Re: [slim] Switching Between Server MySqueezebox.com

2011-07-17 Thread chorister

Many thanks for that - it does work, but like all the switching methods
I have tried (squeeze commander, SBS web interface) the receiver sits
in a kind of limbo after the switch (i.e. not connected to either SBS
or mySB) until I unplug it then plug it in again. Then it connects to
whichever server was selected.

Anyone else experienced this?, or have a workaround other than pulling
the plug every time, which is rather tedious!

I don't understand why you would keep switching... if you have a proper
SBS server, why not use it all the time? MSB is really for people
without local servers.

Re: [slim] Switching Between Server MySqueezebox.com

2011-07-17 Thread chorister

My SBS is on my desktop PC which isn't left on all the time. I was
hoping that the SBR could switch to MSB when the PC is off.
The other thing is that when the SBS (PC) is shutdown, the SBR goes
blue (I know this is normal) but won't reconnect automatically when SBS
is back online until unplugged/plugged in again.

Anyway its not a disaster, everything still works with a bit of
plugging/unplugging. Yes I could leave the PC on, or get a NAS...

Cheers

I think such a function makes perfect sense. Actually the squeezeboxes
should switch to whatever server is configured and available while
there should be a priority list if more than one server is configured.
Also should display something like no server available if for example
mysqueezebox.com and the own server(s) are not available. Don't know
what seems to be so difficult to implement such a function and why lot
of people need to switch the squeezeboxes manually. Really bad
usability issue in an otherwise very user friendly and easy to use
schema. Reagrds, Juergen

Are you running some sort of firewall? My Duet was highly temperamental
on switching and firewalling surely wasn't helping.
Also I think I found relief once by removing the player from mySB and
adding it again.
You could try using the Server Power Control plugin (thread in 1/3
party plugins subforum) it tries to swtch players (including the Duet)
and you should get menus on the remote to, eg switch to mySB and
suspend the server.

Re: [slim] Switching Between Server MySqueezebox.com

2011-07-17 Thread bluegaspode

There is another bug with switching back: your server remembers the IP
address of the computer, when the server starts. If it changes later
(because of a sleeping server and a router that later assigns a new IP)
the server tells MySB.com its old address and the player tries to
connect to this old address but fails.
You can check if this is the case by calling ipconfig on your server
computer to see its real IP address. Then enter the
settings/information screen of squeezeboxserver to see what IP the
server is showing you.
If its different indeed configure your router to assign a static IP to
your server.
I created a bug report about that just yesterday but am on the road
right now and can't look it up.

Re: [slim] Switching Between Server MySqueezebox.com

2011-07-17 Thread Mnyb

Normally it should not be a problem for the receiver to find the server
again after a server reboot, it should not stay blue but shift to dull
white, this works for most of us ?

Assuming you have choosen the reciever as a player on the controller,
if press my music does the reciever then finds the server ?

This suggest some oddity in the network setup .

I have always done just that, turned off the server and powered it up
again later, all my players and controllers have then found the server
again, no problem .
But I use a very simple network (192.168.1.x , 255.255.255.0) and use
static ip on everything stationary .
My router is the old linksys WRT54GL with tomato fw, no internal
firewall family filters (urgh) guest networks or other stupidities
that makes it more confusing and harder to setup and a bunch of
switches, most stuff conects thru the switches .

Things to try if you want to tinker a bit.

Set the server to a true static ip adress (when doing that, adjust the
routers dhcp range so that it can not give out used adresses ).

Set players and controllers to true static ip, requires more tinkering,
but search the forum for instructions .

You may need to describe your network to see if someone has any
insights .

Some people that set up their receiver with netudap has described
similar problems ? (I did not have them when i had a reciever ).

Re: [slim] Switching Between Server MySqueezebox.com

2011-07-17 Thread chorister

Thanks for all the suggestions: you are right it was a network issue all
along.
Maybe because I was using UDAP and not the SBC for setup.

Anyway problem was solved by:
- assigning static IP to SBS and SBR via the wifi router interface
- setting lan_ip_mode=0
- setting the lan_gateway to the router IP address
- setting network_lan_address to the SBR static IP

So now it is automatically connecting to SBS when the PC is rebooted,
and the switching between SBS and MSB is going smoothly.

Again, many thanks for all the suggestions (and apologies that we ended
up a bit off topic).

Cheers

Is there any way to switch apart from using the SBC?
I'm using squeeze commander but there is a bug which requires the
receiver to be reset after switching.
Would be nice to be able to switch from within SBS interface.

To go from SBS to mysb on the SBS web interface, simply go to the
left-side pane and select Extras Music Source mysqueezebox.com.

To go back from mysb.com to SBS, first disconnect the player from mysb
(do-able via the Players tab on mysb.com), then use the drop-down menu
on the upper right of SBS to pull the player back to SBS. Note that
there has been a bug that has prevented this from working with the
Radio and Touch -- I don't honestly know if it's fixed or not.
