Hello Luciano,

Look at your EA6AM.~XL file.  It is a backup that is automatically created
by dx4win and it will probably have your missing QSOs.

FIRST - save your ex8am.dxl file on a USB drive, or someplace other than the
folder where you keep your log file.
THEN - rename the ea8am.~xl file to ea8am.dxl, open it and see if it has the
missing QSOs.  GL.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what is going on with your submission - but - 
if you have more than one QSO that qualifies for a band/mode/award slot, dx4win 
and LoTW frequently choose different QSOs.  I think one of them choses the most 
recent and the other choses the earliest QSO.  

 

It really doesn't matter which individual QSO is marked as being credited, as 
long as the numbers add up.  You can use AD1C's Compare DX4Win to LoTW utility 
to check this.  https://ad1c.us/dx4win/lotw/ 

 

If you are unusually fussy and geeky (like me ), you can manually change which 
QSO is selected.  In LoTW you must do it before the submission; in dx4win it 
can be done after the fact.  I have done both.

Hello Josep,

DX4WIN does not have an easy way to do this.  There is a program called ADIF
Master (or something like that) that allows easy editing of ADIF files.  You
would have to delete the QSOs from dx4win, edit the ADIF file, and re-import
them.  GL.

I think we have to change each field individually. I sure hope XU7GNY gets
proper documentation into the DXCC Desk because he gave me two new Challenge
points.

It's possible that the League will let those credits stand because it would
be a huge task for them to remove them all.  Similar things have happened in
the past.

that band.  Now it appears that the DXCC desk is not going to revoke credits
already given, so I would like to return that QSO to valid status.

I have not found a way yet to mark QSOs valid that were marked invalid -
anyone have any hints?

I have not yet tried deleting everything and manually re-entering the data.

When you re-install dx4win, it uses an older version (I forget the exact
version number, but it's 9.0.3.something).  Do Help > Check for Updates and
the program will update itself to v 9.0.9.1259, which is the current
version.  (guess how I know this???)

I thought that I had goofed up another program (not DX4WIN) and restored my
Windows 10 Pro computer to an earlier date. After doing this, I found that
DX4WIN no longer worked.

In the past, when Microsoft would update my computer, DX4WIN would not run,
so I would uninstall the program, re-install it and my two log files would
be in the new installation.

Now I find that I cannot open either logbook. I get an error message, saying
"ERROR: This logfile requires a later version (P)" and there is a box to
click "OK"

Any ideas on what I can do to take care of this problem? Thank you!

Congrats on your new callsign.

I have six different callsigns (all USA) and keep ALL of my QSOs in one log
file.  (I only have continental US activity)  They all count the same for
DXCC and WAZ.  If you only have one location, they also all count the same
for WAS and VUCC.  If you move to a new state or grid, simply set the start
date for those awards to the date you moved.  It is easy to set up a
selection (Filter > Selection > Date Selection) to get separate data for
each callsign.

This is the first time I remember Jim posting a question on here.  Usually
he is the one answering!

Unfortunately, Listing Worked shows all the countries you have worked for
DXCC on any band.  It only displays the single band column.  It works the
same way for Grids, States, and Zones.  I don't know if that's a bug in the
program, or if this is the way Paul intends it, but it would be nice to have
it show only the countries (grids, states, or zones) worked on the one
selected band (or mode).  The Needed Listing works properly for single bands
or modes.

I just checked v8.05 and it works the same way as v9.

The image was stripped on the reflector, but I received it on your direct
reply.  Yes, this is another way to do the search, but it needs to be
changed from the default settings first.

File > Preferences > QSO

Searching > QSO Date > Range

Save Changes and exit.

Hello Mark,

You can copy everything over from your old PC, but Windoze likes it better
if you install the program properly.  I still have an installation file for
v8.05 and will send it to you directly (not on the reflector).  The three
files you need to save and install manually are:

License: K3MSB_lic.dx4w8 (main dx4w805 folder)
Configuration: DX4WIN.CFG (save folder)
Your log file: K3MSB.dxl (save folder)

I agree with Tim K4TK.  DX4WIN is an old school DXer's logging program and it 
suits my needs very well.  Manual LoTW import/export and WSJT-X import are only 
a few mouse clicks and take less than a minute.

Having said that, it would be nice to know that Paul has a plan for the future 
when he wants to (or needs to) bow out.

On a very different note - I would like to see a similar program for the Mac OS.

(Note that I made my living using a piece of equipment designed over 500 years 
ago with one moving part, and I still drive a car with a manual transmission.)

David Perry (N4QS) certainly doesn't speak for all of us.  I like the product 
just as it is and I think the support and updates are excellent as they exist

Those of us pleased with the productcan continue using it.

As an Engineer with 45+ years in the IT industry and quite a few years working 
in software development,  I appreciate the time and effort it takes to develop 
and maintain a product.  And I have been involved with the effort of trying to 
keep a myriad of customers with diverse desires and requirements satisfied.  
It's a daunting task.  I'll save for another day my discussion on Problem 
Reports (PRs) and Deficiency Reports (DRs) and Known Problems and Workarounds 
(KP) and Configuration Control Boards
(CCBs) and racking and stacking customer desires/complaints.

with it.

then do:
File > Preferences > File > Write configuration file

I have a new PC configuration with 3 Monitors ( which I use for general stuff 
as well Radio).  I am having particular trouble with DX4Win when the PC comes 
back to life after a sleep/hibernation. I have 9 windows open and some restore 
to the original position and some re-appear on a different monitor.

If I just minimise DX4Win manually, when I restore it, all the windows come 
back correctly.

I have the main DX4Win (Title) window wide across one monitor and all the 
subsidiary one within the width and below it.  Is there any way to "help" 
DX4Win retain the window positions I select.

The three monitors are coming off a single graphics card with 2 Display Ports 
and one HDMI, and I am within the total capability of the graphics card.

Perhaps I don't understand you question exactly, but it doesn't appear that
you are doing anything wrong.  You still need those countries even though
they were worked many years ago, so they should still show up as needed.

Hello Scott,

There are a couple ways to do this: 

REPORTS - in the QSO window, Reports - DXCC - Listing (no deleted)
This gives you a nice overall view of what is worked, sent for, confirmed,
and credited.  You are looking for band countries worked, so double click on
any W in the matrix and your log is now filtered for all contacts with that
country on that band.

COUNTRY WINDOW - similar to the report matrix, but you get one band/mode
combination at a time.  Double click on any W in the report, and your log is
now filtered for all unconfirmed QSOs with that country on that band/mode.

F8 FILTER - Type F8 and select a country and band.  Your log is now filtered
for all QSOs with that country on that band.  If you also enter a mode, you
can filter for band/mode, just like in the Country window.

I am working on the DXCC Challenge and I  know F8 is the key to find a call
which I have made a contact with. As this has been some years ago and the

credit for. For example I want to see every other

Hello Dima,

There does not appear to be a way to filter QSOs by continent in dx4win.  You 
could export an ADIF file, look at it with MS Excel (or some other spreadsheet 
program), and filter that by continent and then by callsign.  That would be 
pretty awkward; maybe somebody else will have a better idea.

In the past I was asking several questions about DX4WIN but never received a

the USA — we can use a filter to sort by States in the Report editor. But how 
to get info for the whole NA/SA/EU etc. in one step? Sure a set of selections 
by zones is not what I’m looking for!

Hello Rick,

Do not try to copy the files over.  Download and install v9 from the
website.  Version 9 no longer uses Jim's Data Updater; the update process is
built in to the program.  From the menu bar at the top:
Help > Check for Updates
You should do this as soon as the program finishes installing to get the
latest program version and associated files.

I am upgrading my DX4WIN from 8.05 to the latest and I am installing the
latest version on a new Windows 10 PC.  The previous install is on an old XP
machine.  I have been looking through the reflector archives and have not
found anything specific to what I am trying to do. 
 
I have seen posts about copying the entire DX4WIN directory from one machine
to another but I am not sure if I should do that, and then do an 9.09 on the
new machine, or if I should install 9.09 and then copy some of the files
from the old machine to the new one. 
 
I am also unclear about if/when I will need to run AD1C's DXWin Data
Updater.
 
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, dx4win does not offer that level of filtering.The best we
can do is to Ignore Gray and Black (priority 8 & 9) in the Packet 1 tab.  It
would be nice to have more filtering options.

Maybe if you connected through the VE7CC program (not just to the VE7CC
cluster, but the CC User program) you could program it to filter out
anything you don't need.

Noll, that is an old QSO.  You might need to set worked cutoff to 0.  This is 
from Help:

Worked Cutoff

QSOs worked longer ago than the number of days specified will be marked as 'not 
worked'. Used to ignore QSOs that are not likely to be ever confirmed because 
they took place too long ago. The DX Spots Window for example will show the 
colors as if this QSO did not exist. A value of zero is used to ignore the 
CutOff and view all QSOs as 'worked' regardless how long ago the QSO took place.

Go to File, Preferences, Personal tab to do that.

Hello Noll,

I recently had the same thing happen with one of my QSOs.  Make sure you have a 
signal report entered.  If the signal report field is blank or zero, the 
program will not count that QSO.

[Dx4win] DXCC Report Anomaly FK8HA

Greetings,

 

This one has me stumped.  

 

The other day, I worked FK8HA on 6m FT8 for my first FK on that band.  When
I look at either the DXCC (same country) window, or a DXCC Report Listing,
this contact does not appear.   The 6m DIG square in the Same Country window
and the 6m spot on the report listing are both blank.  A DXCC Report Summary
does not list this QSO.  All of my other 6m contacts and all of my other FK
contacts appear as normal.  If I enter another 6m QSO with a fictitious FK
station, it appears in the reports properly, but FK8HA does not.  When I do
a search (F8) for FK QSOs, the 6m QSO with FK8HA is included.  The QSO
details all appear correctly: Prefix =FK; Band =6m; Mode =FT8; Grid =RG37;
Freq= 50,313.00.  I have the latest version of the program (9.0.9.1259) and
the country list that was released today.  Any ideas?

The easiest way is to not leave the program in Add Real Time (F9) mode.
Simply hit  after entering a QSO or string of QSOs.  Yes,

The window is open, but it's hiding somewhere.  This comes up regularly and

I found a general solution for this and I post it as a future reference (for
me as well)

Go to file>preferences and write your configuration file.
Close the dx4win
Go to dx4w903/save directory and rename config.dat to config_old.dat
Edit with notepad (not with word) the file config.txt
At the end of the file there are several sections with the first letter
[W-XXX] and below something like

Height=192
Left=300
Top=300 etc

Find the window you are interesting, for example packet window is [W-PACK]
Change the value of Left and Top to zero. example
Left=0
Top=0
Save the config.txt
Open dx4win
Go to file>preferences and Load configuration file
Choose dx4903/save/config.txt (the file you just saved)
Now the window will open on the left-upper corner.

Move it where you want and write again your config.txt as a backup for the
future.
Don't forget to open your own log again as dx4win loaded the Samplelog!
If something that you don't like happens, close to dx4win and go to again in
dx4w903/save directory and rename config_old.dat to config.dat

I made a shortcut to my wsjtx_log.adi file and put it in the same folder
with my regular dx4win logs so I don't have to navigate to

Something similar happened to me a few years back.  The QSO was confirmed via 
LoTW, but the VK6 (I forget his call) did not have his zone info in his station 
location so LoTW, and hence dx4win, did not count it as a confirmation for zone

I am seeing an anomaly on the WAZ report which is showing I need Zone 2 and 
Zone 31 on 12m.  However, when I import my log file into JT Alert it is showing 
I only need Zone 31.

When I look at my log entries for 12m Zone 2, it shows I have a worked and 
confirmed station for mode FT4.  (MFSK/FT4)  This does not seem to be being 
picked up by the WAZ report?  In the report generator I am selecting WAZ / 
Listing / DIG /  12m

I can provide screen shots if required.  Am I missing something or is this a 
bug?

I can't see how to positively search for other anomalies, (does it affect other 
reports?)  but I will keep my eye open to check where I can.

Hello Joe,

Look for a k1jb.~xl file in the same directory where you store your k1jb.dxl
log file.  This is an automatic backup that the program makes from time to
time.  Re-name it something like TEMP.DXL, open it and see if it has the
missing QSOs.  If it does, you can simply import them into your regular log
file.

Here's how I do it:
First, import the WSTX log into DX4WIN.  Wsjtx_log.adi  When importing it,
set the option for duplicate QSOs to "Imported QSO is Ignored".  Now, export
the new QSOs by using LoTW > Export to LoTW.  Use this file to put in TQSL,
and to upload to Clublog and any other on line place.

DX4WIN keeps track of which QSOs you have exported.  If you always export by
using LoTW > Export to LoTW,  DX4win will only  export the new QSOs.

I am mainly a SSB operator, that occasionally use FT8.
Last month merged my FT8 log, (wsjtx log.adi) to DX4WIN, and all went well.
I am using version 9.0.9.1259

Now I tried to update my dx4win, then load that into QRZ.COM, CLUBLOG, and
LOTW. It tries to upload all the older ones again. Is there something that I
am missing? How do I merge only the newest ones from WSJTX?

It is sometimes rough being 80. :)

I thought somebody answered this the other day.  There are a few things to 
check:

In DX4WIN:
File > Awards > DXCC > Confirmation.  Make sure both QSL Card and LoTW are 
checked.  Make sure the proper Mode Groups and Award Bands are checked.

File > Preferences > Station.  Make sure the proper modes and bands are checked.

Make sure you import your LoTW confirmations into DX4WIN.  
In LoTW:  Your QSOs > Download Report
In DX4WIN, in the QSO window:  LoTW > Confirm LoTW using ADIF file

This happens often when importing a contest log that uses DC as a multiplier.  
Try looking in the Recvd field for DC.  There are some other reasons why this 
can happen, and it has been discussed on the reflector before.  You can search

When I was looking at my WAS listing I have got an extra state (3L) at the end 
of the report list. I have tried to search for it both by clicking on the C for

I exported the whole log as a DXQ-file and tried to search it with a text 
editor without success.

 When I look at the summary report for WAS ít is summarized to 51 of 50 
available.

Does anyone have an idea of how to get rid of the 51st state in my WAS reports.

Jim's LoTW to DX4WIN program is not difficult or complicated, but you must
me careful and work through all of the steps.  If you have a lot of
confirmations, it can take a long time.

I was already on the Honor Roll when I started using dx4win, and did not
have dx4win track my DXCC credits until after I had been using the program
for several years.  It took me three full days to get everything
straightened out, but now my dx4win and LoTW records always agree.

I'll be happy to help you with your records.

There are two ways to do this, both on the File | Preferences | Screen tab.
You can change the font size and type for different parts of the windows.
You can also change the Scale Factor.  Using a Scale Factor over 100 makes

I made the fatal mistake of double-clicking on the DX4WIN icon on my lower
tray which brought me to the demo mode.  When I closed that and
single-clicked the icon only the QSO entry window showed up and the scale
was large.  I went through the Preferences and restored everything, but when
I tried to change the scale and some of the fonts on the "Screen" page, it
wouldn't respond.  That is, it wouldn't allow me to type in any changes.
I've had to restore the windows and change the scale and fonts in the past
and had no trouble.  I'm using Ver. 8.05

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Use the following settings for the K3:
Radio Type: Elecraft K3
Address: 00
Baud Rate: 38400
Do NOT check either DTR or RTS high

If you are using an older K3 with the 9 pin serial port interface and a USB
to serial adaptor, use an adaptor with the FTDI chipset.  These settings
have worked just fine here for the past 13 years with both the original K3
and a K3s on Win XP, Win7, Win10, and Win 11.

Hello Dave.

Log into your LoTW account and go to the Your QSOs tab.  
Click on Download Report (on the far left).  
Save this file somewhere convenient.
In the QSO window in DX4WIN, LoTW tab, click on Confirm LoTW using ADIF file.
Done.

Don't enter any dates. Both DX4WIN and LoTW keep track of what you have 
uploaded and downloaded before.  When you upload to LoTW, it is best to import 
the ADIF from WSJT into DX4WIN and use the Export to LoTW function up upload 
everything.  This way, DX4WIN can keep track of what you have uploaded and when 
it was uploaded.

Hello Berkin,

The Cloblog Call Tester says that KP4DX was in the United States from 27 Oct
1987 until 19 May 2015.  Either Clublog is wrong, or KP4DX uploaded those
QSOs with the wrong Station Location and Callsign certificate.

If Clublog and the dx4win database are wrong, you can easily correct your
log by typing KP4 in the Prefix window and hitting  to update the QSO.

If KP4DX was in the United States in 2007, he would need to correct his LoTW
information.

When you use any of the "sound card modes", the Elecraft radios have no way
of knowing what mode you are using.  They all look the same to the radio.
There are two ways to deal with this:

1. From the Menu Bar at top: Radio > Ignore Mode in real time.  This unlocks
the RTTY designation, but you must now enter the mode manually for every
QSO.

2. My solution is to just log any FT8 or MSK144 QSOs in WSJT-X and
periodically import wsjtx_log.adi into dx4win: File > Import/Export >
(select ADIF) > Import.   Set the option for duplicate QSOs to "Duplicate
QSO is ignored".

and unable I am to change until I log station, save, then reload. It will
then enable me to change to any selectable mode.

That's quite the process, but it will work.  Two comments:

1 If you do "Listing Worked" instead of just "Listing", it eliminates all
the blank spaces and is a little easier to read.
2. If you type "KZ5" into the Prefix box, that filter should ONLY list Canal
Zone stations.  Any others that appear in that search are logged improperly.
(KZ5 was my first deleted country)

I think I have a way to find QSOs with deleted countries but it involves
some work.  The following involves many steps but once you do a section
once, repeating it for other prefixes should be faster.

Basically, you get a list of deleted DXCC countries that you have worked
(Reports -> check "include deleted" -> OK).  Then for each deleted country
(indicated by a D in the column with "D" in the heading) that you have
worked, note each "prefix".  For EACH of those prefixes, do the following:
  1) While on the QSO screen
  2) Click Filter
  3) Click "Cancel filter"
  4) Hit F8
  5) Hit the TAB key (or click in the Prefix box)
  6) Enter a prefix you want to search for
  7) Hit Enter
  8) Click File
  9) Click Import/Export
 10) Click the highest DX4WIN format (Ex. DX4WIN8) listed
 11) Click File
 12) Click Export
 13) Enter a file name for the .DXQ/.DXN file to be created (I used the
prefix with any slashes changed to dashes -- OK/D would have filename OK-D)
 14) Click SAVE
 15) Click YES when it prompts with "Filter active, use it for export?" 
 16) For each prefix you extract, note the count of how many QSOs were 
 exported.  This will help you verify counts later -- after you make a 
 log from all the exported files.
 17) Click OK (after the export is done)
 18) Click File
 19) Click Exit

Once you have created a export file (.DXQ/.DXN) for each of the deleted
prefixes in your log:
 20) Click File
 21) Click NEW (create a NEW DX4WIN log file)
 22) Navigate to the directory where the Export files were created
 23) Specify the name of the log file that will contain all your exported
data

For each prefix file that you exported above, do the following:
 24) Click File
 25) Click Import/Export
 26) Click the DX4WIN export version number that you used in step 3 above
 27) Click File (on "Import / Export Filters" screen)
 28) Click Import
 29) Enter the export file name (Prefix?) that you used earlier
 30) Click Open
 31) On "Options for duplicate QSOs" screen, click OK
 32) Click OK (after the import summary)
 33) Click File
 34) Click Exit
 If you have more prefixes to Import, go to step 24

Once you have Imported all your Prefix files:
 35) Click File
 36) Click SAVE (to save this log to disk)
 37) Click File
 38) Click Info
 In theory, the "Nr QSOs" value should equal the sum of the Imported 
   QSOs counts in step 16 above


One caveat I am aware of (might be others that my test file didn't find), I
entered prefix of KZ5 which resulted in 60 QSOs.  However, only ONE of the
60 QSOs actually had a prefix of KZ5 -- all the others had prefix of "K".
To catch this situation, I suggest after you do an "export" of a prefix,
verify that all selected QSOs have the "prefix" that you were after.

Sorry this was so long.  If anything doesn't make sense, contact me and I'll
see what I can do to make it clearer.

There is one more place to check.  Starting with the menu bar up at the top:
File > Awards > VUCC Grid
Make sure you have the proper boxes checked under Confirmation, Mode group,
Valid modes, Valid bands, and Award bands.  Under Awards, only the Mode box
should be checked.

After all these years, I am just starting to focus on VUCC and FFMA awards
for six meters.  For VUCC, my confirmed totals in DX4WIN are about 70 less
that my totals showing on LOTW.  (I have very few grids confirmed via QSL
card.)  When I open the VUCC window, it is also apparent that confirmations
for CW and SSB are not showing as C.  Under Reports, Awards, VUCC tab, I
have all modes selected.  The same thing happens when I run a VUCC report
listing - confirmations for CW and SSB on 6 meters do not show up as
confirmed.

 

For example, for EM09 in Kansas, LOTW shows that grid was confirmed with
AB0S.  When I look up that QSO in DX4WIN, the Confirm LOTW box is set for Y
- so it is marked as confirmed in DX4WIN.  But in the VUCC window, EM09 only
shows a W in the CW and SSB boxes-there should be a C in the CW box.  If I
double click on the 6 at the top, all of my QSOs with EM09 on 6 meters are
shown, and AB0S clearly shows that it was confirmed via LOTW.

 

So why are these CW and SSB confirmations not showing up in the VUCC window
and on the VUCC reports?

Larry K5RK and I are using the same version of Firefox: 102.0.1,  64 bit
My version of Win10 is slightly newer: Version 21H2; build # 19044.1826

Installing the Content-Type Fixer in Firefox cured the problem for me.
Thanks to ON5GM.

None of this explains why the ADI extension is stripped when downloading
from LoTW but not from Clublog or other sites.

1 - download and install Content-Type Fixer

2 - Start Firefox. At the top right you will see an icon with a hammer,
click on it to see the menu of Content-Type Fixer

3 - Check Auto-start with Firefox and check Follow my settings (inline)

4 - Log into LOTW and download your log file. At the moment it is still
without extension but this action is necessary to get the extension adi in
the log of Content-Type Fixer.

5 - click again on the hammer icon and click on Add/Edit Content Types in
the menu

6 - you now see the Log of Recent Requests. Under the header Action Tasks
for the extension adi you will then probably see something like this. :

C-T: Updated CT header from "application/x-arrl-adif; charset=iso-8859-1" to
"application/octet-stream". 

 

7 - Click the Add button, select the input field and type in
application/octet-stream and then click the Update Content-Type button.

8 - If you download again, the file should have the extension .adi. You only
need to do this once.

try looking for this. in the task bar search box for c:\  then in the window go 
to View>, then show >then File name extension. Put a check on file name

During the last week or so I can see that the lotwreport file downloaded
from https://lotw.arrl.org (Your QSOs -> Download Report) is now
automatically saved on my PC (normally the download folder with other
downloads). Earlier I should accept to save it. 

 

However, the "lotwreport" file no longer has an extension. Earlier the
filename was "lotwreport.adi" now the filename is "lotwreport" with no
extension. Cause to that e.g. DX4WIN cannot fine the file to confirm LoTW
because DX4WIN does not know, that "lotwreport" is an ADIF file. 

 

I have downloaded the same "lotwreport" file on a PC running Windows 10 and
on a PC running Windows 11, and both downloads missed the ".adi" (period
adi) part of the "lotwreport" file. 

 

I reported this issue in the ARRL LoTW group and so far, one other has his
problem. A local Danish ham also have the same problem.

 

I have made some test to find the error:

 

1) from https://lotw.arrl.org I do no longer get the "save" box, that I got
earlier. It that a Windows issue?

2) I have in Windows 11 changed the Windows Explorer to "show extension" and
I still get the lotwreport without extension. I have made the same in
Windows 10 with the same result

 

Test download of lotwreport (same setup every time)

In Mozilla Firefox, version 102, 64 bit - no extension on the file
lotwreport

In Mozilla Firefox - same version, same PC - the logfile from Clublog.org
(right to my call) is downloaded with .adi extension 

In Microsoft Edge - same file (same call, same date etc.) is downloaded as
lotwreport.adi = with extension 

In Google Chrome - same file (same call, same date etc.) is downloaded as
lotwreport.adi = with extension

 

I have reset Mozilla Firefox but that did not help

I have looked in "regedit" in Windows database for lotwreport and found
nothing. 

 

 

Does anyone has a clue to what is wrong - and where/how to fix it?

Hello Jean Paul,

I went through this a few years ago.  You want to Add Off Line (QSO Window>
QSO > Add Off-line).  Set the Cnfm box (the first one, not the LoTW or eQSL)
to Y as you enter each QSO and are entering the QSO information.  Enter the
QSOs simply by pressing  after the information is filled in.

The F2 key is for when you are receiving QSLs for QSOs that are already in
you log.  Do not use it, or any of the other function keys, for this.

Once you get ALL of the QSOs entered, then you may decide whether or not to
submit them for any awards.  Let me know if you need more help or
explanation.  GL.

OK Gang.

I found a pile of QSL cards, about 555  of them.  All DX and they were in a
drawer from a move.  I noticed none of them are in my logging program.

I am entering them into my log and realized they are not all entered as
confirmed.
I just recently learned how to open up the bottom sections of my logging and
enter the cards for confirmation.
It says use the F2 key to confirm and I have that key set in the
preferences.
When I hit the F2 key it automatically enters an "S" in all the boxes???

So my question is this.  I manually enter the cards as "C" for confirmed.
Is this correct?
I see C-S-L and figured they are Confirmed, Sent, and LOTW?
Is this correct.
Also on my page 69 it says you have to hit the F10 key to save the changes.
When you make the changes and hit the enter key, and save the changes does
this do the same thing?  And this is just a fast function key to do the same
thing?

Sorry for the reading but I am trying to learn more all the time. hee hee...

Hello Bert,

The answer to your question depends on what you have done before this:
1. have you made ANY DXCC submissions?
2. if so, have you made them through dx4win so the program knows which
countries you have submitted?
3. is this your initial DXCC submission, or an endorsement?
4. have you applied any of your LoTW credits to your DXCC account?

Normally, when doing a "mixed" DXCC submission (combination of paper cards
and LoTW credits), you do the LoTW submission first, wait for it to be
processed, then submit your paper cards.  Once you do your LoTW submission,
the program will know those countries have already been submitted, and will
not select any of them when you do your paper QSL submission.

Actually, I think you have to pay and have an XML account (the minimum
account) for this feature to work? Yes, you can do lookups by going to the 
website and searchingor my doing the Alt F3 technique (which does NOT pop 
up a populated window with the info...rather just takes you to the QRZ 
website), but to use the F3 technique and have the window pop up with the info 
in the DX4WIN program, I'm pretty sure you have to be a paid XML account user.

Hello Steve,

Not sure I understand you correctly, but
The country Window shows what you have Worked, selected for printing a
Label, Mailed for a card, or Confirmed.
The Mixed, Band, and Mode boxes at the bottom of the QSO window show what
you have submitted for DXCC (or other award) credit.  They will not change
from the two dashes until you submit those QSOs for credit.  When you submit
them, they will change to S.  When the credits have been awarded, you change
them to C for Checked by selecting:
Reports > Award Flags > Change award flags.  For EACH award (mixed, band,
and/or mode, whatever those QSOs apply to), under Action, select: Submitted
-> Checked.
Then, and only then, will you see a "C" for checked in those boxes.

contacts am I not showing?

Hello Luc,

Try typing DIRECT or V51MA into the QSL manager window.  That should cure the 
problem for now.  I think QSL manager info is kept in the country database 
(country.dat) so Jim will have to change it next time he updates that.

You can do this with a simple date filter.  From the menu bar at top:
File > Preferences > QSO:
Set the QSO date filter to "Greater Equal"

In the QSO window, search (F8), and enter 01-01-2021 in the date window.
Export the file, answer yes when it asks "Filter active, use it for
export??" and export your file.

I think you need to uncheck the upload flag box in AD1C software. 
Possibly this uncheck the lotw flag as well.

There is always the option to clear eqsl upload flags after import. In qso 
window go to eqsl>clear eqsl upload flag. This is for entire log. 
Differently do a search first.

Hello Jim,

Looking at my log, all of the VHF Contest mode QSOs with no signal reports
have 599 in the report fields in dx4win.  I don't see any place in the
settings for selecting a default RST, so that must be built in to the
program.  I think the real question is why are your RST fields blank?

Hi Folks,

I made an interesting discovery this morning.  It may be an issue in the
DX4WIN program.  There are two pieces to it.  Although the specific problem
I encountered was for the VUCC Award, this problem may affect other awards.
I have not tested that theory, however.

I have been chasing VUCC grids on 6 meters since moving to Colorado in 2007.
I use this program that I wrote to give me a visual representation of the
grids I still need:

My map told me that I needed grid DN80, and when N0LL announced he was going
to go there in October, I made sure to work him.  I received his QSL card
yesterday.  Because I have several QSOs with him, I searched my logbook for
the Grid (DN80) instead.  But what I found is that I had a prior QSO with
another station in that same grid on 6 meters!  Furthermore, it was
confirmed in Logbook of the World (LoTW).  And finally, it had already been
checked at ARRL (VUCC grid credit received)!

So why did my VUCC Needed Listing tell me that I still needed that grid?
It turns out that the rstR (RST Received) field in my DX4WIN log for that
QSO was empty (blank).  Here is part of the ADIF record from WSJT-X (
https://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/k1jt/wsjtx.html) for that QSO that I
imported into DX4WIN:

Notice that the length of both the rst_sent and rst_rcvd fields is zero
(":0").  That means there was no RST recorded for the QSO.  This QSO was
made using the digital mode FT8 in "NA VHF" mode in WSJT-X.  For this
"special operating activity", only grid squares are exchanged, not signal
reports.  Here is what the FT8 transcript looked like for my QSO with
AB0YM/R:

The station answering the CQ sends his grid.  The CQing station sends an R
with his grid.  When the calling station receives that message, he sends
RR73.  Once the CQing station receives the RR73, he can go on to the next
QSO.

So the blank RST seems to be one problem.  However, there may be a second
problem.

A while back, maybe in Version 8, Paul added a feature to DX4WIN that
basically says that if the Award flag for the QSO is set to Checked (or
possibly Submitted), that the QSO is considered "confirmed" regardless of
the setting of the QSL, LoTW and/or eQSL Confirmed fields for the QSO.
Here is an example of how this feature is useful.  You can receive IOTA
(Island on the Air) credit if there is QSO match in Club Log, even if you
don't have a QSL card, even if the QSO is not confirmed in LoTW.  You can
submit this "confirmed" (matched) QSO from Club Log for IOTA credit.  Once
you set the IOTA Award flag for that QSO, DX4WIN will consider it confirmed,
so you will know that you do not need to work or confirm it again.

One might think that this feature would take care of my VUCC problem, but
it's not enough.  DX4WIN also has a feature where having a blank RST, or a
value of "0" in the RST field, means that this QSO is invalid for awards.
Apparently, having the Award flag set to Submitted or Checked is not enough
to override this, and I think this might be a bug in DX4WIN.  If you have
received award credit for a QSO, then that QSO can not be invalid for the
award, regardless of the RST field(s).  In other words, it can't be both
valid and invalid at the same time!  DX4WIN already has a way to mark a QSO
as invalid for a particular award, by setting the Award Flag to 'I'
(Invalid).  So it seems to me that DX4WIN should disregard the RST field(s)
once the QSO has an Award Flag set for it.

Note that a QSO is also invalid if the RST field is '0' (zero).  It is
*not* invalid if the RST field is "+0" (0 dB) which is a typical report
received on the digital modes that WSJT-X supports.

Fortunately, there is a way to find QSOs that have a blank RST field.
Using F8 to begin a search, enter this two-character string into one of the
RST fields and then type :

!*

(that's an exclamation point, immediately followed by an asterisk).  The '*'
means "anything" and by putting the '!' in front of it, the resulting search
is for "not anything",

It probably means that one of the parameters does not match between LoTW and 
your log.  Did you get a .NOTFOUND file?   Open that and see if the QSO shows 
in there.

That's it.  DX4WIN will keep track of what you have exported and when, so

We must wait until Paul adds Q65 to the program.  It is a sub-mode of MFSK.
We cannot remove modes, but the modes that you select in Files > Preferences
> Station will always appear at the top of the mode listing.  The unused
modes will not appear on your QSL labels; only the mode(s) used for the
QSO(s) printed on that label.

It looks like the Grid number is in the FLAGS field at the end:
/gFN54PS/u1160
FN54 is the right grid for N1AC

None of these guys are on an island, so there will be no IOTA number.  Is
the DIG for the German Diploma Interessen Group?  If so, that info goes in
the Custom Award field and I do not know how to transfer that automatically.
Maybe AD1C or KK4HD will be able to help.

If you export ADIF from your old program and import ADIF into DX4WIN, the

In parallel, when trying to edit a new filter, the version 9.09 filter edit
seems to be a bit buggy.

When entering a callsign with position 1 and length 20, it creates the
callsign starting with column 2. There is no way to start at 1. OK, let's
start at 2. Then entering the band, starting at 23, length 3. When clikcing
insert, band starts at 24 because the start of callsign was shifted to 3.
Guess what when entering time...yes time starts not at 39, but at 40 and all
the above field were shifted +1.

and so on and so on...

Unfortunately, not useable. Or do I have to do anything to get it working? I

Hello Joe,

You do not need the frequencies on the card.  DXCC Rule 1q states:
q) Satellite: Contacts must be made using satellites since March 1, 1965.
Confirmations must indicate satellite QSO. Satellite contacts do not count
toward any awards noted in a) through p) above.  

When filling out the card, use SAT for the band.  You may indicate which
satellite was used, but it looks like DXCC does not have endorsements for
different satellites or frequencies.  DXCC rules may be found here:

Hello Larry,

There are better tools for tracking FFMA.  When you use one of the custom
awards in dx4win, you must first tell the program to apply a QSO to a custom
award.  So, for every 6m QSO, you would need to go back and fill in the
Custom Award (FFMA) and Custom Award Value (grid square) for each QSO
individually.

W7GJ has a tracking program on his web site: http://www.bigskyspaces.com/
and KV5W maintains an on line database for FFMA chasers.  Info on his QRZ
page.  These are probably the most convenient tools to use.

I'm a little surprised that it still was OK when you changed the call back to 
AH6AA.  In my testing, anytime I would remove AH6AA, the problem went away and 
when I reverted back to the original log (that had AH6AA in it), I would get 
the gibberish until I removed the AH6AA.

 

I am glad everything is OK now and hope it continues to be!

Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be an easy way to filter by just WPX 
cards.  If you have NO other outstanding QSLs, maybe you can set the mailed 
cutoff to a low number and clear them all.  

 

Worked Cutoff

QSOs worked longer ago than the number of days specified will be marked as 'not 
worked'. Used to ignore QSOs that are not likely to be ever confirmed because 
they took place too long ago. The DX Spots Window for example will show the 
colors as if this QSO did not exist. A value of zero is used to ignore the 
CutOff and view all QSOs as 'worked' regardless how long ago the QSO took place.

 

Mailed Cutoff

Similar as Worked Cutoff, but the QSL date is used instead of the QSO date. 
QSOs for which a card has been sent longer ago than the number of days 
specified will be treated as if a card was never sent. This can be used in 
reports and summary windows and when marking additional QSOs for QSLing. A 
value of zero is used to ignore the CutOff and view all QSLs that were mailed 
as 'mailed' regardless how long ago the mailing took place.

Didn’t there used to be a cut off date for QSLs?  I seem to remember seeing 
that, once upon a time.  If you had sent a card and it wasn’t answered for

What file are you trying to import? From WSJT-X, you need wsjtx_log.adi.  Use

Hello Joel,

Please check to see if you have cleared any filters before printing.  If you
do your QSLs the same way I do, going through a string of cards with F8
(search) and F2 (mark for printing), and then go to print, you still have
the filter for that last QSO and that's the only one that will print.  Clear
the filters, and then print.  Don't ask me how many times I have learned
this same thing, over and over!

I need some assistance with a QSL label printing issue I can't resolve.
This started some time ago but I'm not exactly sure whether it was after
a program upgrade 9.0 or something else, and this may not be a DX4Win
issue. 

When I go to print QSL labels the print window appears and at the top of
that window it will correctly identify how many labels are to be
printed, however when I select "Print" only one of the labels in the que
will print and no others. The only way around this is to mark each QSO
label to be printed with a "Y" in the QSO window one at a time. 

The labels print fine, I just can't seem to get more than one to print.
What am I missing? Any suggestions?

Hello Ken,

The easiest way is to use a Selection.  From the QSO window:
Filter > Selection.  Check date filter and enter 1 Jan and 31 Dec 2021 as
the dates.  Update.  Add. OK.  (Remember to change back to All QSOs when you
are finished looking at 2021.)

OR

Maybe if he gets enough requests, Paul can add the CQ DX marathon to the
awards list?

Hello David,

Look on Clublog (there are probably other places, too) for stations who have
OQRS activated.  You may request cards to be sent direct (for a fee) or via
the bureau for free.  

For OQRSd, you pay via Paypal (usually).  It is VERY convenient.

You can download all your credited DXCC QSOs (or QSLs if you prefer) 
from LoTW in ADIF format.

When I import this ADIF file into DX4WIN9, I get a number of errors.  
One is from LoTW itself (for some reason there is no explicit  
callout on phone QSOs), but I can fix that in the ADIF file itself.

The strange one is that DX4WIN remaps several QSOs to different DXCC.

For example, ZK1CQ from 1989 is North Cooks...the ADIF record even has 
the correct : index...yet DX4WIN calls it South Cooks.

Same for 3D2AM from 1990.  It's Conway Reef with the correct index, but 
DX4WIN calls it Fiji.

A slightly different issue is with V51NAM from 1990...the error is 
"prefix empty" and sure enough in the imported log there is no prefix 
and therefore no entity identified...except for again, the DXCC index is 
correct in the ADIF record.


Any hints as to what is up here?  I can't look at my country file 
("Country Editor not available") so I can't check valid dates in the 
database (although these are all valid...and I have the cards to prove it!).

Hello Scott,

This happens when you import a domestic contest ADIF file where DC was a
multiplier.  Please search back through the archives as this has been
reported and corrected several times.  I believe (but don't remember for
sure) the fix is to do a search (F8) for DC in the state field and simply
delete the DC from that field.  I also think that running your contest log
ADIF through AD1C's ADIF to DX4WIN utility will prevent this from happening.

Jim and Paul - maybe we put this in a VERY obvious place on both the DX4WIN
and AD1C web pages?

at bottom of listing it shows state 3L with a name of "C"


I searched for state 3L in a filter search and it says no matching qso's 
found

Hello Courtney,

You might try increasing the number of tries before dx4win times out:
File> Preferences > Radio: Max Tries=?  I just looked and mine is set at 2,
which is probably the default.  That seems pretty low.  Also, is the
computer talking to dx4win through the Microham router?  Could that be part
of the problem?  I never had any Microham stuff so don't know how they work,
but think one of their guys reads this list and may be able to comment.

thanks Larry, yes, that is the way I always start up in the morning 
computer on first... loads up and running, then I turn on the radio and 
out board items, then open either DX4WIN or Writelog  shut down the 
opposite nite time. When I get a time out event, if I close DX4WIN and 
re-open all works for a while but eventually it times out. Wierd part is 
Writelog, microHam router, radio/amp and computer no problem. Thinking 
about doing a re-install of DX4WIN 9.0.9 but I always get extremely 
nervous when messing around with software usually a cussing fit 
going to happen somewhere  then the wifie tells me I should have 
known better!  hopefully this thing will self correct but who am I
