My K2/100 (serial #5885), KSB2, K160RX, KNB2, KDSP2 is up and
running, putting out 100+ watts (if called on to do so) on all bands.
Great fun building, learning while building, and now, using!
Thanks to all on the board who were kind enough to answer my questions.

Tom,
Can you elaborate on the reason for the change? Is it a construction thing
or an operational improvement. In other words, if my K2 is happy should I
be concerned about replacing the RFC's already installed?
thanks

No. Do not change any installed RFC's.
As the note explains, it's quite possible to break the connections inside
the inductor by bending the leads too tightly at right angles to the main
body, especially on the smaller sub-miniature units. One wants to be careful
about bending the leads on the in
The reason given to me a couple of days ago by Elecraft (for L9 in my
KX1, I assume similar applies) was because the "micro" part is no longer
available so the "mini" part has been substituted.

Bernie,
In the past, I have complained about 'weak' audio on my K2 SN 00020, but I
have since modified T7 to the newer turns ratio of 20:7, and I no longer
complain - yes, there is not as much raw audio power as found in some other
transceivers, but the K2 will 'blow your ears off' if the gain is
I did some more audio testing today, and find that
setting AF gain between 12 & 1 o'clk, all is well. For
testing, I listened to WWV on 10MHz, USB, RF gain at
max, pre-amp off. Seems somewhat louder w/AGC off.
Really booms w/Pre-Amp on. 9 o'clk (PreAmp off) seems

Bernie, are you looking for lots of noise from the K2 audio with the antenna
*disconnected*?
Reading your message below, that sounds like it might be the case.
My K2 is fairly quiet with no antenna. I like that the K2 does not have an
excess amount of internally-generated noise.

When you do please make sure you send a set to Elecraft for their photo gallery.
If Android is going to build one as well do a group photo. Didn't see him at
the fest. May have to wait for spring when I bicycle past his house on the
parkway and yell at him to get on his lawn duties :}
Just received an email that N8LP's supplier came thru after all and he'll be
shipping the LP100 kits again in a week or so. Now I don't have to wait
until March, should be here soon. Stand by and wait for me to post the
pics. I'll probably put them on the Ham Radio Deluxe Forums website for all
I'll post pictures when I get it and make a full display of the build.
Unfortunately I talked with N8LP and he's got a shortage of some parts from
the supplier, so it'll be a month or 2 before it shows up on my doorstep. I
guess we'll all have to wait, so Andy (W9NJY) if you're reading this go

EVERYONE WHO BUILDS A NEW ELECRAFT KIT SHOULD READ THIS APPLICATION NOTE!!!
It deals with the fact that Elecraft appears to have bitten the
bullet and substituted heavier-duty (and slightly larger) RFCs for
many of the sub-mini RFCs used in their kits. The end product will be
fewer damaged RFC

K2 #5956 is sitting on my bench awaiting inventory and a few small tools

Hello all,
This past weekend I tried out my new "pimped-out" KX1.
My newest KX1 trick is to take out the 1.5v AA batteries and install
six 3.7v AA-size batteries. I just rewired the battery holders in
parallel and installed a 5A protection board so the Li-ion batteries
charge properly and are pro

microHam CW keyer for use with the K2.
