From what I have read on the Elecraft reflector, people are saying that they
cannot talk up the K2 to full output with Heil mics. I have been using the

Jim and all,
If you ordered the Heil ProSet-K2 that Elecraft is selling (or any other
Heil manufactured product that Elecraft sells), you have no need for
concern. All those microphones are made with elements designed
specifically for the K2.
It is only folks with the Heil products using

Thanks for that info - I should have checked the schematic before I opened
my mouth (well fingers anyway).
The jumper must be removed from the mic header. Even though FUNC is not
used in the K2, the front panel is wired so that it COULD be used (for some
future something).

I know one more K2 in Hungary, we had a QSO. Do you know more Elecraft

Would it be possible to put up a hall of fame (eg list of callsigns that

can be asked if they want to appear on the list.

If you look closely, you'll see that the ribs on the top leave spaces at the
end of the heat sink closest to the front of the K2 for air to flow through.

Thanks Ron -
A couple of people mentioned this so I took an insulated alignment tool and
poked between the fins and sure enough...this is where 90% of the hot air
escapes. (the other 10% enters through the microphone and exits through the

Buck,
No matter how you interpret the figure, the pin closest to the side pane is
the grounded one - and the braid should end up closest to the side panel
too.
You can easily verify which pin is ground with your ohmmeter - the other
side will have a high resistance to ground because of the

*chmod 777 ttyS0*
This changes the device's permissions and allows unprivileged users or

As for Gmfsk itself, it is pretty crude
After su-ing to the root user - you need to change directories to /dev
and then chmod 666 NOT 777 - 777 would give the nodes in the dev directory
execute permission which does not make sense for a device node.
To summarize
su to root
cd /dev
chmod 666 ttyS0*
Hope this helps
