Good Evening,
Chilly once again. Rainy then sunny but still cold to chilly. Luckily I
can heat one room with my computer :) I am holding off with lighting a fire
but there is still a pile of wood ready if I lose my resolve. When I travel
into town the weather has been milder but still not
Merv,
Interesting, I have used the shift and on my unit the FC* is at 150. I find
moving it down to 90 helps (toning down the higher pitches noise) as well as
playing with the bandwidth (trial and re-trial). Noise seems to be about S3

Its not difficult to understand its just annoying. Essentially we're
all in agreement that the radio can do it. I think that the firmware in
the rig could actually make this happen 100% automatically. The only
difference is that when operating cross band split you're going to have

I am some what confused with the issue. I also had assumed,
that if when I installed the 2nd receiver that split operation was
possible. To say it takes a 2nd transmitters is not true. It has
to be a switching issue in what I call software, firmware by others.

No, firmware can not change the signal flow in the K3 hardware
that routes the transmit signal through circuitry (including
roofing/bandpass filters) commo
The KDSP2 has been sold. Thanks to those who replied.

Ed,
Propagation is a two way street, although there have been a few (very
few) exceptions that I have heard.
The difference is likely to be the antennas at each end - if you have a
poor antenna and the other end of the QSO have good antennas, they will
hear you quite well but you may have troub
Just run the Transmitter Gain calibration for 5W and 50W using the K3
utility program, or manually as set forth in the Owner's Manual, p49.
This solves most TXG problems.

Have you run the TX Gain calibration for high power since you installed
the KPA3? I recommend running it through the K3 utility. You need to
run it on all bands. How to do so is outlined in the manual or made
very easy by using the configuration program.

Whats to say that you couldn't enter into cross band split and then when
ever you TX the rig quickly presses A/B then TXes then presses A/B again
but simply displays like its TXing w/o moving freqs around and what not.
You'd probably not be able to do QSK that way but it would add a really

But is there a real reason why its not possible? Or are we simply a
firmware update away from being able to do what the 9000 can? It
wouldn't be optimal but heck even if N1MM would simply operate A/B then
TX then operate A/B again in quick succession and log it under the VFO B
slot it could be a
I just installed the KPA3 and am experiencing ERR TXG in several of the
lower bands. The Owners manual refers you to the Service Manual.
Can't seem to find anything on the Elecraft site about a Service Manual.
Any assistance appreciated.

Mike,
It comes connected to the AUX RF BNC jack. You also get the TMP cable
to connect to the KAT3, but it is not installed.

Do you know if the factory-assembled K3 with the optional KAT3 and KRX3
subreceiver comes configured with the subreceiver antenna connected to the
KAT3 or the AUX RF antenna connector?
I just ordered one and was reading the manuals and I guess it can be
connected to either one.
Thanks.
Mike
Brett's question raises another, perhaps less difficult, one in my mind. If
using the KRX3, can the DVR record the sub-receiver audio? I don't see any
way to select a source other than the primary receive channel. This is
neither a big deal, nor a request, just that inquiring minds want to know
!
The frequency is 3630 KHz plus or minus the QRM.
The start time is 0900 hours local (0800 UTC) in an effort
to try and beat the deteriorating summer band conditions.

Adding the "/" at the end of the URL works well, Grant. Thank you.
Always downloaded them directly before but will adopt this approach.

Looks like it was there... I didn't think I'd remembered it being
there... If anyone else is interested it appears in the 3.03 release
from 3-17-2009. The link to the release notes is currently here:

G'morning Brett:
Check the release notes for what you are asking. I think it was about
v3.0.4 that added this feature.

Is there a way to make the K3 forget all of the prior antenna tuner
