I got in late on this thread but are you refuting to the PR6 preamp? That was connected and not letting the K3 shut down because of it being connected to the aux 12v connector on the rear of the K3? If this was what was happening I just installed a PR6 on an ser # 5299 and had no problems I did

Daniel, The inductance of the RF Choke toroids measured at DC or low frequencies may not agree with the published inductane which is measured at a higher frequency. Those RF Chokes are not critical, they just need to block the RF flow and the bypass capacitor takes care of the rest. The

Jack, Predicting the particular failure that you will experience is a pure SWAG. However, the most common failure point for a basic K2 is the headphone jack. If you have a KPA100, then the wattmeter diodes (1N5711) is the most common failure point - that can be minimized by connecting the K2

Knut, FWIW I found that the isolation between the ANT 1 and 2 ports of my KAT100 on 15m was only approx 40db. To increase the isolation between ports, not only did I have to add a relay to ground the port not in use, but I also had to replace the relay-to-port unshielded wiring with coax.
