And here's the RFC saying it's wrong: rfc4120 (from that thread).

Many SSH servers (by default) reject connections from IP addresses without
PTRs.
This is stupid.
I heard applause during the WG meeting in response to these statements;
sounded like consensus to me. I said I would check that consensus on list.

We discussed this in Toronto, and there seemed to be a positive response
to the question, "Is this work we should undertake in
this WG?"
There were two pointers, to
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-andrews-dnsop-pd-reverse-02 and to the
Homenet naming work.
I'm editing to add those references; is

Thanks for the lively discussion!
Here's what I heard, in addition to several useful, non-controversial text
suggestions:

You may remember this draft from a couple of years ago. People keep asking
me what a residential ISP should do for IPv6 PTR records, and I keep
repeating what's in the draft.
The intent is to document existing solutions, since prepopulating PTRs like
we did in IPv4 doesn't work. Last time I broug
I apologize for waiting until the last minute to make updates.
Earlier versions of this draft have been discussed on-list and at the last
two IETF

Comments from the last meeting were as follows; I think I have responded to
all of them in the new draf
Thank you, these are excellent suggestions.
In particular, you raise several points that require clarification; I will
try to respond in the near future.
