I can't answer your question without measuring your particular KX3, and about the only thing I can do is quote the specification of +/- 1 ppm over 0 to 50 degC. You can better that with the Temp Compensation. I don't think doing the Temperature Compensation will make a 'hash' of anything,

The T/R problem has occurred with different antennas. However, there are several interconnecting coax cables in the line, and these do not change. All are soldered, but they are quite old, and home-constructed. I suspect that if it is a cable problem, it is in the shack. I will pursue this

Slava, Yes, you should be able to use the front mic jack. Set the SignaLink for mic level output rather than line level (see the SignaLink documentation). Turn bias off for the front mic. It is feasible that you could feed the SignaLink into your audio rack, but it should not run through

Your mileage may very but I use the T18-BR02 tip for both SMD and through hole soldering. I'd planned on buying more tips but frankly I'm 100% satisfied with this tip. I should probably get a larger tip though for soldering connectors and such.
