I had a feeling that discerning call signs in pileups was a bit worse in

batteryspace.com has a 20A LiFEPO3 battery for $120 and weighs 7lb, half of
what lead acid does. Good for a couple of hrs at 100W level. This battery
charges real fast.

1.4 KW and IMD3>-28db.
The dissipation is about 370W at 700W level and 350 at the 1.4 KW level.
These numbers do not include losses in transformers and filters.

e tuner input. Find that
value that minimizes SWR on 6m. Usually it is 10-30pF. The cap needs to be
big enough to handle power but not too big since the voltages are pretty low
at low SWR (< 200V at 500W level).

I had verticals on concrete, roof shingle and metal roofs. Always radials
lying on top. The metal roof was the best by far.
One way to find out how much the roof is affecting the performance of a beam
is to look at SWR changes as the antenna is rotating.

alent to two elevated
radials and coil. There is an anecdotal information that this vertical works
much better than a vertical with many short ground radials.

Thin wires do wonders.
A while ago the 160m SSB contest fell when I was at a conference on a 300 ft
"mountain" in FL. Two #30 wires were strung from a window of a house on to
25ft trees 150ft away. K2/AT matched it well and some 10 QSOs were made in
1 hr.

I think you need Microham Station Master. It will do need all you want + much
more. IMHO K3 already does enough.

Probably 2.4AH battery that weighs 5 oz and costs $30 would be enough.

I attached KX3 to TT Centurion. When in BK mode, KX3 indicates high SWR
momentarily. Seems the delay is < 8 ms. Any way to change it aside from not
using BK?
Not really high priority issue. Top priority for me would be improving the
speech processor to at least the level of K2.

There are counterfeit Energizers and Duracell. I bought some in legitimate

I guess that that noise VFO in K3 makes selective VRF or microtune features
of Yaesu not needed. Also shutting of input at high RF level prevents
burning of RX input. Smart features that pay with contesters' loyalty.
