Samuels) Date: Fri Apr 28 12:05:47 2006 Subject: [Dx4win] ADIF Import from N1MM Logger Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks for the replies to my query about ADIF specs - that helped. I've successfully imported my Florida QSO Party logs into DX4WIN. I now have the proper states in the State field, and Florida county abbreviations in the RCVD field. Here's what I did: I edited the N1MM xxx.adi file with a text editor (I used TextPad, but others, even Notepad or Wordpad would do). I used the Replace function to find and replace text as follows: 1. Find EXCHANGE1:2 and replace with STATE:2 2. Find EXCHANGE1:3 and replace with STATE:2FL SRX:3 Note the space between FL and . Then I saved the file as XXX-fixed.adi and imported the file into DX4WIN. I had a few errors. These are noted in the QSO Notes for this QSO field. The errors were unimportant and the error messages could be removed. An example is a State error for VE3WG because ON is invalid. Another was for the State of V3 for a V31, etc. I see that Jim, AD1C, has an updated program which works on the county abbreviations and makes them into proper state and county entries. I haven't played with that, but it could be valuable in converting the abbreviated Florida counties into importable county data. For those who care, here are all of the fields that DX4WIN will recognize as ADIF import: ADDRESS, ARRL_SECT, BAND, CALL, CNTY, COMMENT, CONTEST_ID, CQZ, DXCC, FREQ, GRIDSQUARE, IOTA, MODE, NAME, NOTES, QSLSDATE, QSL_RCVD, QSL_SENT, QSL_VIA, QSO_DATE, QTH, RST_RCVD, RST_SENT, SRX, STATE, STX, TEN_TEN, TIME_OFF, TIME_ON. There are a few synonyms that would work, like 1010 for TEN_TEN, and FREQ= for FREQ. Also, although SRX is defined as numeric in the ADIF spec, DX4WIN accepts character data without complaint for the RCVD field. There is a separate character data field, SRX_STRING, which should have been used. 73, John, K2CIB

How to save the macro buttons size setting since it has been adjusted? It seems like every time I fire up the DX4WIN, it defaults back the way it was(almost impossible to read the button names). 2. How to change the font/colors of the RTTY RX and TX parts of the window. What *.INI or *.CFG file controls it? 3. I am running my DX4WIN on a clean version of Win2K (Service pack4)but for some reason the feature of Copy text within RX window doesn't work. When I try to highlight the text in that window the selected part gets highlighted for a brief moment and doesn't stay ON to give me a chance to right click on it for Copy feature or to do Ctrl+C. Is it a bug? Help woould be greatly appreciated. I have found all call book products to be about equal when it comes to USA addresses since they all download the same FCC data, but I have noted great variances when it comes to DX and QSL addresses. When it comes to DX addresses I have often found the QRZ.com site/CD to be the most up-to-date. The ability of DX stations to update their own QSL information practically in real-time often places QRZ.com ahead of even the GOLIST. I use the GOLIST to find QSL managers and I use QRZ.com to find the routes to those managers. I hope Paul will provide Update QSO support for the QRZ.com CD in the next release. 73, Dick -- Dick Flanagan K7VC NV SM E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

No promises, but it worked for me. 73 Alan, N5PA Instructions for Upgrading to Version 6.04: 1. In DX4WIN version 6.03, open your Preferences window by clicking File and then Preferences 2. Then in the Preferences window click File and Write INI File and save it to your SAVE directory in DX4WIN version 6.03 (C:\Program Files\dx4w603\save) 3. Download the new version of DX4WIN and save it to wherever you normally save downloaded files to or your desktop 4. Double click the new downloaded file and it will create the new release of DX4WIN in a directory called C:\Program Files\dx4w604 5. From the root directory of your old version of DX4WIN (C:\Program Files\dx4w603) copy your key file to the new version root directory (C:\Program Files\dx4w604). This file is usually your call sign dot key, i.e. N5PA.key 6. From your old save file (C:\Program Files\dx4w603\save) copy the following files to the new save directory (C:\Program Files\dx4w604\save): dx4win.awd, dx4win.rep, dx4win.tcp, and your log file, which ends in .dxl 7. Open the new version of DX4WIN 8. Open your Preferences window by clicking File and then Preferences 9. Then in the Preferences window click File and Merge INI file, select the DX4WIN.INI file we created in step 2 by going to the old directory at C:\Program Files\dx4w603\save and click Open to merge it into your new Preferences file 10. Once you have merged the changes you will need to make some band changes on the DXCC, WAS, WAZ, and WPX tabs. For some reason it does not import those from the INI file. I normally just have 1.8 MHz through 50 MHz checked and I do not have all of the other VHF/UHF/Microwave frequencies checked. That is your preference. 11. After you have made those changes, click File and then Save Changes and Exit. Most of your windows will not come back into place. 12. If you use a Master Call window you will need to create a new master call database. 13. To create a Master Calls file you click File and then Import/Export. 14. From the Import / Export Filters window highlight the CALLS id in the filters and then select File and Export. 15. A Save As window will open up and you can create a file called calls.txt and save it to C:\Program Files\dx4w604\save. 16. Once it is saved you can close the Import / Export Filters window by clicking File and then Exit. 17. If you have not already, open up the Master Calls window by clicking Window and Master Calls on your QSO window. 18. Once the MasterLookup window is open, right click inside the MasterLookup window and two options will appear. 19. Click the Convert option and a file Open window will appear. 20. Go to the directory where you saved the calls.txt file, which should have been C:\Program Files\dx4w604\save. 21. Key in the file name calls.txt in the File name and click the Open button. It will convert the file into your MasterLookup window. No promises, but you should be ready to go now with the new version. This is how I did my conversion and it should work for you.

The problem with the packet cluster I was having was attributed to firewall software. [Dx4win] disconnect fix
Ok Don, that is the downside of the VE7CC packet cluster program. It will not go into your dx4win logbook and highlight in the 9 or so colors to make you aware it is a new country you need to work, or a new band, or a new mode. I am going to stick with the present DX4WIN packet cluster even though it may disconnect. At least it will go into my logbook and scout for the ones I need for 5BDXCC and DXCC Honor Roll. I emailed Paul Vander about this problem and have not heard a thing. Guess he just doesnt want to spend the time and resources to find a solution. Someone told me Paul emailed him and said it was not the problem of the logging program but one of ISP. Dont know if that is true or not but other packet cluster programs have an automatic reconnect and the ones I am referring to are mIRC and DXTELNET. 73,s johon - Original Message - From: Don Price [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: n3drk [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, October 25, 2003 10:37 AM Subject: Re: [Dx4win] disconnect fix John, No it tells Dx4win the spots and dx4win sorts them out It's reason for being is to supply the spots to your logging program without losing your connection. but you can say which bands , and from which country you want the spots.. If you what only from K or where ever. I want them all, but not the 6M , 2M , 160M etc. don - Original Message - From: n3drk [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Don Price [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, October 25, 2003 4:36 AM Subject: Re: [Dx4win] disconnect fix Does this program go into your logbook and look for the ones you worked, need etc? john - Original Message - From: Don Price [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: DX4win_Post dx4win@mailman.qth.net Sent: Saturday, October 25, 2003 6:50 AM Subject: [Dx4win] disconnect fix Mark K6FG, Dx4win has not provisions to stay alive or ping the cluster. What has worked very well is to download VE7CC's program AR users (http://www.ve7cc.net )and run this in the background. It will connect you to your telnet or packet cluster and will track the disconnects, user sets the value for stay alive , Rx inactivity, etc.. You also have complete control over you spots as to what bands, modes, plus what countries you what your spots to come from ( K, XE,VE) or all. The connection is easy and explained on his site. Dx4Win connects to port 127.0.0.1:7300 (internal loop in windows PC) instead of your cluster provider. and this program feeds your DX4win. Have went from many disconnects to connected for days, try it you will like it. Don K7OSE From: Mark [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Dx4win] Telnet Disconnect I connect to the Cluster on broadband cable through Telnet within DX4WIN 6. I find that I get disconnected after only a modest time of being connected. This happens regardless of the Telnet site I use. I am able to reconnect easily and I believe that my cable connection and signal level remain at adequate levels. Does anyone have any suggestions? [Dx4win] Fw: [CW] FCC's Attitude toward BPL!
Everyone, should click on these links and watch these videos from the BPL in Europe. Hello John and others, regarding the current BPL discussions you might well be interested to visit http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/pubs/whp/ where whp067 (meaning White Paper no 67) has just appeared providing a hell lot of the infos regarding the impacts BPL (or PLT or PLC as it is called in Europe) does have on HF reception in a typcal suburban or downtown area. The above web site also provides a bulk of audio files taken within such an area where BPL was / is in use. While the experiments were made using HF broadcast band reception (with those really big signals there...) it is all to easy and obvious what that would mean for any ham band reception ( you can bet it's gonna be damn worse...) Also, I put some files (both audio and video ones) on my web site at http://www.qsl.net/dl5qe regarding BPL (PLC, PLT) interferences. It should be well alarming everybody if an international and well known broadcaster like the British BBC sees the necessity to address a broader public to inform about the detrimental interferences that (might?!) be our possible future as HF users. If the Megawatt Boys are afraid enough (like BBC), we as hams should be much more afraid anyhow... 73 de Martin, DL5QE On 25 Sep 2003 at 15:39, n3drk wrote: From: n3drk [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], Low Power Amateur Radio Discussion [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject:[CW] FCC's Attitude toward BPL! [Dx4win] Telnet issues
No matter who I connect to I get disconnected using dx4win.
