Thank you very much for the contribution Jim.
I have printed it and I have put it with my Counties Award Record Book,
that green book that is with me since the beginning of the 90s.
I think this prize has devalued a little, because apart from the QSL, on
paper, they only accept e-qsl (I closed my E-QSL account), but does not
accept confirmations via Lotw.
I hope that in the future, such confirmations are accepted.
All the best.

[Dx4win] Counties database

2022-11-16 Thread Luciano de la Rosa
Hi,
I just receive the QSL of KK7BWJ, where it indicates that the county is
Carson City Co.
I have looked at:

https://cq-amateur-radio.com/cq_awards/cq_usa_ca_awards/cq_usa_ca_awards.html

And if Carson City appears. In the DX4win database does not appear, it may
be a new county.
Is it possible to add to the DX4WIN database?

Actually, I think you have to pay and have an XML account (the minimum
account) for this feature to work? Yes, you can do lookups by going to the
website and searchingor my doing the Alt F3 technique (which does NOT pop
up a populated window with the info...rather just takes you to the QRZ
website), but to use the F3 technique and have the window pop up with the info
in the DX4WIN program, I'm pretty sure you have to be a paid XML account user.
Perhaps someone who is NOT a paid XML account member can try it and chime in
yes or no. Of course, for the F3 to work properly, you also have to configure
it correctly in Preferences.

I'm 90+% sure you have to be an XML paid subscriber on QRZ to fully use the
F3 popup window.because "back in the day", when I couldn't get mine to work
and the popup window was blankI posted on here and asked and was told by
DX4WIN folks that was my issue. I joined/paid for the XML subscription, and
thenwithout changing any config in DX4WIN...it started immediately working.

Thank you both for your answer.
I do not have an XML account, doubt is already clarified.
I thought it was that in the 9.xx version of DX4WIN, at EXT DATA, a field
came to put the username and password of QRZ and in version 8.05 is not
that field.
Greetings.

I don't have an XML subscription and yes, the F3 feature works in my
setup. There's always a catch, though, and in this case by "works" it
means supplies and populates the basic contact info like the operator
name, address, state, and IOTA. Sorry to say that if you want additional
details like a county, grid, or anything else, you probably need an XML
subscription (disclaimer - -that's my guess since I don't have it).

F3 also works with the Radio Amateur Callbook (CD) and some others.
Go to the EXT tab of your Preferences and select "Data Source" to see
the choices. You do need a subscription for QRZ XML lookup and
probably others.

Re: [Dx4win] counties

2022-03-02 Thread Tim moore
Actually, I think you have to pay and have an XML account (the minimum
account) for this feature to work? Yes, you can do lookups by going to the
website and searchingor my doing the Alt F3 technique (which does NOT
pop up a populated window with the info...rather just takes you to the QRZ
website), but to use the F3 technique and have the window pop up with the
info in the DX4WIN program, I'm pretty sure you have to be a paid XML
account user. Perhaps someone who is NOT a paid XML account member can try
it and chime in yes or no. Of course, for the F3 to work properly, you also
have to configure it correctly in Preferences.

I'm 90+% sure you have to be an XML paid subscriber on QRZ to fully use the
F3 popup window.because "back in the day", when I couldn't get mine to
work and the popup window was blankI posted on here and asked and was
told by DX4WIN folks that was my issue. I joined/paid for the XML
subscription, and thenwithout changing any config in DX4WIN...it
started immediately working.

I’ll definitely try it after the next State CTY QSO Party I participate in — no

Re: [Dx4win] Counties

2022-02-25 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Sure, Jim!

DX4WIN is not able to do it in the case of N1MM generated ADIF as I mentioned
before.

For my short "made in Russia" Contest logs, I entered CTYs manually in DX4WIN
after import. But for locals with a lot of Qs, your utility should definitely
be of great help. With all this, I myself have repeatedly thought about
replacing the CTY abbreviations with their decoded values and placing the new
CTY field in the correct ADIF position to make its modified file version
understandable to DX4WIN when importing!

I have tried to support either the software I use, or other common programs
like N1MM.  WriteLog is actually a real problem.  N1MM is easy.  If someone
can't convert their log and sends me the ADIF file, it's usually easy to fix.

The software only looks at the abbreviation.  It is up to the user to choose
the correct state from the drop-down menu.  I don't think the program looks at
the State field at all.

Re: [Dx4win] Counties

2022-02-25 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Dear Alan and Jim !

Thanks for your valuable feedback! Sure — it’s time for me to start entering
CTY info during every QSO — then these problems will disappear by themselves
hihi ! In any case — I will start using the way you’ve offered, Luc !

As it was mentioned here — Jim has also written a useful utility that would
convert the ADIF county abbreviations to counties in DX4WIN log. I have not
tried it yet, but I suspect that ADIFs from Contesting SW may differ one from
another, causing a conversion problem.

For ex., in the case of QSO with KB9LLD from St.Luis in MOQP — an  ADIF
generated by N1MM SW will contain the following info for a State and CTY

MO
 STC

And every other Contest SW will have its own way of building an ADIF and the
common will be a Standard National 2-letter State and «MOQP Standard» 3- letter
CTY abbreviations.

So it seems to me that the Cabrillo format, being unique, would allow it to be
correctly converted to ADIF, and then to do the rest of the work to decode
abbreviations is the task of Jim’s utility.

I am not familiar with EQSLcc ways of obtaining CTY CFM for CH and submitting
them — maybe it also has an output file that could be used as a source to
automatically populate State/CTY fields in DX4WIN’s Log for Matching Callsigns
after import.

However, this partially works for LOTW. If a user has entered his State/CTY
info in TCert SW it will sit in his TQ8 file and you’ll easily get it from the
LOTW Report after download. But unfortunately, it will populate QSO Notes field
instead of the needed ones and the task will be to pull it out from there and
re-populate State/CTY fields instead. And of course, automatically, not
manually, and I think that for this, again, you will need to first convert the
ADIF file from LOTW Report to ADIF, understandable by DX4WIN for further
import.

But this does not mean the end of the game, hihi !
Since I have 5-10 K QSOs with missing CTY information and one in the USA would
definitely have much more - the only way to collect it automatically is to
import it from some active СH guy’s "history file" who would like to share it,
otherwise - extract it in some way from any existing open-source database
(QRZ,FCC etc.) in the appropriate format, and then somehow convert it to import
into the Logging Program SW log so that it automatically fills in the blanks
for State and CTY for any callsign in your log that matches DB, with missing
State/CTY detail. I guess it could be an XLS or ADIF comparison of 2 logs with
further filling in the missing values in case of a match and the necessary
conversion with import. In all cases, as a Result — you should get your log
with all the State/CITY fields populated as if you were doing it manually
during the QSO or retroactively.

Jim has already offered me his help and I am working on the issue.

Sorry to subscribers for taking your time reading this — but technically it’s
not an off-topic (as a CH-issue) because this could be a useful but missing
feature for DX4WIN even more important that unique callsigns calculator option

You may already know this but just in case, with the main QSO window open, you
click the F3 key a window will open marked CALLSIGN/MGR. This show QSL info for
the call. If the call is a USA/KP4/KP2/KL7/KH6 call the county will be shown in
this window. If you click Update QSO in the bottom of this window it will fill
in the ops first name, his state, county, and grid in the QSO window. When you
set up this window right click on the window then select (tic on) Automatic
update. Hope this helps

County hunting is a noble, if not difficult pursuit. I have worked and
confirmed all 3077 US Counties on both CW and SSB, but have never had time to
submit for the USACA award. Hopefully, I will have time when I retire. I am
within 100 confirmations of 20 meters only. I have over 2000 worked on
digital, but I am not trying to confirm them.

Regarding state QSO parties, if you logged them using a logging program that
can output ADIF to import into DX4WIN, please look at this utility that I wrote:

This will convert the county abbreviations to counties in DX4WIN.

If you still have the state QSO party county abbreviations in your DX4WIN log,
I could try to convert them for you, but it may take time to come up with the
right program to do it. Please contact me off the reflector.

Re: [Dx4win] Counties

2022-02-21 Thread UA3AGW Dmitry Zaslavsky via DX4WIN

Hi friends !

My LIfelong Dream for DX4WIN is — that SW automatically populates empty blanks
with counties ( or at least — new counties) that I didn't manually enter based
on the QSLs or QSOs made in State QSO Parties received which were not entered
by myself manually based on QSLs reveived or QSOs in the County Parties.
Because I woud never find the time to do it using QRZ.com and the Program will
lose a potential and very rare applicant from Russia probably having over 2000
wkd CTYs in the log. Was trying to analyze some of logging CH-tracking SW but
couldn't figure out if they were not only doing the current online work for me,
but also filling in an existing log with CTY values from any database.
For example, a Call History file for a certain contest would do a similar job
only after you enter a callsign manually or clicking on a band-map. But what’s
about already existing log? Is there any Import Feature capable of doing it
exist ?

Thanks a lot in advance for your feedback.

73’s ! Dima, UA3AGW

Sorry. There is no standard naming convention for counties, at least
among hams. There is a FIPS standard which uses St. instead of Saint.
The Radio Amateur Callbook CD also uses St. Unfortunately, both QRZ
and LoTW use Saint.

The County Hunters also use St. which is matched by DX4WIN:

Re: [Dx4win] counties

2021-11-18 Thread Kostas SV1DPI

If you go to File>Awards a window will be open

There you can see for every award which are the QSOs that count for it.

So if you select County tab under Confirmation QSL card and eqsl are
checked by default because only these two count for WAC.

For DXCC only cards and LotW are checked and for WAZ (where all ways
work) qsl, lotw and eqsl are checked.

Hope this helps

Where are they not showing up? I just did a Report | County | Listing
and I see them there.

Note that to be compatible with other award programs, they were
renamed to "First" through "Fourth" in the last country file release.
But that should not have caused any problems. Do you have the latest

I believe the reason is because only paper cards can be used to make claims for
the County award. Unfortunately, LOTW confirmations do not yet count.

You can amend the award settings in DX4WIN to make LOTW confirmations count. I
have done that.

Re: [Dx4win] Counties list

2019-11-20 Thread Kostas SV1DPI

I can not understand well your question.

To submit for WACounties you need to go to Reports. Then in Award box
select County and in Report/Action box select Submission. Select also
only the Mixed in right Award box. As I know, only QSL cards and eqsl
count for Counties Award so I assume that under File>Awards>County you
have chosen under confirmation, qsl and eqsl. So select also if you are
going to submit via qsl cards or via eqsl in Submission Medium. When
your qsos are checked by the award manager, you need to go again to
Reports>County and press on Award flags>Cnty mixed and
Submitted->Checked and change.

You say that you have already submitted qsos. If you have followed the
right procedure that qsos are marked as Checked. If you expand the QSO
window with F5, you can see a C in the first row of the Column County
for everyone of these QSOs. If you want manual to do the procedure, you
can put an S (Submit) in every QSO you want to submit.

To get a list of the submitted QSOs: Either you print (right click) the
list which is produced by dx4win (if you followed the manual procedure,
there is the danger dx4win adds some more QSOs) or do a search (F8) for
the QSOs with the S in the right field and get a list from Logbook window.

Yes, Virginia has many, Carson City, NV is another. You have to check
the USACA rules, you get a small choice of counties you can count it
towards.

In the VA QSO Party, the abbreviations for the independent cities all
end in 'X'.

[Dx4win] Counties Gone - Weird

2002-12-16 Thread Darrel Daley
Hi,

Two desktops and a laptop networked.

On one PC and the laptop the counties show up, but I've lost them on the one
desktop. All other data (as far as I know) is the same on all machines. If I
copy my logfile from a machine with counties to the one without they don't
show.

Pressing F1 with the cursor in the county field on the bad PC brings up
the proper state, but no counties shown. Using F1 on the other machines
shows the counties.
