Roger,

Deleting the config.dat file may solve the problem already unless you
suspect that a virus modified the exe file.

Group names are stored in the log file.

Not exactly the answer you were looking for, BUT, if you go to FILTER

will show a list of all your GROUP names. I don't know how to print it

Hi Jay,

You may do a filter with just group names and group numbers . Export it and
open the file in Excel. Sort them and remove duplicates. Then you will have
a list of all your group names and numbers.

Hi Jay,

Group Names are stored in the log file itself. I don't know of a way
to get a listing of them. Maybe Paul can help.

Re: [Dx4win] Group Names and Numbers

2016-02-21 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi all,

I wrote a program years ago that decoded the group numbers/names and
the filter information too from the .DXL file.

At one time I had thoughts of "extracting" the group and filter information
from one .DXL file and creating a new .DXL with the same information. Some
where along the way, it became obvious that it would be more reliable to just
copy the old .DXL to a new name.DXL, remove all the log records and go from
there!

If there is interest, I will clean it up so others can use it (I wrote it for
me at the time).

If you want any specific option, let me know.

What I wrote was basically to get a hard copy of the information. Probably the
most versatile thing to do is create a .CSV and then you could use Excel or
other spreadsheet programs to present the list the way you can use it.

It resides in the log (.DXL) file. It would be difficult at best to
get the info from that file. And once you had it, you could not do
anything with it except print it, i.e. you can' import it any form.

adif2dxq. You can also make by default labels to N with it. I use it in

[Dx4win] Group Names vaporized

In-Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Dave,

I primarily operate contests. Each contest I work is assigned a group number.
So using F8 and the Group Number I am able to isolate all the QSO's from a
particular contest.

One of the advantages of this is for QSL request when I am unable to find the
claimed contact by searching on the other station call sign. Then I am able to
at least narrow down the log to the contest and search through that.

There are many different reasons for not finding the call in my log, from
miscopied on my part or needing to decipher the call on the QSL call that was
used during the contests.

By narrowing the log down to the specific contest I have been successful in
either finding these contacts or verifying they definitely are not in the log.

Sure I could search by date and time, but those aren't always correct either.
Then if the request is from 15 years ago the search on time date will bring
up 15 years of contacts.

Hope this helps,
Bill

Hi All;

I maybe missed the point, but I really wonder what you guys are doing to even
think about running out of Group numbers.

I don't understand anyone's need really to group by year or by contest; since
you would still need to do a search operation (F8) to filter by Group. You
might as well do a search by date in that case. I use Groups in my main log
to differentiate from G3NKC and G3NKC/P, and I think I set up GQ3NKC - so call
sign variants.

For my GD contest operations, I currently hold separate logs for GD0EMG, MD6V,
and MD4K; even though I have been thinking about the merits of merging those
logs (might be nice to see a complete DXCC achievement, for instance); but I
often think these would be outweighed by the overhead when doing the QSLling
chores (when someone requests a card, I normally QSL all QSO's with our
particular contest call. I might end up selecting QSL's for all call's; meaning
I have 3 labels that would have to go on 3 cards). ON balance I think those
logs will stay separate.

Hi Bill,
I'm not sure how you allocate your group numbers. I started giving a number to
every contest, IE CQ WPX CW,2005,2006,2007 ETC and could see I would fast run
out of numbers. On a suggestion from a local user I now only have one number
for each contest and use the same number each year. Its a simple matter to
filter by year or mode as and when you require. This has reduced my groups
considerably.

Group numbers is a nice feature and I use it a lot. I just wish we were allowed
more than 254 group numbers. At my present rate I will have all 254 numbers
used by CQ WPX CW this year. When that happens I will have to look at other

2003-09-15 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED] (J. F. Samuels)
Happened to me too. Here is Paul's reply:

John,

Group names are part of the log. A way to loose the group names
is to export a log, and import into a new one.

When you have a log with group names in it, proceed as follows:
1. Keep backup information!!
2. Open the log with the groups in it.
3. Delete all QSOs in that log
4. Use the File | Import | Merge DX4WIN log to add your most recent
log.
5. Save the log under a new name

Paul

It worked! They all came back.

Paul, I don't know why, but none of my recent appends are being posted to
the reflector. Please see if there is a way this can be fixed.

This was one of my recent appends:

While preparing to do a DXCC submission, I discovered I've lost all my
Group
definitions. And, if I search for a group number, it is not found in the
database.

I went back on saved logs and found that the one saved on 8/5/2003 has the
info OK, newer ones do not.

What happened? Is it because of moving to the new Country file? Did I do
something wrong?

What can I do to recover the lost groups? Where is the group info stored?

I can't just merge the newer QSO records into the old file, because many
QSLs were received and logged during August.

Any ideas appreciated.

Subject: [Dx4win] Group Names

I tried to add a Group Name to a contest file I just imported. I was
surprised to see no groups listed in the Edit Group Names box. I looked
at my log and saw no group names listed anywhere. Before I updated from
V5.03 to V6.02 I had over a dozen groups. How do I recover and/or what
did I do wrong during the upgrade.

[Dx4win] Group Names was changing my call sign: dx4win questions...

2002-09-17 Thread Brian Boerner
It would be really helpful if you could sumerize the responses, both
private and public, and post them back to the list. The kind of
information might be useful again. ;)

Thanks.

[Dx4win] Group Names was changing my call sign: dx4win questions...

2002-09-16 Thread Wendell Wyly W5FL
There is an easier way. If you go to preferences where I have set the
labels tab to print the greeting as@@ 73 de %% email [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This will automatically print PSE or TNX QSL, 73 de Group Name Call and then
my email address. If you have a vanity call then the correct call will be
printed on the label if you name the group name correctly. My group names
include the location, so mine will print W5FL Weatherford, Texas for all
calls from my present qth and W5FL Jamul, CA for all calls from my
California QTH, and all other qths and calls that I have previously used.
Do the same thing for swl greeting Thanks SWL report de %%

The group names is a wonderful feature and not used by enough people. It is
also very powerful since the same calls window shows the group names and
then you can always print the qsl card correctly for more than one call or
location. It helps if you have more than one call to stick the label on a
QSL card with the correct call in case the receiving ham did not read the
label carefully enough.

I have never tried sending a card from more than one group name, but for PSE
and TNX being different, the program is smart enough to print the
information on two qsl cards.

Ken,

I did three things when my vanity call arrived:

1. Set a group with the previous callsign - so the group name said as
WB8BGO. This is very helpful when entering a QSO-in-progress. You can look
in the same call window and you can see whether you worked him/her before,
and under which callsign. During the QSO, you can immediately say (or type
or send... ;-) we've worked 3 times before, twice under my previous
callsign and once under my new vanity call... or whatever. Don't rely upon
your memory or math skills to figure that out during a QSO... gets worse as
time passes ;-)

2. Modified my QSL label printing comments to say previously WB8BGO - so
when I print a card for any QSO, it has this little comment on it. _IF_ this
card involves multiple QSOs, split between the new and old callsigns, I
will use a highlighter, and highlight the previous callsign comments, then
highlight the QSO that involved the previous call.

3. This might sound a little corny, but I entered a new QSO with myself and
my new vanity callsign. I created a log entry on the date I started using my
new callsign. Whenever I'm trying to remember when I switched callsigns, I
press F8, enter my callsign, and see the date of the QSO. (ummm... to
avoid any award confusion, you can press F5 a few times and enter this QSO
as an invalid contact in the ValidDX field.]

I'm making the switch to a vanity call and I've been thinking about how
to handle this with my log. I assume that one thing I can do is to just
partition the log into a group of the old call and a group of the new
one. how about sending qsl card requests--like old ones that I need at
some point, or answering a qsl request? I guess the only thing I'll
need to do is make sure that I don't batch print requests to both calls
at the same time and then manually change the info printed on my labels.

anyone have any experience with running dx4win and then either changing
to a vanity call or upgrading and getting a new call assigned? I'm
interested to hear how you handled this.

[Dx4win] Group Names was changing my call sign: dx4win questions...

2002-09-16 Thread Tom Branch
Wendall,

I have to agree--groups are powerful, yet underused. I was active Air Force
and moved often. I use group for the different QTHs. I use the QTH: %%
to print the location on the second line of the QSL label. My QSL cards
have check boxes for each location giving State, grid squares, zones,
county, etc. I stick the label on the card and initial in the proper
location box. It's quick and easy.
