I’m doing exactly the same thing except my win 7 desktop still running win 7.
I’ve only got ham applications on it and have no timing issues with cw. I did
buy a MORTTY to offload the cw timing, but haven’t set it up yet.

Hi Brian,
I use a Winkeyer between the radio and the PC and that takes care of the
timing issue. Works great!

I might add that the computer is an old Win7 desktop running Win10. Definitely
not a powerhouse. :-)

I have been using a USB-to-serial converter cable for connection between the K3
and computer running N1MM+. I use DTR keying on the K3 with VOX and QSK on.
This leaves the K3 internal keyer and paddle free to use at a different speed
for fills, etc.
I have noticed the CW timing from the
The K3S has a RS232 and USB port, I believe the original K3 only came with a
RS232 port. Definitely using a Winkeyer is great for sending CW!

What is the preferred method of keying and rig control when using a K3 with

Cold solder joint perhaps?
If you tap the board does the signal follow the taps? E.G. it increases in
level briefly then returns to it's previous level?
If you warm the board slightly with a hair dryer
I have a K3 that has got just a little bit deaf.
It´s like this, on 28 MHz it´s about 17 dB down,
on 24 MHz 13 dB, on 21 MHz 7 dB. 14 MHz and down
just about nothing.
Guess it still can be D25. I will swap it with my
second K3 and start to repair it tomorrow.
