the perl
interpreter used to build SlimServer for windows. There is one other
report of this being a problem when the album sorting is set to
something other than the default album. You might consider trying a
smaller test library, adding albums bit by bit to see if it is related
to the library contents. So far, it's not something that is easily
reproduced or diagnosed...only a source of frustration and fuel for
ire for the users who run into it. On my setup, it seem to work fine
aside form the known issue of the pages not matching up with the
letters indices.

I'd suggest contacting [EMAIL PROTECTED] so they can collect

Thanks, everyone, for your help. Skunk, your suggestion led to a
solution. After doing the reinstall, I realized that the problem must
be in the way the art files were being handled by Windows. I went back

advanced button. There's a box to check to always show extension.
That was the key. I had manually renamed my files cover.jpg, and

after hitting that box, they became cover.jpg.jpg. So when I removed
the middle .jpg and did a rescan, the artwork showed up. Had to change

naming option on TagRename, so the files should be good as I download
the rest. I hate to think how much time I spent working out this one

the key log lines for that start with looking for.., and will mention

Another thread on artwork mentioned having better results when turning
iTunes off (I guess it is yet another iTunes upgrade).

Also take note of the difference when using browse artwork vs
navigating down to a single track on the songinfo page. You'll get
artwork there too, but it is brought up live instead of through the
scanning. If you see artwork there, and not in browse Artwork then
that helps narrow it down. If you don't see artwork, then usually
something is wrong with the artwork tags, artwork file name or the
artwork itself. Perhaps check that you have cover.jpg, and not
cover.JPG.

What's the difference between the artwork tags and artwork file names?
I changed the file name to cover.jpg. How do I check the tag?

some tagging programs allow you to add artwork to the file in the same
way that you set artist/title/album etc. TagRename is a good one for
checking and setting. The logs show that the server was looking for
files, so I don't think you have any tags interfering. If an artwork
tag is found in the audio file, the server will skip the looking for
images files in... bit.

what was your art filename before?

There are several options for filenames, but the are case sensitive.
Check the wiki for details, you can searh for artwork

must have the extension. I'm sure that will solve your issue. Tagging
isn't required, but some people like to have it all in tags and set
during ripping. Also, you might want to have certain songs override
the album art. This wont affect browse by artwork, since that is one
pic per album, but at the track level (songinfo, and now playing for
some skins) you might prefer a different picture for that song. This
can be done by adding the art in a tag. Side effect, however, the
first track scanned set the pic for the album if you use tags.

What you do with all of that, is up to your imagination.

I actually did that for a couple of files before a total rescan, but
the art still did not show up. I'll try doing some others. Is there
an easy way to accomplish this, or do I have to change them one-by-one
by renaming the file? Also, let me make certain I have this perfectly
clear: I need 300x300 artwork titled cover.jpg and 100x100 artwork
titled thumb.jpg in each album file?

a cover.jpg of any size is all you'd need. or folder.jpg, thumb.jpg
album.jpg, etc

The server does some very basic search order changes to get the likely
smaller image for thumbnails, but will happily take whatever it does
find. Recent 6.5 builds resize the image on the fly so that the page
doesn't have to keep oading large images.

Yeah rescans seem FAST on reinstall... and NEVERENDING from the server

I gave up and named my cover art, 'cover.jpeg', but I have all songs
from one album in one directory.

Did you try '%ARTIST, ALBUM, cover' in the server CP?
A more conventional scheme I think is '%ARTIST - ALBUM'

note the list of files that slimserver checks with, or without, a
filename specified in the server settings-interface. The Nokia skin
is using the same url to get artwork as any of the others. viewing the
source for the artwork page is not a valid way to track the artwork
filename, since the thumb.jpg in the url is simply an alias to the real
artwork, either on the drive or in the track metadata.

debugging via d_artwork while running a wipe library and rescan will

prior to 6.5 but only picks up some 'cover.jpg'. Not exactly sure how
to do an attachment for the log.txt that I got for the debug, but any
help would be much appreciated.

start by finding a section of the log that covers one of the albums
that you are not seeing artwork for, but are certain that you should
have something.

check for the looking for artwork and any found... messages. paste
that section to a post if you like. The log will show the album title
that it is using, which could be wrong somewhow, and where it is
lookign for files/tags. The answer might be obvious, or it might not.

Also, click on one of the albums that is missing artwork and see if you
get the art when you list the tracks on that album. If you do, then
the log will show you the process of finding that artwork whenever you
load the track list. Only the browse by artwork page is done during
scan (since there are so many covers to handled at once).

Make sure, too, that you are setting BOTH artwork prefs correct. There
is an Artwork setting and an Artwork Thumbnail setting. the Thumbnail
is for the browse by artwork, and the other setting covers the album
pages, songinfo and the now playing section of some skins.

Make sure you report OS, and have tried the latest nightly with teh

Attach your prefs file ( in case the artwork settings need to be replicated)
Attach a larger section of the log (same section, but add a few more
