[Dx4win] Upgrade from 7.05 to 8.02 - missing QSO data
With apologies if this has been asked and answered on this forum in the past, but here's my issue: I just upgraded to 8.02 from 7.05, but in the process, my notes for each dx station worked prior to upgrading (typically the operator's name and QTH) did not get carried over into the new version. Is there some way to belatedly retrieve this data and incorporate it into the upgraded logbook? Thanks for the help! 73, Jim W1YY/7 __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] 30 meter spots
For some reason since I upgraded to 8.02 every spot on 30 meters shows up highlighted in green, even where I have already worked that country on 30 meters, and in many cases, that particular station. Any idea what's causing this? 73, Jim W1YY/7 __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] Lost 8.02 log after uninstalling unrelated (??) programs
Help! I use an older Sony Vaio desktop as my radio computer, and run DX4WIN (8.02, which I upgraded from 7.05 a month ago). I saved my contacts as recently as yesterday morning. Last last night I uninstalled some programs I no longer use on that computer (like Microsoft Office, etc.). None of them were related to DX4WIN as far as I know. However, after rebooting the computer, when I try to open DX4WIN, I get an error message which says dx4win.exe - application error -- The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click OK to terminate this application. The older version of DX4WIN (7.05) opens with no problem, but it means I've lost all the log data since I upgraded, among other things. I have tried several times to do a system restore, but after the process has run, each time I get a message saying the process could not be completed successfully. I am not a computer wizard, as you can probably tell. Any suggestions as to how to get my Version 8.02 back? __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] Slow response time in logging function when changing bands/modes
I am running an FT-1000MP Mark V, and just replaced replaced my old Sony radio-dedicated desktop computer (Windows XP) with a new Dell desktop (Windows 7). Unlike the old Sony, the new Dell only has one COM port, which I have to use for the monitor. So the radio is now connected to the computer using a USB to RS232 adapter cable. I don't think it's relevant to this issue, but at the same time that I changed computers, I upgraded from DX4WIN 8.02 to 8.04. Because of the new arrangement with the serial to USB adapter, the response time in the logging function when changing bands is now much slower to reflect the change in band/mode, which is an issue in contests, etc., where rapid band/mode changes are necessary. FYI - it was necessary to change from COM1 to COM4 to synchronize DX4WIN with the radio. Are there any ways to approach the problem other than what I have done that would result in a faster response time? Are there any other settings I should have changed other than just the COM port? Please bear in mind that you are talking to a non-techie! Thanks in advance for any help. 73, Jim W1YY/7 __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] Slow response time in logging function when changingbands/modes
One clarification to my email - the adapter I am using is called a USB-A to serial cable, not a USB to RS232 adapter. Sorry for any confusion. [Dx4win] Unwanted spots
Is there any way to completely eliminate spots for unwanted bands (for example, 2 meters and 6 meters) in the dx spots window? Right now they appear in grey, but I'd like to block them out completely. I'm using v. 8.04. Re: [Dx4win] Unwanted spots
Kjell, thanks for the response. I had already done what you described -- I checked only the bands/modes I want to see in Packet3, but spots for all of the unchecked bands and modes are also appearing (in grey). If I recall correctly, in 8.02 I only saw grey spots for stations I had already worked in the same band/mode (in the bands/modes I had checked in Packet3), but since I upgraded to 8.04 yesterday, I'm seeing grey spots for all the bands/modes that I had not checked in Packet3. The result is that most of the spots on the screen at any one time are unwanted spots, and the spots bands/modes I do want to see scroll off the screen too quickly. Any further thoughts? [Dx4win] Packet Spots Filter Question
I just ran into a glitch with DX4Win (8.04). It had been operating without any problems, when suddenly, yesterday, when I logged on I got all kinds of error messages (which I should have written down, but didn't), and then instead of the regular screen, I got the old demo screen. After some effort I managed to get out of the demo mode and restore the proper DX4Win screens and parameters, my logbook, etc., but a weird problem remains: all of the packet spots are in light grey, as if they are all being filtered out, even though I selected the bands and modes I wanted in Preferences, Packet3. Can someone suggest how to cure the problem? [Dx4win] Same Call Window
Recently the same call window has been suddenly disappearing from my screen, with no particular catalyst that I can identify. I then have to go back into the window menu each time to bring it up again. Any thoughts on what might be causing this? Re: [Dx4win] W1DV looking for help
Dave I am having the exact same problem since belatedly upgrading to Windows 10 on my radio computer, except that after I click through those same two error messages you are getting, DX4WIN comes up, albeit with some errors regarding current band and mode, etc. on my FTDX-5000. Jim, AD1C, told me he had not heard of the issue before, but if you and I have had the same problem, I suspect others have had it too. I'd be interested to hear about any replies you get with suggested fixes.
