I would say the main disadvantage is that you need a suitably positioned
GPS antenna. I understand that the GPS satellites use Caesium resonators
so in theory could be more accurate than Rubidium.
Another alternative is an off-air frequency standard controlled by the

My own K144XV is unusable because of the amount of frequency drift I am
getting. If I do use my K144XV I find that I am repeatedly having to
apologise for Elecraft. It drifts almost 100Hz for every 5 minutes I

with it when trying to set the Repeater Offset on 50 MHz (6 meters) to

Nothing to worry about, Ian. The KAT3 automatically reduces the power
while tuning up to protect the relays. But you do need to set the power
control to over about 5W or else you will get a Lo P warning, which
indicates that the power is set too low for the KAT3 to perform the

to zero, you are unable to hear what is being retransmitted.
Consequently, it is easy to retransmit the wrong stuff, including
callsigns, which would be against licence conditions.

R91 from 100 ohms to 22 ohms. I can't find the mod sheet that describes
this change so do not know the reason for the change.
However, although the latest schematics (Sht 3 of 4) shows an asterisk
