transmit/receive switching long before CB existed (1958). The term is
derived from the use of telegraph keys with the first radio
transmitters. Pre-1958 radio history books often include several quotes
in which radiotelegraphy operators
Way back in the early 1950's, I learned that to key meant to close the
(telegraph) key to activate the transmitter. Keying a rig is what one did
when sending CW.
That was long, long before the CB craze. Indeed, 11 meters was still a Ham
band then.

from other professionals and vendors, and I personally use, the term key when
refering to the action of putting a transmitter in transmit mode. Quite an
impact CB radio is making in the telcommunication world!

I am running into some trouble with the K3 after playing around
with the unit (macro, settigs etc.)
After a while I recognized, that the K3 does not transmit - no output in CW nor
in SSB - even PTT does work.
Tuning with the TUNE-Button works and give the adjusted output

the TX isn't blinking. Have done further test and recognized, that if I chooes
the FM-Mode - the Power Output was ok. Seems be the K3 does not work in CW and
SSB so far.
As well the TUNE-button is working as well.

going through the transceiver, the rear bottom panel of this K3 does not seat
flush but rides high on the RF board's standoffs causing the cover to bow, and
may be flexing the RF board as well. Any ideas?

Interesting, although the KX3's internal speaker was never intended
for hamfest-level audio :)
I use a pair of external amplified speakers called Chill Pills with
my KX3. These collapse to a cylinder about 1.5 x 4 for transport,
have internal batteries rechargeable from a USB port,
I just bought a 4-conductor 3.5mm plug from Mouser. Part number 171-7435-EX.
It is a Kobiconn and seems well made. Price is $2.60 and they have over 8,600

using Config: (My experience) Also, I ran into the “VOX” not
KX-3 s/n 0036 received! Can't wait to get it on the air. Really slick little

if both PTT_IN center and ACC jack pin 4 show the voltage to ground for
PTT. See if the voltage on one drops if the other is grounded.
I have completed the KAT2 tuner and adjusted C55 but could only get it down to
between 010 - 009. I did notice that when I got a reading to 010 any further
adjustment would result in a large jump. I would then have to take time and
fine adjust C55 to 010 and maybe hit 009. I continued on with
